Cute clothes for women, that’s what we think about when you think fashion blog.  But then I share that I’m a mom, and people say they never would’ve guessed, and look at my outfit.  Who says that the second we become Moms, or Dads, that we’re relegated to mommy jeans and cardigans?   Though it would be hilarious to see a Dad in mommy jeans. But I digress.

I firmly believe that style is not relegated to one stage of life, or to one age of life.  Style, in my mind, is a reflection of where you are in life, and what you’re feeling and thinking in that moment of time.  It’s ever in flux.

Perhaps, that’s why I don’t believe in a uniform.  A uniform implies no ebb and flow.  It implies a certain stagnation to me, a lack of experimentation and growth.  But maybe that’s me.  Maybe they’ve got it all figured out and have arrived at their true and complete selves – their personal nirvana and have no where else to go.

Me?  I am ever curious about what’s around the corner.

What Rules!?: Loose Woman

Pants – Skies Are Blue  //  Shirt – Gap  //  Sweater – Jana  //  Shoes – H&M  //  Necklace and earrings – old and I forget
There was this old belief in the 50s that you if you wore high heels with cropped pants you had loose morals.  So, one rule for ladies was that you never did so.  Today, this clearly loose woman *what with the Husband and child* is breaking the rule of wearing cropped pants with high heels.
Except that for some reason my cropped pants look like full length pants in these shots.  Perhaps it was the fact that I was hunching and withdrawn as the icy wind blew in my face? Made me about 4 inches shorter.
And I’d like to mentioned that I had an audience of six while taking these shots – construction workers that are tearing up our street gave me more than a few eyebrows, from under their hats and big parkas, as they watched the crazy lady with her tripod.
So maybe I’m not loose, just weird?
I’m okay with that.
Next week, I’ll be mixing leopard with plaid.  So if you want to do that, feel free and leave your link in the comments of next weeks post.

Decades From Now and With No Cost

Dress – Suzy Sheir  // Boots – Call It Spring  //  Rings – F21  //  Necklace – bought in Europe

There’s nothing that says that personal style and a wardrobe you love has to be new or pricey.  This dress, one of my favorites, is the exact opposite of both.  Less than twenty dollars, over ten years ago, and yet it still belongs in my wardrobe.  It’s still part of my style, and it’s still something that people will compliment me on.

This is something on my mind as the leaves are already starting to change color and I’m reminded of the transience of fashion, as fickle as the seasons.  Fall reminds me to stay true to the things that matters and, as it applies to fashion, the styles and pieces that are truest to myself as well.

You don’t have to stay with trends, or change every season, or spend hundreds of dollars.  You just have to know what work for you, and what you might possibly love a decade from now.  Those loves, those perfect pieces, may be hundreds of dollars….or they may cost four lattes.   Personal style is without price.

p.s.  the new link up starts on Thursday

Repeat, Repeat, Repeat *And a New Link Up announced*

Sweater – Smart Set //  Tank & Jeans – Gap  //  Boots – Feet First  //  Necklace – c/o Atterley Road  //  Scarf – c/o Sexton In The City  //  Ring – Body Blue Toronto  //  Bag – unknown
People often ask me if it’s okay to repeat outfits.  And my answer is always, “Of Course!”  If you find a great combo use it.  Use it and re-work it, repeat it, whatever.  Often just changing a necklace or earrings is enough to add some freshness.  I do this all the time.  Mix up pieces I’m loving and re-wearing fun outfits.  There’s nothing wrong with it.
We seem to have this idea that everyday has to be new and different.  But think about those things we love:  our favorite book, favorite movie, favorite grandma’s stew.  We love them because they’re great and they never change.  I don’t see the problem with a great outfit either.

NEW LINK UP!  On that note, I’ve been wanting to do a fun link up for a long time.  And I’ve finally got the idea for one.  With Thursday being the unofficial start of  the weekend, and with the weekend being a time when we feel it’s okay to break some rules, I’m going to be hosting a Thursday link-up all about breakin’ the rules in fashion. *’Cause I don’t really think there are any*  Link up starts next Thursday October 10th.  I hope you join me.

And the first rule I want you to break is : No white after labor day.  So antiquated.  Let’s show ’em how fabulous we look breakin’ all the rules.  Style an outfit that breaks this rule and link up next Thursday.  Easy peasy!

