Fifty Shapeless Shades

Sweater – Kensie
Dress – Many Belles Down
Shoes – Ruche

A loose and soft light sweater is such a cozy thing to wear in the chilly mornings of summer. The shapeless aspect of this one reflects my mind and attitude most mornings like these…shapeless, but also free and open.  Maybe that’s why I’m drawn to such pieces. It’s like literary pathetic fallacy.
On that note, started reading Fifty Shades of Grey -that book everyone’s been raving about.  Read 50 pages and hated it.  Badly written, no plot, and the love scenes are not at all erotic it’s so poorly written.  And enough with the “inner goddess” crap!  You want Mommy porn?  Let me sleep in, hire me a nanny, make me coffee and breakfast and tell me that the housekeeper is just delayed because s/he’s picking up my trainer on the way.  Now that’s Mommy porn!

Wild Women Do What You Think Of Never

Jacket – Old Navy
Shirt – hand me down
Skirt – Mink Pink
Shoes – Payless
Necklace & Thumb Ring – F21
Safari Ring – Threadsence
I’m getting a bit more adventurous sartorially. *she says a little smugly* I’m actually a little proud of myself.  I used to never, ever wear leopard print – ever.  But then this vest was too appealing to resist and, well, once the barrier has been broken I think there’s no turning back, because then this skirt here became to appealing to resist…and there’s a tank top in a similar pattern that has me drooling.  So either I’m getting more adventurous, or I’m getting in touch with my inner wild cat.
Either one works, really.
p.s. While I was writing this post the song “Wild Women Do” from Pretty Woman was playing in my head.  Take from that what you will.

My Own Personal Stylist

Top – H&M
Shorts – Gap
Necklace & Hat – F21
Shoes – Winners
Lately, baby girl has developed not only a very particular sense of style – she always has an opinion on which hat and shoes she wants to wear which day – but she’s also developed a taste for her Mama’s clothing and accessories.  She runs around the house in my vest and bra *interesting combo wouldn’t you say?* and dictates who wears what *as evidenced above*.  I can only imagine what she’s going to do to Andrew!  Figures that I would end up having a stylist in the house.  Only I think she cares more about her outfit then mine…so a bit of a selfish stylist then?
I’ve created a monster.
Or as my Mama would say, “Karma.”

Best Laid Plans

Hat – F21
Sunnies – honestly, don’t remember
Dress – bought in Barcelona, Spain.
Flip Flops – Abercrombie & Fitch
Wednesday I had all these plans.  Big plans.  Grandiose plans.  I was going to accomplish great things.  Move countries, topple mountains.  But what did I do?  I went to the audition I had to go to, and then came home and took a two and a half hour nap before going to host the show.  Two and a half hour nap….I just needed to say that again.  *courtesy of the husband who watched baby girl for half of that*
Both the countries and the mountains have nothin’ to worry about.

p.s.  I really have to remember to take the sunnies off for pictures…two days in a row I’ve had both them and the hat on for shots.  Sheesh!

When you’re freelance there’s no such thing as holiday weekends.  Okay, that’s not true there are…and we here at Chez Haughton are often excited about them because it usually means work and sometimes means time and a half!  For example:  Saturday I did a half day shoot for a web series, and Monday evening I hosted Movieola.  Andrew?  Well, he worked on Sunday and then worked on a video game project on Monday (he does the music).  So yeah, that was our long weekend.  But don’t feel sorry for us…it means that most weekdays we get to go out and enjoy the sunshine while others sit in their cubicle.  Sorry, hope you don’t hate me too much right now.

True Story:
Don’t try to talk, tickle, or touch baby girl when she wakes up from her nap.
She’ll cry, punch, and run…unless you’re Mama that is.
Her uncle learned that yesterday.

