I Dare You Not To Look *Dressember Link Up*

Top – hand me down  //  Dress – c/o eShakti  //  Tights – HUE
Shoes – Payless  //  Necklaces & Earrings – Ruche

I could not be happier with this red dress from eShakti.  Since having received it back in September and featuring it then, it has just grown and grown in my eyes.  I think I love the LRD more than I love the LBD.   There’s something so coy about  a simply cut dress in such a bold color.  It’s as if you’re outwardly blending in, but inwardly daring people not to look at you.  The subtly subversive side.

I also couldn’t resist featuring my sister in her kick ass animal print dress.  I would so totally steal that.

This week is the last link up for Dressember – so show me your best!!!

Eye Sneezing Conundrum

Vest & Necklace – F21  //  Shirt – Campus Crew
Tank – hand me down  //  Jeans – Gap  //  Boots – Locale

I know.  Epic fail on Dressember, but hear me out.  I’m sick.  Like super sick.  Like I can’t breathe, and can’t wear mascara because every single time I feel like I’m going to sneeze my left eye tears up, and this happens about once per minute.

So I said to Andrew, “I’m wearing jeans and a shirt today.”  I went upstairs and put on jeans and my comfy plaid shirt.  Then I thought to myself that it’d be real fun to pair it with a glam necklace.  So I put one on.  And somehow a vest just seemed to pop in my brain to complete the outfit.  I didn’t put on any make up because of aforementioned eye sneezing problem and didn’t bother running a brush through my hair.

When I came downstairs Andrew laughed, “That’s your idea of jeans and a shirt?”

“Yeah, what’s wrong with it?”

Dressember Week Three Link Up

Dress – ModCloth  //  Cardi – H&M  //  Tights – HUE
Boots – Feet First  //  Necklace and Belt – F21
It may be sweet dressing, but I am drawn to big classic floral dresses like this one.  Perhaps my own biting and sarcastic mind is starving to create some sort of balance.  Or perhaps it’s a soft exterior designed to fool and lull into submission.   Whatever the reason, this is the exterior.
Now, let’s see how week three of Dressember went for you.  Link up your post, FB pic or twitter pic.  I’d love to see how things went.  And of course, a link back or button display is much appreciated.

When The Walls Come Down

Dress – Lace Affair  //  Sweater – Kensie  //  Fringe Cardi – Reverse
Necklace – Threadsence  //  Tights – HUE  //  Booties – Walmart  //  Headband – The Trendy Owl
Sometimes the very notion of something fitted and something directly touching my skin and creating any friction is repellent.  On those days I turn to loose, flowing layers and gentle, soft fabrics.  If something must touch my skin it better be a soft and serene graze.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that on those days I also reach for florals, cozy blankets, tea, and comforting books.   Sometimes our adult thick skin wears a bit thin and we need to feel safe and comforted.  A lazy walk with a cute little girl doesn’t hurt either.
True Story:
Andrew was working on fixing the window in Baby Girl’s room.
She decided to show off by climbing into her crib.  Once inside she wanted out.
Andrew, knowing she was well contained in there, kept delaying and putting her off.
When he finally lifted her out of the crib and set her down.
She looked him right in the eyes, gave him a big smile, and smacked him a good one on the arm.
Then she ran off fully satisfied that he got his comeuppance.

Dressember Week Two Link Up

Cardi, Necklace & Belt – F21  //  Shirt – H&M  //  Dress – Ruche
Tights – HUE  //  Boots – Locale  //  Ring – Spotted Moth
Yesterday was a bit of a write off.  Baby Girl is sick so we spent the day in a blur of tiredness and cuddles on the couch.  C’est la vie.  But on a brighter note, we’re halfway through Dressember!  So far, I’ve had a great time.  I’m so excited to see how your second week went.
So please link up your round up post, your favorite post, or a favorite Instagram/twitter/FB pic.  If you can, I’d love for you to grab the button and display it on your post.  It’s much appreciated.

The Unseen Friend

Dress – Stradivarius in Spain  //  Tights – F21
Boots – Feet First  //  Necklace – Ruche  //  Coat – TNA
I thought it was all time you saw my winter coat.  It’s really cold here now, and the one essential is a winter coat that keeps you all nice and toasty.  This is mine.  I usually shuck it off for pictures and then dash like a mad woman for the warmth it provides. Sure it may not go with every outfit I ever wear, but at the same time, it keeps me warm on bone chilling days.  So yes, it’s always just out of view of the camera.

When You Get To Hit Someone With A Stick

Dress – Monteau  //  Top – hand me down  //  Tights – Hue
Shoes – Payless  //  Necklace – c/o Imprintalish
Andrew says to me, “I’ll make you a deal.  You sew and fix my jacket
and I’ll give you a foot massage tonight.”  Now, first off I get foot
massages fairly regularly so I can afford to be a little cavalier about
them.  Secondly, I have a dislocated baby toe due to something Andrew
did so I’m already not feeling overly generous towards him. Therefore I
say,”Fine, but I get to hit you with a large stick anytime you touch my
injure toe.”  Foolishly he agrees.

