Little Red Dress

Dress c/o eShakti // Ruche earrings & necklace // Clarks shoes // Smart Set infinity scarf

I don’t usually showcase the same outfit two days in a row, but in yesterday’s post it just didn’t seem fitting to talk about the dress.  I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect red dress for just over a year.  Seriously, I’m that picky.  I wanted the perfect dress, you know? I wasn’t about to settle.

It seemed like kismet that when the folks from eShakti contacted me about styling one of their Fall collection pieces, I found this beautiful red dress just waiting there on the site.  It seemed to have been waiting just for me.  *I was also considering this one*

I’ve received an eShakti dress before, and I have since worn it so many times *here, here, here* Each time I wear it I get at least two compliments.  This new piece is no exception.  Within two hours I received a compliment from a co-worker and from a total stranger.  I love that!

Here’s the thing you can’t tell from the photos though – the dresses I’ve received are made from heavy and durable material.   They aren’t flimsy you know?  They have heft to them and I really like that. I really like the little sweetheart neckline on this one, and I’m so glad that I finally found the perfect red dress.  *insert little squeal here*

The Heart of The Big Bad Wolf

Little Red Riding Hood, the hapless and helpless damsel in distress.
Innocent in demeanor and guileless in intention.

She was chased and hunted by the big bad wolf.

She barely escaped with her life.

The wolf fared worse.

What if she wasn’t so innocent?

What if she lured and baited.

Desiring the heart of her enemy.

These Are The Best Days

Shirt – Joe Fresh
Dress – ShopSosie
Shoes – Modcloth
Necklace – Beau and Bauble

When I was fifteen I remember my mom saying she felt about sixteen.  At the time I thought, “Oh come on!  You’re thirty seven!  Thirty Seven! That’s practically a senior citizen!”  Being myself closer to thirty seven than fifteen right now, I know where she was coming from. It’s sometimes unbelievable to me how fast everything goes.
While I don’t feel sixteen, I do most days feel like I’m anywhere between eighteen and twenty two.  It’s a stark realization to me that I’m no longer that age.
Side note: It also edges into creepy when boys *and I do mean boys* that age make a pass at me because, though flattering to my vanity, it makes me cringe with the notion that I could’ve been their baby sitter.
It’s just weird to think how fast time flies and how I have absolutely no perception of it’s passage except to one day realize that geez, I’m not 22 anymore.
True Story:
Coming downstairs and seeing my baby girl standing on a chair at the counter helping Daddy cook.
A chorus of her making sloppy stirring sounds, vrrrroooms!, and “I do it!”
Priceless.

Trick Question

Dress – Trashy Diva
Shoes – Payless
Necklace – gift from Poland

You know that question women ask, “Does this make me look fat?”  It’s a trick question.  It’s a trap, and there’s no easy way to navigate out of it.  So Andrew asked me the male version of this same question while we were watching the Olympics, “Would you rather I have a gymnast’s body or a swimmer’s body?”  There’s no easy way to navigate that one.  Just walk away, head into the kitchen, pour both of you a nice scotch and change the subject.
Thank you Laphroaig peaty scotch for getting me out of that one.

p.s.  I’m so glad you all like the Coffee Talk Vids – more coming up next Friday, August 17th.  In the meantime, might I suggest checking out the July LookBook Video or watching me in Posthuman?

I Hate This Dress So Much….

Dress – Cooperative from UO
Jacket – Old Navy
Necklace – Ruche
Shoes – Payless
…I just can’t get enough of it!  This dress was on ridiculous sale and I was immediately drawn to it like a moth to a flame.  I don’t know why exactly.  It has everything I hate in a dress: intentionally vintage looking beige cotton/linen background, obnoxious bold black outline of a print, and a mix of neon yellow, teal, red and coral that has no rhyme or reason.  But despite all that, or maybe even because of it, I’m inexplicably and magically drawn to it.  I couldn’t help myself.
It’s funny how sometimes we find something that has exactly what we never knew we wanted.
Quote of Today:
“I blame it on you for handing me a loaded gun, or you know, a delicious popsicle.”

