The Death Of A Computer And Other News…

Cami – F21; Shirt – Smart Set; Jeans – Guess; Sandals – Zellers.

Guess what???  My computer’s hard drive completely died!  At least it’s under full warranty.  But still. Though to be honest that computer has been nothing but grief and I’d be happy to replace it if I could.  Regardless, it’s thrown me off my equilibrium a bit.

You want to know the thing that hurts the most?  I backed up a month ago, but that means I’ve lost the pics from Baby’s first birthday.  *sad face*  I could recover it for hundreds of dollars, but frankly I don’t have that lying around.  There is one slim chance – I’m not going to say because I don’t want to jinx myself – but otherwise the shots I took are gone.  Close your eyes real hard and say a few little prayers for me please!

On a happier note, I thought I’d share with you the lovely things that Baby is doing:
She has learned to go down the stairs now – crawling down in the same position she went up, just backwards.  And she loves when I help her use the spoon to feed herself yogurt.  Such a cutie!  Oh, and she loves standing at the screen door and looking at all the cars go by.  But all that is still nothing compared to the joy of flinging the dog’s food around!

And just to let you know, I’m having a BBQ to celebrate my Mom’s umpteenth annual “30th” birthday, and then tomorrow I’m on set all day for a shoot!  It’s going to be sooooooo cool!  But that also means there will be no post tomorrow!  Sorry.  I’ll see you lovely folks on Sunday though.  Happy weekend!

Underwear Undercover

At the Movieola Studio in between segments.

Hat – F21; Shirt and belt – thrifted; Skirt – Spotted Moth; Shoes – Payless.

It’s summer and everyone is shedding layers.  But the warm months have exposed a terrible thing I’ve been witnessing on the street – bad underwear choices.  Outfits are 360 degrees.  The world sees us all the way around and not just from the front or side.  And not every outfit goes with with multicolored tight undies.  I’ve seen the underwear abuse everywhere lately.  The reason it gets me so adamant is that it ruins an otherwise cute outfit.  Further, it makes the offending lady look a little trashy, unkempt, and makes her figure look less beautiful.

Consider this, a young mom was walking down the street ahead of me pushing a stroller. She had a cute messy ponytail going for her, a figure that, though not sports illustrated material *but really who is, am I right??* , was quite attractive, and she had a simple and sweet maxi dress on. *which I love for new moms in the summer*  So she could’ve had everything going for her.  Except.  She had tight orange underwear on.  How do I know it was orange?  Because it showed through her dress.  How did I know it was tight?  Because it was cutting into her bum, legs, and hips.  So the whole cute image, and the long lean line of the dress, was ruined.  It’s the details that separate chic from not.  And it’s important to consider your outfit from the top layer to the bottom.

If you’re a mom, don’t wear a black bra with a white top. *this is a trend I see on teenage girls today, and in my opinion it just looks cheap on anyone*  Don’t wear tight orange underwear with a slightly sheer jersey dress.  Soft thongs are great, as are seamless panties.  And the mantra is nude, nude, nude!  If you’re wearing an outfit like the one I am above, where there’s volume and the skirt is fully lined you can wear any underwear you like – mine are dark grey bikini style, by the way.  And most importantly make sure it fits.

Okay, that’s it.
Rant over.
Thank you for listening.
I’m here all week.  Please remember to tip your waitress.

When Husband says, “It’s….nice?”

Hairclip – F21; Dress – Ruche; Belt – H&M; Shoes – Payless; Purse – Matt by Matt&Nat.

Husband got himself into trouble yesterday:

Me: Do you like my dress?
Him: It’s….nice?
Me:  Nice, huh?
Him: I mean…it’s nice…I like you in other things…but…um…yeah…it’s….nice.

For future reference, when Wife asks if you like her dress, the answer is a resounding “Yes!”, not a hesitant “it’s…nice?”  Husband doesn’t care for the “vintage, hippy thing” as he calls it.  Well, tough luck buddy, ’cause I do and you’re stuck with me. *sticking out tongue*

True Story:  Baby loooooves meat, potatoes and bread.  Husband commented, “You can tell she’s Polish.”  I didn’t know whether to be offended, or to chuckle.  So I did both. *haha. grrrr*

He’s on a roll isn’t he?

I’m A Nerd, What Of It?

Vest – AE; Shirt – F21; Jeans – Guess.

Headed off to a photography workshop today.  Hopefully it’s going to be very educational.  I’m really looking forward to improving my photography.   My dad put my first SLR camera in my hands when I was six, right around the time he taught me to play chess – he was nothing if not ambitious for his daughter.   So it’s been a passion of mine since I was little and I’m really looking forward to learning some more tricks of the trade.

And the outfit?  It’s all nerd, and it’s all me!  I love pairing nerd shirts with vests.  Something about the whole ‘hot nerd’ thing maybe?

