The Long Goodbye

Jacket – F21  //  Sweater – Cotton Candy from Ruche  //  Jeans – Gap  //  Boots – Threadsence  //  Scarf – Urban Outfitters

These pictures are from a few days ago, and I’m sad to say that I’ve lost these boots.  They are peeling now.  The faux leather top layer is literally coming away from the rest of the boot.  So they’re going in the garbage. I’m really sad to see them go especially as they’re only ten months old, but there’s no fixing something like that.

Saying goodbye to a pair of shoes is sort of like saying goodbye to an old friend.   I find that you wear shoes more than certain pieces in your closet, and so there’s a lot of sentimentality attached to that item.  We’ve been through good and bad, and it feels like a kind of betrayal to just toss them out.

But at the same time, they are just an inanimate object and I am probably anthropomorphizing them just a touch too much.

True Story:
Baby Girl is taking a bath, playing, and generally having a great time.
Suddenly she stops, looks at me dead serious and says, “Grandma stinky.  Stiiiiinky.”
I don’t know where that come from, but I bet there’s a story there.

Lil S@*t

Sweater – hand me down  //  Belt – F21  //  Skirt – ModCloth  //  Boots – Feet First
It’s starting to be that time of the year.  The one where in the pictures it’s sunny and gorgeous, but the reality is that I rush outside, set up the photo, whip off my coat and pretend to feel just splendid for outfit photos while I shake and freeze.  All with the neighbors watching and heckling.

Yes heckling.
Can’t it be spring already?

True Story:
Drake the dog jumped up and stole a piece of toast left on the ottoman.
I immediately responded, by saying, “Oh you little S@*t!”
From the kitchen I hear a little Baby Girl voice say, “Lil s@*t!”
Guess I really need to watch my mouth.

Homecoming

 Jacket – Gap  //  Dress – ModCloth *sold out*  // Tights & Necklace – F21  // Boots – Feet First  // Ring – Threadsence

Playing with different trends and styles.  Experimenting with different perceptions of self and different sides of various aesthetics.  These are the things I love about fashion.

But there’s also something serenely and peacefully perfect about a homecoming.  A homecoming to that outfit that best defines you. An outfit that really reflects to the world who you are at your core.  The outfit that feels just like the worn in jeans, a cup of hot chocolate, or that home cooked meal your mama made.

A floral dress, jean jacket and boots.  That’s my fashion chicken soup.  It just doesn’t get any better.

This is me world.

True Story:
Baby Girl got a firetruck and fireman action figure as a Thanksgiving Day present from my Mom.
I’m not talking about how she’s been obsessed with it ever since.
I am talking about how she took the fireman figure and insisted on changing his diaper.
The figurine is maybe 5 inches tall.
So he went from pooping his pants in a fire to being smothered in a diaper???
Poor guy can’t catch a break.

Starbuck and Jadzia Dax

Jacob jacket // ModCloth dress // F21 socks // Threadsence boots

I have always avoided the bump ponytail.   I feel like I’m Lt. Jadzia Dax.  And if you know who I’m talking about, I love you!  If you don’t, well then…I’m a nerd and I’m talking about Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

I know it looks nothing like it, but that’s all I could think about every time I caught a glimpse of my face.  It was driving me a little crazy.  That’s why about two hours later, my hair was in a side french braid.  I just can’t do justice to the Dax!

These are the problems you face as a die-hard sci-fi fan.  Sometimes in your head it looks like you’re trying to be one of the characters.

Like when I wear a racerback tank I always feel like Starbuck.  But in those circumstances I don’t take it off.  Instead I say, “Frak yeah!  Let’s go toaster shopping!”

Prepubescent and Awkward

Shirt – hand me down
Deanerys Stormborn Necklace – Etsy
Shoes – ModCloth
Dress – in Coral at Dress911, in Burgundy at ModCloth.