So later that night he says,”Let’s get together and I’ll give you that massage.”
“One
minute,” I answer and walk upstairs.  Andrew settles himself on the
couch and I return shortly with one of my Kali sticks in hand.  He
thought I was joking earlier.

Normally, he’s
terrible at remembering an injury. It’s not the first time we’ve made
this sort of deal and I know how this goes, therefore I had to add the
‘stick’ amendment.  But I think I’m really onto something as this time,
with the looming threat of being bashed repeatedly with a weapon, he
steers clear of the injury and the trade goes down without a hitch.

Frankly,
I was a little disappointed.  I mean, how often does someone give you permission to hit them with a stick?

p.s  Dressember continues in all it’s fun!  Catch an ad for 50% off before December 10th and the proceeds all go to charity!

The Filter of The Mind

Sweater – F21  //  Top – Gentlefawn  //  Pants – Gap
Boots – Aldo  //  Necklace & Ring – Threadsence
Sort of fitting that today I wore my favorite velvet pants since I decided last minute to do Dressember!  That’s where you wear a dress everyday in December – some do it for charity and some do it for fun. I’ve decided that I’m going to do it for charity.  So on that note, any revenue from ads purchased until Dec 10th *for 50% off* will be donated to a charity.  I’m not sure yet which one.  I’m thinking either World Vision, Because I am a Girl, or Toy Mountain here in Toronto *gives needy kids a toy on Christmas*  I’ll definitely keep you posted on my choice, and in the meantime feel free to make a suggestion.
I feel excited about this challenge, but also well, I’m not sure how difficult it’ll be.  You know, considering my rather limited *blatant hyperbole* collection of dresses.   My challenge will be choosing which dresses to feature this month.  Or maybe it’ll be ignoring all the cute skirts in my closet.  I know, I have a serious problem here folks. Serious. Problems.  I mean comparable to global warming or poverty in third world countries, right?  How will I ever cope?
Sometimes I can’t believe the things that spew out of my mouth.  Believe me, I’m well aware of the ridiculousness that these hands are capable of writing.  But are you also aware of the ridiculousness that I think but don’t actually write?  Yes, this is after going through a filter, a rather thin one mind you, but a filter nonetheless.  Imagine what doesn’t make it through.  It boggles the mind.

‘Cause We All Need Five Minutes Sometimes

Sweater – Zara  //  Dress – Ruche  //  Shoes – Payless
Tights – Hue  //  Belt & Earrings – F21  //  Coat – Jacob
Today was one of those extremely ridiculous days.   No, not one of those days where you’re running for the bus with a stroller only to have your cellphone bounce out of said stroller onto the sidewalk and you have to run back to catch it as you watch that bus go by and another one doesn’t come for 45 minutes.  No, not one of those days, though they are fun, and that did happen yesterday.
Today was one of those days where I stood in front of my closet for an hour in my tiny little bathrobe lamenting, no whining and crying, in my head that I had absolutely nothing to wear.  Yes, I realize how absolutely ridiculous it is for me to say that since I have the wardrobe of three other women combined.
But it was just one of those days where nothing seems to exactly capture the mood you’re in, and nothing speaks to you, and not one item in your closet works.  It’s one of those days where I just wanted to burn everything – or donate it, or whatever – and start fresh.
No, I don’t have that luxury, and yes it would be a total waste of resources and therefore completely against my moral code, but today was one of those days.
I’m just going to sit in the corner and pout about it a little bit.
And then get over it, ’cause there’s real trouble in the world.
Excuse me for five minutes.
True Story:
While visiting a friend and her children, Baby Girl and her boy crawl into bed under the covers.
His mom turns to me and says, “Maybe we should get their betrothal officially before anything else happens.”

Return To My Roots

Dress – ModCloth  //  Sweater, Necklace & Belt – F21  //  Tights – Hue  //  Shoe – Clarks
Coat – Jacob  //  Scarf – Urban Outfitters  //  Mitts – Walmart
Sometimes words come from my lips unbidden and like a honeyed sea of witty sarcasm full of revelations and various other profundities.  Other days, like today, my mind is a discombobulated mess of rhythms, thoughts, and emotions all pulling me in different directions.  So pardon my lack of eloquence as I say that:
a) It was very windy and cold, yet I felt light and warm throughout.
b) Today I shucked my recent boho style and was drawn to the more ladylike side of my closet that has remained hidden of late.
c) I like the way a silky, satin dress feels against my skin as the wind plays with it on a cold day.
d) Yes, I realize that by eloquently stating my lack of eloquence I am indeed proving myself a bald faced liar.