Sharing.  Sharing something here.  We all struggle with something when it comes to our appearance right?  Double chins, bellies, thicker then desired thighs – everyone’s got something.  So here’s mine – I struggle with adult acne.  Who the heck knew that at my semi-advanced age I would have to be dealing with the same crap a 15 year old, hormone raging, teenager does?  Certainly not me.  What’s more, is that I work in an industry that is so appearance centric I can’t not think about it all the time!  Sitting in an audition room surrounded by beautiful women with clear skin, I pray that my acting skills will get me through and that the MUA on set will be talented.  True, I could do something like take the pill to help clear it up, but I don’t like to put those hormones in my body, and yes make-up – covers it up, but the fact is I know it’s there and I don’t want to have to wear make-up.

And it eats away at my self-confidence.  I know it shouldn’t.  I’m more than my skin, I know I shouldn’t complain because there are people in the world who are truly suffering,  I have more worth….etc. etc. ….I know all this.   Tears are spilt, and it sucks.  Thank you.  Carry on.  I promise I won’t sulk too much. Like I said, we all have something, right?  Have a great Monday!

I’m Baaaaack

I’ve been so MIA on social media and this blog for the last week because my computer’s been in the shop – but now it’s back….for now. *cue ominous music*  It’s not doing too well, the poor babe.   I’m not sure how long it’ll be before it totally craps out on me and dies a permanent death.  Thank goodness I had the sense to back up everything before it went in, because they had to replace my hard drive!  Anyway, I’m back for now…do a little dance, sing a little song.  I hope you lovely folks had a wonderful Mother’s day.  I certainly did.  I shot Posthuman today and then came home to a lovely meal and enjoyed my Mother’s Day present:  season one of Spartacus!  I love me some raunchy violent Romans!
p.s.  I haven’t yet chosen the winner of the SuperHero contest because of all this craziness and shooting.  But it’s on my to-do for the next two days.  Sorry!
True Story:
So remember Baby Girl’s issues with the ‘r’ in “fork?”
Well, now the ‘f’ has become a ‘c.’
If you’re following, her “fork”  now sound like *spelled phonetically* “k-o-k.”
Endless laughter at the dinner table!

Happy Shoes

Top – Ruche
Skirt & Necklace – F21
Shoes – Winners

Guess what?  I wore this to a shoot. *sneak peek of that here*   Yup, this is the kind of thing you’ll see me wearing when I’m taking your picture.  Last year, I nabbed these fun sandals from the clearance section of Winners, and have been loving them ever since.  We met, we wooed, and now we’re happily committed to one another.  I wear them often and treat them well, and they never give my aches or blisters.  It’s a happy relationship all around.
True Story:
Baby girl has learned to say, “Fork.”
Though when she says it, it sounds dangerously like something else…

Random Sundays: Not Now

Top & Jeans – Gap
Scarf – c/o Imagine Gnats

After the crazy busy week I’ve had, I’m glad to be able to relax all morning and afternoon today.  True, there’s a rehearsal this evening, but that’s this evening….not now.

She’s Funny That One!

Earrings – somewhere in Europe
Necklace & Bangles – F21
Sweater & Sunnies – thrifted
Top – H&M
Skirt – Ruche
Boots – Threadsence
It’s still cold outside, and the sun rarely makes an appearance, but I’m certainly energetic and productive and alive lately.  Not only have all my sites been spruced up or re-designed *check out the acting and the photo sites* but I’ve been running from audition, to callback, to wardrobe fitting, to shoot for weeks now.  It’s a wonderful feeling to be so busy and in demand you have to start getting people to re-schedule in order to accommodate a meeting. I need to share this joy with you!
On top of that I’ve been enjoying the company of my baby girl to no end.  She’s funny that one!  I thought I would really miss the baby stage, and though I do miss it, I love this stage much, much more.  The one where she’s company, has thoughts to share, and loves to play jokes on us is so entertaining.  It’s like hanging out with a friend now, albeit a poopy and demanding one.
True Story:
Walking to playgroup one day we stop and see a snail in the middle of the sidewalk.
She bends down and pets it like she pets Drake the Dog.
When it’s time to go, she waves goodbye to the snail and continues walking.
Then five steps later, she turns back to the snail and waves again.
She does this every five steps until the snail is nothing but a tiny speck.
Though he doesn’t have good ears or eyesight, I’m pretty sure he felt a lot of love sent his way that day.