Talking with TED

Top – H&M
Flower Necklace & Tights – F21
Charm necklace – Lulus. com *have you entered the giveaway?*
Shirt – Ruche
Shoes – Payless
I love TED talks.  I’m a little late getting on the bandwagon, but I’m so glad that I got there eventually.  I just recently watched the one with J.J. Abrams on the Mystery Box in story telling.  I’m a huge J.J. Abrams fan.  Some guys, like him and Joss Whedon, just get a pass with me on almost everything.  I loved his energy and his enthusiasm talking about the mystery box.  Have you seen TED talks?  Which ones do you recommend?
True Story:
Andrew told Baby, “It’s nap time.”
She grabbed her blankie and headed upstairs.
Once there, she saw that the blinds were down and the room was dark.
So she walked up to the crib, grabbed on, and started bouncing saying, “Up, Up” to signal that she wanted to go inside.
I guess she was ready for sleep.
She kills me with her cuteness!

Trifecta of Flattery

Top – H&M
Cardi & Jeans – Gap
Necklace & Shoes – Ruche
Soooo…I’m a sucker for shameless flattery.  Yup.  I’ve figured it out.  People who shamelessly flatter me, not only get exactly what they want, but they also put a true rosy hue on my cheeks.  I can say ‘no’ to a strong case of the compliments, but I often don’t.  Flattery, chocolate, and a foot massage are pretty much the trifecta of getting me to do something for you.

Crap.  Andrew reads this blog…which means I’m going to be doing a lot for him. But it also means there’s a lot more chocolate and foot massages in my future.
I can live with that.

True Story:
Baby’s been obsessed with Grapefruit!
She has at least one a day – maybe even one and a half.
But don’t you dare try to give her an orange!
She’s having none of that.

The Rest Is Silence

Vest – AE
Dress – bought in London, UK
Shoes – Payless
Sometimes I don’t know what to say or do.  Sometimes on these days I say and do something really stupid.  So today I’m just going to sit in silence.  I will say this though – This dress was all of four pounds in the UK several years ago – that’s $8!  Now that’s a deal.

Tuck That Right In

Cardi – Old Navy
Dress – Trashy Diva
Shoes – Payless
Earrings & Necklace – c/o/ This Enchanted Pixie

I’ve got some really great friends! We had an impromptu Snakes&Lattes meet up. *For everyone, Snakes&Lattes is a cafe where you pay a small cover then play every and any board game imaginable – it’s nerd heaven….so it’s my heaven!*  Fun games and even met two new people that I’ll maybe see again at another meet up.  And I’ve got an epic BSG game planned for Saturday March 31st…with both expansions.   Okay, is my nerd showing?  Oops, I think it’s peeking out the hem of my dress.  Let’s just tuck that right back in there.

p.s. yes, this is the same cardi as in this post.  I re-wear stuff.  I’ve only got one closet…for now. *insert evil laugh here*

True Story:
Baby’s developed a serious obsession with grapefruits.
She eats one to one and a half per day.
But don’t try to give her an orange instead.
She’ll “Neo!” and shake her head to set you straight.

This Reverie

Sweater – Gap
Dress – Ruche
Tights – Hue
Boots – Locale

Ever find that some winter days just feel so quiet?  It’s not necessarily a tangible thing, more like a feeling hanging in the air, but it feels like the world hushes itself a touch, and a stillness abounds.  Some days I look outside my window and feel this global pause…until my baby girl’s excited babbles interrupt my reverie and bring a smile to my face.

Oh, and don’t forget to check out two spots from BevMo here, that I shot a while back.

True Story:
Baby made her first sandwich.
Applesauce spread on a piece of toasted and buttered bread.
By her proud reaction, I’m guessing it’s yummy.
