She’s Funny That One!

It’s still cold outside, and the sun rarely makes an appearance, but I’m certainly energetic and productive and alive lately.  Not only have all my sites been spruced up or re-designed *check out the acting and the photo sites* but I’ve been running from audition, to callback, to wardrobe fitting, to shoot for weeks now.  It’s a wonderful feeling to be so busy and in demand you have to start getting people to re-schedule in order to accommodate a meeting. I need to share this joy with you!
On top of that I’ve been enjoying the company of my baby girl to no end.  She’s funny that one!  I thought I would really miss the baby stage, and though I do miss it, I love this stage much, much more.  The one where she’s company, has thoughts to share, and loves to play jokes on us is so entertaining.  It’s like hanging out with a friend now, albeit a poopy and demanding one.
True Story:
Walking to playgroup one day we stop and see a snail in the middle of the sidewalk.
She bends down and pets it like she pets Drake the Dog.
When it’s time to go, she waves goodbye to the snail and continues walking.
Then five steps later, she turns back to the snail and waves again.
She does this every five steps until the snail is nothing but a tiny speck.
Though he doesn’t have good ears or eyesight, I’m pretty sure he felt a lot of love sent his way that day.

I have a few pet peeves.  One being the inappropriate use of the colon and the semi-colon.  They’re not just one half of an emoticon people! But I also have this personal clothing pet peeve.  I won’t wear one label, or store, head to toe.  I can’t do it.  Something inside me rebels at the very notion. Even if the items are from different labels, but are from the same store, I can’t wear them together in one outfit.   Maybe it’s a silly notion of non-conformity and by wearing one store/label head to toe I’m somehow relinquishing my creativity.  I really don’t know why that is, but it is.  Do you have any weird quirks like that?

Chez Haughton

No Shoes!
We’ve had a few sleepless nights at Chez Haughton.  The little one is sick.  She’s so stuffed up that she has to breathe through her mouth and therefore can’t self-soothe by sucking her thumb.  This means that she needs to sleep with me in order to be comforted back to sleep.  So, Andrew’s on the futon in her room, while me, her, and the dog try to get some rest in our room.
Only the dog is any rest.
But smelling her and cuddling in close all night is a rare treasure that almost makes up for the stolen sleep.
In related news, Chez Haughton is now serving coffee with every breakfast.

Tonight’s companion is Senor Pinot Grigio and two episodes of Community.  We’re old friends, Community, not Senor Grigio to be clear. Senor Grigio and I are acquaintances.   Not often together, but we like a light hearted chat from time to time.  Tonight we’re discussing thoughts long forgotten and how to banish them at unwanted times…that, and how I can get the perfect Britta curl. I can’t ever get it quite right.   Gillian Jacobs, what is your secret?
p.s. Andrew’s in Texas and I really want him to get me some cowboy boots – size 6.5/7 if you’re wondering. It’s a bit of a fantasy.

Do you watch The Walking Dead?  Have you
seen the season finale?  It kicked butt!  I saw it late because I’ve
been busy, but here’s a thought.  In the show they’ve discovered that
they are all infected and that when they die – no matter how they die –
they all come back as zombies.  You don’t have to be bitten to turn into
a zombie.  Also, one of the main characters is pregnant.

So here’s where my train of thought goes:
If
she miscarries in her third trimester, does her baby turn into a
zombie?  Does it claw it’s way out like that thing in Alien?  ‘Cause
though it would be really sad, it would also be kind of really cool.

Yeah, I know.
If you think that’s bad, imagine how I feel.  I have to be around myself all the time!

We’re working on trying to reclaim the yard from the weeds and clovers that the former owners let run wild.  Every year we win one more battle.  This year I dug out a lot of the monster weeds that threatened to invade our yard last summer.  I’m hoping that if I’m vigilant they will be slowly snuffed out.  Soldiers! Shovels at the ready!

