Office Days

Sweater- hand me down  //  Top – Joe Fresh  //  Skirt – Ruche altered by me  //  Tights – HUE  //  Boots – Feet First  //  Bag – Ruche  //  Necklace – c/o Scarlet Samples

I’m working in an office part time now, so you may see a bit more office wear from me.  But here’s the caveat, it’s office wear from me; so, no stodgy blazers and cardigan sets.  I like how office wear has become loosened and become more creative.  Yes, with 20 minutes to get ready I put together this fun office appropriate number.  I loved that I was the only one in the elevator wearing color and red no less!  It made me smile, and there’s no better way to start your day than with a big grin.

I’m Bringin’ Color Back

Skirt- Ruche originally but altered by me  //  Cardi – hand me down  //  Top –  Lucy Love from Trixie in Toronto
//  Tights, belt, and necklace – F21  //  Boots – Locale.
I’m really trying hard not to let the dreary winter drag me down.  So I put on my bright tights and stripey skirt and decided to try to bring the color and dresses in.  It worked, until Baby Girl in her stroller started crying, “No pictures!  It’s cold!”  My sentiments exactly.
Oh and I bought this skirt on a super crazy blowout sale on Ruche last year.  I wore it a few times, but essentially found that it was a little too long for my tastes for such a fun skirt.  So I upped the hem, and now I see this as being quite the staple in my Spring wardrobe.  *If only Spring would hurry its buttocks and get here already!*

Vino For The Holidays

Top – Hand me down  //  Skirt –  Moon Collection   //  Tights – HUE
Boots – Feet First  //  Bow – Ruche  //  Earrings – gift
Everyone loves the holidays, so I know I’m going to get myself stoned here by saying that really I could do without it all.  It’s stressful, it’s always hectic, and frankly it always gets me down.  Maybe it’s because not only is it Christmas and New Years, but it’s also my birthday and that starts this whole downward spiral of self examination.  For someone who’s very hard on themselves, and also very ambitious, that means a lot of vino as I always wish I was further ahead in a lot of areas in life.  I know I’m not the only one here.  The good thing is that it usually comes with a kick in the rear end to get things going.
This year I will get better at not being so tough on myself, and at enjoying and appreciating that which I do have.
*snort*
Pass the vino.

Embracing The Chaos

Skirt – Lovenell  //  Sweater – F21  //  Tights – HUE
Boots – Feet First  //  Necklace – Lustre  //  Scarf – street stand
I’ve given up I think.  The photobombing appears to be here to stay.  Even worse, every time I pull out the camera she finds a spot right in front, turns to me, and says “cheese!”  She thinks it’s all about her.  I guess that’s my fault, what with following her around with a camera since minute one.  So I’ve decided to embrace it rather than fight it.  This is my life, this is my fashion.
I guess it makes sense.  I’m not one of those immaculately put together fashionistas you see on the internet everywhere.  I don’t have every single hair perfectly in place, and I often do have toddler food on my clothes.  So it makes sense that my pictures are just as messy as me.

Bend But Not Break

Sweater – Pink Martini  //  Skirt – Ark&Co  // Boots – Feet First  //  Tights – Hue
Bracelets & Necklace – F21

Though breezy, flowy skirts and pastels are reminiscent of Spring and the bright sunshine of Summer, I can’t seem to hide them away in a dark corner of my closet when the temperatures drop.  The soft pale material feels so vulnerable in the bitter cold wind, but it does not break, so perhaps there’s a hidden strength in it somewhere.
Or maybe I just like to wax poetic about something that is really a simple sartorial choice.
It’s probably that.
Yes, definitely.

A Dream In A Costume

 Sweater – hand me down  //  Skirt – The Spotted Moth  // Hat & Necklace – Ruche  //  Tights – F21

Socks – Hue  //  Shoes – Payless
Sometimes getting dressed is like putting on a costume.  It’s a chance to become a different character for the day.  This day I dreamt I was a Parisian woman on a brief respite from studying something profound to a nearby cafe.   Full of whimsy and charm.
Even though in reality I was corralling a toddler and a dog at the local playground.  So really I probably should’ve been wearing a cowboy hat and carrying a rope. But dream we must.

On Pencil Skirts.

Top – hand me down  //  Skirt – C’est Moi  //  Tights – F21  //  Boots – Feet First  //  Coat – Jacob  //  Necklace – Ruche

Pencil skirts are gorgeous.  They’re sleek, and sexy, while being totally professional and ladylike.
And I never wear them.

I never wear them because they restrict my movement, and I can’t jump or climb on things.  I never wear them because I have to take tiny little steps in them, instead of sprinting for the bus or the metro doors.  I never wear them because it’s hard to bend and sit, and I can’t grab five minutes of extra playtime with Baby Girl before I leave.

I guess I won’t achieve the sexy, sleek, sophisticated, and enviable look of a pencil skirt.  Oh well.  On the other hand, I get the shot, catch the bus, and play with Baby Girl.

Life’s a trade-off.

*Then again, there might be a day in the future that I try. Never say never, right?*

Lil S@*t

Sweater – hand me down  //  Belt – F21  //  Skirt – ModCloth  //  Boots – Feet First
It’s starting to be that time of the year.  The one where in the pictures it’s sunny and gorgeous, but the reality is that I rush outside, set up the photo, whip off my coat and pretend to feel just splendid for outfit photos while I shake and freeze.  All with the neighbors watching and heckling.

Yes heckling.
Can’t it be spring already?

True Story:
Drake the dog jumped up and stole a piece of toast left on the ottoman.
I immediately responded, by saying, “Oh you little S@*t!”
From the kitchen I hear a little Baby Girl voice say, “Lil s@*t!”
Guess I really need to watch my mouth.

Fall Upcycled Pieces

Necklace – c/o Imprintalish
Top – H&M
Jacket – Gap
Skirt – Skies Are Blue
Tights – F21
Boots – Threadsence

Fall is fully in bloom here.  Yes, I say that sarcastically since, what it means is that nothing is actually blooming, but instead dying.  I’m not a big fan of Fall.  I love the first week because I pull out my sweaters and boots, and then I’m over it.  I know it means we’re in for several long months of winter and cold, and really, I could totally pass on that!

But it does mean the return of darker colors and richer tones.  That I really enjoy.  So when I recently got the opportunity to style a piece from Imprintalish, I naturally navigated toward this necklace in a darker hue.  It also seemed perfect because I immediately thought of a white shirt.  Then I just had to build the rest of the outfit around those two pieces.  And this was the result.

I loved the idea of pairing this very cool upcycled necklace with a white top because it’s a great way to make something office-like *the white shirt* look unique and chic. I can see someone in an business atmosphere pairing this with a blazer and trousers, or a cute pencil skirt and being professional, yet totally one of a kind.

That’s what’s so great about Imprintalish.  All the styles are neutral enough to be worn in so many different venues and occasions, but unique enough that people will be asking, “Where’d you get that?”  I’m thinking I may have to get this piece next.  You? What would you get?