Don’t forget to check out my shots from the Posthuman shoot here.

Focus On The Beauty

Tank – gift; Jeans – Guess; Sandals – Rocketdog; Bag – F21 (my patches)

Ever have a mixed bag of a day?  Some wonderful time with Baby, a great visit with some friends, a great rehearsal *see some pics here* , and then just some poo-ey other stuff.  It’s crazy how we let the one crappy thing overshadow the great things in our life.  I’m guilty of that.  I just couldn’t shake that down feelin’ despite the beauty of the day.    I really should focus on the things that make me so blessed  and not the things that bring me down *and that I have no control over*.

On that note, an article I wrote is now up on the Mommy Connections East Toronto website.  Check it out!

A Story All Of Their Own

Me and my darling babe playing on the swings!

Hat & Glasses – F21; Dress – vintage; Shoes – Payless; Belt – Spotted Moth.

First off, I’d like to say a warm welcome to my new followers!  You’re all awesome!  And I really hope you enjoy my humble blog.  It’s a genuine pleasure to write for all of you.  And your sweet comments always make my day.

I’m kind of obsessed with vintage dresses lately.  You may know of my general obsession with dresses, but the fact that these dresses are so unique and they have a history all their own really intrigues me.  I am small *not that I’m complaining*, so a lot of stuff doesn’t fit me all that well, but that’s why this belt is awesome.  It’s nice and thick and when I wrap it around me is suddenly makes things look like they fit.  I love this belt so much that I have another one in a tan color too!

Fun tidbit of news:  check out an article my friend was responsible for here.  It features a quote from me!

My Not-So-Graceful Marilyn Moment

So here’s some shots of the outfit I wore for Baby’s party.
I love that my dress twirls!
My hair was just not going to be straight with the humidity, so I just added some light curls to give it a little life.
Dress – handmade off Etsy; Hat – Ruche; Sandals – Zellers.
I love this little handmade dress.  When it came, I had to fix several of the seams because they weren’t done well, but really for $14 I couldn’t expect much.  And fixing seams is really easy so I’m not complaining…too much.  I really love the feminine feel of this dress.  Later that night I went to work, and walking down the street from the coffee shop I noticed something:  for some reason this dress makes my hips sway a bit more, and my back sit a lot straighter.  It just makes me feel a lot more lady-like and womanly.  And therefore, I think you’re going to see a lot of it!
P.S.  In that last shot my dress was caught by the wind and started rising right up.  It’s my Marilyn moment…only she handled it with a lot more style!

The Birds

I kept it simple in this outfit.  Basic Walmart t-shirt with a beach bum skirt *literally!  I bought it in Barcelona on the beach!* The shoes are my garden/backyard shoes from Value Village.  The reasoning behind this outfit?  I was tired so I didn’t feel motivated.  It was hot, so I wanted something light and cotton.  And I didn’t want to have to shave my legs, hence the maxi.

On a side note, the rose bush in my garden is a great backdrop for photos lately!  But that’s where my nature loving ends.  I hate the birds in my yard!  They eat all my plants and I only got half a strawberry cause of them.  Now I understand the allure of scarecrows.  I seriously want to adios the birds.  Anybody have a bow and arrow?

My Baby Birthday Suit

Forgot make-up…again.  Ssseesh, I got to try to remember that
Dress – somewhere in Barcelona.

Hey, it’s Baby’s birthday *I’ll share all that with you later* but here’s the dress I’m wearing today.  It’s one of my favs.  I got it in Barcelona and wore it a lot while bumming around Europe.

I love how easy it is to throw on a maxi and head out the door.  It’s one of those things you really don’t have to put a lot of thought into, but it still looks put together.  That’s true of any dress really, but maxis especially.  I think because they’re so long, they’re a show all in themselves and they make a statement without really trying.

Just so you know, I didn’t manage to get any shots, but I’m actually just wearing a simple nude flat sandal with it.

Raise A Toast To Friends

Shirt – Lucky 7; Shorts – Smart Set; Shoes – Zellers

It’s hot out!  Yay!  But I have a stupid cold.  Boo!
That’s okay ’cause I got to see a good friend today.  Baby and I went down to the local coffee shop *those people must think I’m weird ’cause I’m in there so much with constantly rotating people, but oh well* to meet a friend for tea.  And I must say it was wonderful.   We laughed, we cried,  but I feel really positive about where things will go from here.  Too often I think we let people fall by the wayside for the silliest of reasons.  But if you love someone – friend, lover, whatever – you owe it to yourself and to them not to let that happen.  And I really care for this person, so the fact that we had lost touch was sad.  But like I said, after today I feel really positive about where things will go from here.
And speaking of friends, my friend was recently on a trip and she says that when she saw these magnets she immediately thought of me.
I know which is my personal favorite, but can you guess?
