Tyrion and Goliath

‘Dress’ – Hot&Delicious via Threadsence  //   Sweater – HUH Boutique  //  Pants – Lululemon
Boots – Aldo  //  Necklaces – Ruche

Tall is a relative thing.  Some days I feel about as tall as Tyrion from Game of Thrones, though not nearly as powerful.  Other days, I feel like a massive Goliath towering over people.  Objectively, at 5’6″ I’m neither.  But on days like this where a dress barely covers my rear end and I really consider it a shirt, I definitely feel a bit like an overgrown child’s toy.

Yes, a child’s toy.  It’s appropriate considering my limbs are routinely utilized as a jungle gym, a restraint, and a healer of booboos for one spunky toddler.  Oh and in case you didn’t know, velvet is apparently a perfect surface to rub a runny nose on.  We’re oh so classy over here.

Wooing The Sun

 Dress – Moon Collection via Ruche //  Sweater – Gap  //  Vest – AE  //  Tights, Belt & Pink Ring – F21
Boots – Feet First  //  Necklace – bought in Spain  //  Earrings – c/o This Enchanted Pixie
Flower Ring – Ruche  //  Silver Oval Ring – Threadsence.

As the weather gets colder and the days get shorter and drearier, my arms automatically start reaching for brighter colors and lighter tones.  I know it’s the opposite of what’s ‘supposed’ to occur, with Autumn bringing deeper tones and richer shades, but it’s my instinctual reaction to reach for the bright and light.  Maybe my body believes it can will the heat and sun back, or woo it like a lover with an array of color draped over me in an eternal bouquet.

True Story:
Reverse psychology always works for kids.  Why is that?
Why is that the only way to get her to eat her dinner is to make a big show of not wanting her to eat her dinner?  I’m an actress, but I’m tired of performing this role every single night.

Stop For A Moment

Shirt – Stradivarius  //  Sweater – Zara  //  Pants – Lululemon  //  Boots – Feet First
Jacket, Ring & Earrings – F21  //  Necklace – Ruche
A weekend spent in productions meetings, read throughs, and pouring over scripts.  An outfit filled with an abundance of textures and monochromatic gorgeousness.  Tons of toddler hugs and ‘I wuv you.’  A deep tissue massage today to get rid of these tension headaches. Sometimes life is really good. I’m just going to stop and enjoy it.
True Story:
On a walk around the neighborhood, Baby Girl points out all the pumpkins she sees.
When I see a little tiny one I say, “Look a baby pumpkin.”
Baby Girl takes a moment to look, then starts to cry.
Turns out she was upset because it didn’t have a mommy with it.
So then we had to stop and I had to explain that pumpkins don’t have mommies, so it’s okay.
Finally, she stopped crying.

Homecoming

 Jacket – Gap  //  Dress – ModCloth *sold out*  // Tights & Necklace – F21  // Boots – Feet First  // Ring – Threadsence

Playing with different trends and styles.  Experimenting with different perceptions of self and different sides of various aesthetics.  These are the things I love about fashion.

But there’s also something serenely and peacefully perfect about a homecoming.  A homecoming to that outfit that best defines you. An outfit that really reflects to the world who you are at your core.  The outfit that feels just like the worn in jeans, a cup of hot chocolate, or that home cooked meal your mama made.

A floral dress, jean jacket and boots.  That’s my fashion chicken soup.  It just doesn’t get any better.

This is me world.

True Story:
Baby Girl got a firetruck and fireman action figure as a Thanksgiving Day present from my Mom.
I’m not talking about how she’s been obsessed with it ever since.
I am talking about how she took the fireman figure and insisted on changing his diaper.
The figurine is maybe 5 inches tall.
So he went from pooping his pants in a fire to being smothered in a diaper???
Poor guy can’t catch a break.

Nothing New, Nothing Old

Jacket & Tights – F21
Dress – ModCloth
Belt – H&M
Boots – Ruche

Everything old is new again, or more specifically, nothing gets old in my closet. I’ve had all these items for years.  Except the tights.  They’re about six months old and $5 at F21.  I love recombining older things in new ways.  Really I would say that’s the secret behind real style: being able to constantly create unique looks with existing items.

Now yes, sometimes you’ll hit on a combo you really like, and by all means repeat that.  And yes, there is a finite number of combinations that look good together, but then you work within that *rather large* finite number of combinations.    All I’m saying is that style comes from the ability to combine and create within the given set of materials.

Of course, that’s not to say I have style.  I just have an idea of what style is.