There are days and times I don’t know what to say.  Other moments, the quick wit and smart remarks just seem to fall off the tip of my tongue with no effort.  There are days I feel I can conquer the world, and other days where I suddenly feel prepubescent and awkward.
I had that recently at an audition.  I came in with my same quirky, smart mouthed self and sat next to this Greek goddess with boobs out to here and flowing black hair down to there.  Suddenly, I was that awkward geeky prepubescent girl and it felt like the first day of high school.
What is it about our own personal insecurities that can cripple us at a moments notice?  Do we ever outgrow them?  I’d like to think so, but moments like these teach me that I still have a lot of growing to do.
True Story:
Baby Girl comes into the kitchen and says something.
I don’t understand it so I guess and say it back.
She says, “Nooooooooo!” and repeats the original phrase.
It takes me a while but I finally figure out what she’s saying,” Oh, you farted?”
She nods and proceeds to fall apart in a fit of giggles.
Apparently, farts are hilarious.

On Learning New Things

Sweater – Pink Martini
Shorts & Necklace – Ruche
Shoes – Threadsence
Coral&Pink Necklace – c/o Twillypop
Earrings – gift

My Mama left for Poland, and that means I have a car for three weeks!  I’m giddy, giddy with glee let me tell you.  We don’t own a car – a combination of a lack of need for one, and a lack of funds for one – but now that we do have one, I’m all excited about driving places.  Can’t wait!
Mind you, this coming from the girl who still doesn’t use drive thrus but instead parks the car and walks into the coffee shop.  This may or may not be because I have an irrational fear of ripping my side mirror off in a really bad turn and embarrassing myself in front of everyone.
I neither confirm nor deny anything.
True Story:
Baby girl steps on Andrew’s lap and he yells, “Ow!  You’re stepping on my Penis!”
And for the next hour I have a toddler running around the house proudly exclaiming,”Pe-is! Pe-is! Pe-is!!”
Can’t wait for that to come out at the grocery store.

B.C. Round Up

Location scouting for photos and delicious chocolate made for a fun day.

Random tree art can be found on hikes all around Rossland.  And it’s got a fun sense of humor.

p.s. I was so excited to be on the popular looks board on Chictopia!

Sometimes Even I Think

Shirt – Thrifted
Dress – *similar on ModCloth*
Shoes – Payless
The grandeur and beauty of British Columbia was amazing.  I loved seeing mountains and gorgeous vistas everywhere I looked.  It really grounds you and makes you wonder about the importance of certain things.  I came home and that was hit home even further by the changes that had occurred in my absence in the life of another best friend.  Life is full of unexpected changes.  And who knows where we’ll end up at the end right?
Sorry to be so profound.  My brain isn’t usually full of deep thoughts.  Usually, it’s an abundance of sci-fi trivia and randomness ricocheting about and ending up on the page in *hopefully* coherent form.

Beautiful Scape

Top – hand me down
Dress – Everly
Necklace – Ruche
Shoes – Payless
Emily’s parents in B.C. have the most beautiful backyard, and just being around the house was a visual feast.  Don’t even get me started on the wonderful forest and mountain scape that surrounded me the entire time.  I could easily live here and get lost in all this beauty.
Quote of Today:
“Emily, how do YOU spell it?”

These Are My Peeps?

Dress – Mystic (similar)

Sometimes I look around my neighborhood, shake my head, and think,”I live in a psychiatric community.”  Take a walk with me:
There’s the shaking of my house because of you know what.  And the crazy couple that has occasional loud arguments – always at 1-3 am in the morning – and he throws her out of the house each time.  We have the requisite lecherous older man who seems to think no woman is off limits.  Then the couple with the dog who decorate their house like the holiday threw up on them *I love these guys by the way*
The guys who turn their backyard into one big party place with bonfires and torches every year.  Oh, and the house where the children are always naked. There’s the small apartment building where they all seem to be related…sort of creeped out by that.  And the house with the two dogs that bark like they’re on doggie steroids.  One of whom is also dipping into a stash of helium, I’m convinced.
We also see the guy who refers to Drake *all ten pounds of him* as “Killer” and not ironically.  There’s the lady with the dog who always wants to tear your throat out.   The man who fishes in our local pond daily at 8am.   And a guy who spends his day standing on his front lawn *I have no idea why*
I’m not sure if I’m the straight man out, or if there’s something I’m just not seeing and these are really my peeps, you know?
Maybe I’m the crazy woman who takes pictures of herself.
*sigh*