Head Under Water

Romper -Hot&Delicious  //  Sandals – F21  //  Hair Bow – Ruche
Underneath I’m wearing my bathing suit, as these pictures were taken on the walk over to the public pool.  My friend Emily and I took Baby Girl swimming.  All three of us had a fun time splashing in the big pool and watching Baby Girl ‘swim’ on her belly.
But what made me laugh the most was the surprised look on my girl’s face when she stepped just a touch too far and went straight underwater.  That little mouth in a perfect ‘o’ with wide eyes  – just made me burst out laughing.
She, of course, was less than amused.  So Emily and I hid our giggles.

The Classic Combo…

Dress -ASOS  //  Sweater – Smart Set  //  Boots – Call it Spring  //  Necklace – gift

…a dress and cardigan.  Throw in a pair of boots like I have and the result is a veritable cliche of dressing.  But you know my thoughts on a cliche?  It’s there for a reason.  This sartorial cliche exists because those things fit together.  I love this trifecta of clothing, and I’m not giving it up no matter how cliche that is.  ‘Cause I’m no quiter *sorry, to throw in an actual cliche somewhere*

p.s. I’m downright giddy that I can wear dresses and boots without tights right now.

The Bike Weathered Winter Though I Did Not

Sweater – Kensie  //  Cardigan – Gap  //  Pants – Skies Are Blue  //  Shoes – ModCloth  //  Necklace – Ruche  //  Jacket – Old Navy
The first nice day of the bike season my baby was out of the shed and cruising around town.  It handled the winter well, and was more than ready for the Spring.  All the guy at the shop had to do was tightens a few gears and put air in the tires.  Me however?  Not so much.  I had to run around town like mad and ended up biking for a total of 3 hours.  And I live in a very hilly area.  The bike may have held up well, but my body did not.  Granted the hour and a half kung fu class certainly didn’t help.
I love Spring!

Dress like everyone’s looking.

Top & Sunnies – F21  //  Jacket – BB Dakota via ModCloth  //  Pants – Lululemon  //  Boots – Feet First  //  Necklace – Threadsence
It’s the first lovely day of Spring so of course Baby Girl and I go to the playground for an extended stay.  It’s a lot of fun, and even though the slides and the postman were the only ones to see me, I still needed to dress up and feel great.  ‘Cause that’s what it’s really all about.
p.s. So I just got this necklace, and I’ve already lost the matching earrings.  Fail.  Oh and I’m having a 50% off sale on all ad space!  Use the code “SPRING”  Sale lasts until April 15th.  Everyone who purchases an ad with this code until April 15th is automatically entered into a random draw to win one month of “SuperCool” ad space.

How Come I Always Get The Tail End of A Dog?

 Top – hand me down  //  Skirt – C’est Moi  //  Belt – F21  //  Tights – HUE  //  Boots – Feet First   // Necklace – Ruche

Why is that when Drake the Dog decides to photobomb my outfit shoots he always has to either be showing the camera his bum or, when he’s feeling really classy, relieving himself?  Or both.  I tell you he’s one classy guy that dog.  In fact I’m surrounded by nothing but class:

The dog that relieves himself in front of the camera, the husband who’s teaching our daughter to belch, and the baby girl who thinks her farts are hilarious!  *yes, Daddy taught her that one too*

Wilderness Dress *A Review*

Dress – c/o  DressStore  //  Necklace – eBay  //  Scarf – Unknown
Just recently I was contacted about doing a few reviews for the DressStore website.  It’s a site the specializes in formal, prom, homecoming, and fancy cocktails dresses.  I liked the idea of playing with gowns that I don’t normally get a chance to wear.  For my first piece I selected this lovely claret chiffon gown.
The quality is to die for.  It has boning and so many layers.  It feels like a really durable piece.  Further, I love the color.  I think I may have to wear this color always.  I may even have to get every dress I ever own in this color.  I just love the combo of the red with the flowing nature of the dress.
Obviously, I’ve styled this down in a breezy, almost casual, way.  It’s certainly not a casual dress.  It’s something I can imagine wearing on a red carpet.  What I like about it is that it’s glamorous and red carpet worthy without being over the top.  Over the top has it’s place, but when I saw this dress I imagined a wilderness shoot, so flowy and delicate were on deck.