True Story:
I come home.
No welcome.
I go into the kitchen and see two bums facing me.
No welcome.
Both Andrew and Baby Girl are at the counter focused on cooking.
I say, “Hi.”  They both turn to briefly look at me and turn back.
He’s busy chopping.  She’s busy peeling the shells off hard boiled eggs.
Welcome home Mama… I guess.

Chocolate and Wine Only

Top & Pants – F21
Vest – I forget.  It’s old.
Shoes – Payless
Zebra Necklace – Lustre in Montreal
I’m calling these my grumpy pants.  Not because they make me grumpy, but because when I’m feeling grumpy and don’t want to wear anything it’s these pants I turn to. Seriously, I think Palazzo pants might be the best thing ever invented because they’re like sweatpants you can wear in public while looking fashionable.

It just doesn’t get better than that.

Okay, well maybe if there was a doctor approved “chocolate and wine only” diet for healthy living.  That I could really go for.  While wearing these pants.

Credit Where Credit Is Due

Blazer, Belt & Bracelets – F21
Dress – Moon Collection originally from Ruche
Shirt – American Eagle
Booties – I’m sorry, I don’t remember.  They’re old!

It’s Fall and the shops I frequent all come out with new LookBooks around this time of year.  I see them and want everything.  Of course I can’t have it!  There’s things like bills, mortgages, etc. etc.  But more than that, I like to stop and think about whether I can recreate that look with what I already have in my closet.

So, when Threadsence came out with their new LookBook I did just that.  I recreated this look from the things in my closet.   Thank you for the inspiration!

I take no credit for this outfit other than the fact that, at some point, I purchased all these items.

As one reader said, I really am a poster child for some of these companies.

The Mad Hatter’s Table

Top – Joe Fresh
Dress – Soprano, originally from Ruche
Belt – F21
Shoes – Payless
I wish I was one of those women who was truly upbeat and always saw the silver lining, but I’m not.  Yes, cognitive behavior therapy and such might change my spirits.  But let’s be honest.  I’ve always been a “half empty” or at least “it’s at half” kind of girl.
Maybe it’s a bit of the tortured artist syndrome.  Maybe I think that in order to be a truly inspired person I need to have some melancholy or madness in my being.  Hey, Van Gogh didn’t chop his ear off because he was happy, right?
I feel a bit like that Greek myth where the man is punished to pushing a boulder up the mountain only to have it tumble back down just as he nears the top.  Thus, ensuring that he’s pushing that boulder up a mountain for eternity.  I’m hopeful that one day that boulder will stick.

Isn’t that the mark of madness though?  Doing the same action while expecting a different result?  Sometimes I wonder if I’m not completely insane for being an actor.  Scratch that, I know I’m completely insane. I’ve got a standing invitation at the Mad Hatter’s table.

Best advice to someone considering acting:  if there is anything else you can be happy doing, do that.  This is for those painfully stricken with the disease of needing to act.

True Story:
After Baby Girl’s nap we read every single book in her room.  Every.Single. Book.
Then she twirled and twirled until she crashed into her crib.
And two hours spent in water play with bowls and a sandbox.
A good afternoon.

Doctor Who and Other Things That Scare Me

Dress – UO
Sandals – Ruche
Necklace – bought in Montreal
Ring – Lulus

If you’ve been around for a while you may know that I’m a total scardy-cat.  Honestly, I jump at everything and have a total suspension of disbelief so that I believe everything I see.  If Andrew is going away on a business trip I have to stop watching certain shows a week in advance so that the fear won’t be fresh in my mind.  And I’m not talking about The Walking Dead, I’m talking about Doctor Who.  Yup, the new campy, and sometimes scary Doctor Who.
Yes, I go to bed afraid that giant farting monsters disguised as people might get me in my sleep.
But on my behalf, “Blink“, with the weeping Angels, was terrifying!  I screamed a few times during that episode.
I also screamed while watching the clip I linked to here.
Told you.

Axl Rose, Pirate

Shorts – Gap
Shirt & Tank – hand me down
Sunnies & Necklace – F21
Shoes – Payless
Scarf – from my Babcia
“Argh, me matey!” is what I thought when I put on this kerchief.  That, along with, “Hmm, a little Axl Rose.”  But whatever.  I went with it.  I’m trying out different ways of having fun hair in the heat and humidity, and it’s a bit challenging sometimes.  I don’t want to always put my hair up, but I also don’t want flat lifeless hair just laying there.  So I thought I would give this a go.  Overall, I enjoyed wearing a fun kerchief and only once did I break into a Guns ‘N Roses song.  While on my bike.  Alone.  So you know, no witnesses.