Hey, Nice Undies

Cardi – Gap
Top & Socks – F21

Necklace – gift from Mama’s Nest Designs
I had a Marilyn moment without trying to.  Walking home late at night in this skirt the wind was so strong that it completely blew my skirt up in the air.  No one saw though because, as I said, it was late at night.  I was relieved that no one saw it because I would’ve been so embarrassed, but also a little disappointed.  I was having a great leg day and wearing really nice undies, so if someone had to see some time that was the day.  You know it’s going to happen again when I’m wearing grannies and haven’t shaved.  You just know it will!
Remember how this skirt was completely destroyed on the very first day I got it?  Well, thanks to my talented Mother-In-Law it’s been resurrected from the dead. *I may or may not have been watching several episodes of The Walking Dead*  She took some material from the inside of the waist, and using webbing and other magical feats of sewing fixed it right up.  If you look closely you can tell, but when i put it on even knowing where the hole had been it still took me a few second to find it.  So yay!

p.s. I finished editing a recent shoot and posted a few choice pics here.  I’d love for you to check them out!

Andrew and I watched the Modern Family episode where the ladies of the house get their cycles synchronized and Andrew turns to me, “I’m scared for when that happens.”
I don’t blame him.

Yesterday I had a really rough day,  I mean really rough.  I won’t go into the details because that’s not the pertinent part, but let’s just say I was not a happy camper.  Having money set aside for just such days, I tweeted that I needed one of my favorite stores to have a flash sale so I can partake of some retail therapy.  I didn’t really expect a response, you know?  Lo and behold, Lauren from Emerging Thoughts tweets and facebooks with a one hour flash sale in my honor.  I was touched!  *I also picked up a gorgeous Dear Creatures dress I was hoping to get*

We’re in the middle of Blog Positivity week and I can’t express how much I appreciate the relationships I’ve formed with some amazing people online.   Like Lauren from Emerging Thoughts.  She’s a wonderful lady with a great eye for curating her boutique, and a great personality all around.  I’ve never met her in person, only online.  Through blogs and social media,  I’ve made connections with bloggers, retailers and just great people all around.

I’d like to thank you all.

True Story:
Baby has grasped the full extent and meaning of the word ‘No’, or ‘neoo’ as she says it.
*accompanied by the obligatory head shake*
Here’s a recent conversation.
“Do you want to eat dinner?”
“Neoo”
“Okay, well Mama’s going to eat dinner.”
“Neoo”
“Do you want to go take a bath?”
“Neoo”
“Well, Mama has to go to the bathroom”
“Neoo!”
“No?”
“Neoo.”

I Need To Get This Out Of My System

Tights, Chain Necklace, & Socks – F21

Okay so pardon me while I dwell on something that isn’t really all that important.

See this skirt?  It arrived that morning and I immediately wore it even though it was wrinkled.  I was totally in love with it.  Then later that night I was steaming it and suddenly about halfway through the steaming process it melted a 5 inch hole right into it!  I was so completely bummed, I didn’t know what to do with myself!  I double checked the tag and it said nothing about iron low or anything like that – just hand wash cold, lay flat to dry’ – and I don’t have the fabric expertise to know how an item should be treated just by looking at it.  I’m just a dumb bum who screwed up. So that’s the story of how I have lost my new favorite skirt on the very first day I got it.  Yup, I’m really sad.

So if you get it, or you’ve got it, learn from me.  Iron or steam on super low with a cloth between the iron and the fabric.  Wish I’d known that before.

*yes, I know there are real problems in the world, even in my life, so I do realize how self-indulgent this being bummed about a skirt is. Hence the first line disclaimer.   That’s why I’m writing this post, getting it out of my system and moving on…or trying to*

Saturday Smiles: Ups And Downs

Can you tell I was very impressed with Husband’s witty banter?

Shirt – Esprit
Tank – Smart Set
Skirt – Zara
Booties – Ruche
Necklace – Mama’s Nest Designs
It’s been such an interesting week – ups, downs, and everything in between. Also, just a disclaimer, this outfit looked amazing in my head, not so much in the pictures when I saw them.  Oh well, can’t win ’em all!

Here’s what I’m thankful for:

1. The amazing necklace above from Mama’s Nest Designs. It’s super cute and it has a pearl on it for Baby’s birth month.  She loves it too.  We spent lots of time cuddling on the couch with her touching and playing with it.
2. I came across a site where a blogger made a list of her favorite fashion/style blogs and I was so honored and amazed to find myself on that list!  Along with Kendi Everyday and Atlantic Pacific. Super cool!  Thanks!!
3.  My healthy Baby girl – so many parents struggling with their child’s ailments makes me thankful that mine is just precocious, talkative, and active!

True Story:
We went grocery shopping with Baby and she ran around selecting things that we had to buy.
Here’s her shopping list:
Crackers, Sausage, and a Red Pepper.
