Some parents worry about their children heading off to school, or daycare, because of the tears their children shed.  I don’t have to worry about that particular thing.

Today, I dropped off the little one at a Kindergarten prep course.  Her very first class, very first time in the building, and very first time meeting these people.  She was off and running away from me before I even got her coat off.  Didn’t look back, not once.

When I came to pick her up the teacher said, “Look who’s here to get you!”  She turned, took one look at me and frowned, “You forgot my snack, ’cause I had snack time!”

Yup, no issues with independence or being left alone.  Really, we’re the transportation and snack providing machinery in her life.

Punk.

Love What’s Here, and Anticipate What’s To Come

As you can see Winter is still fully entrenched here.  But I’m not minding it so much.  Why you ask?  * I know, you’re just dying to ask*  It’s because I’m busy with shoots, scripts, and scene work.  This feeds my soul.  Working scenes and playing characters completely feeds this girl and nothing, not even the threat of another winter storm can deter me.  I feel excited for more and more scripts coming my way and getting my butt into some workshops and classes in the coming months.  It’s that excitement that comes from the anticipation of what’s just around the corner.  But it’s accompanied by the joy at what’s here and now in the present.  And that’s about three scripts at once!

So tell me, what feeds your soul?  And are you feeling this sort of vibrant anticipation of Spring?  Tell me I’m not alone here.

Why You Eat Your Children

After bath time, I’m trying to get pajamas onto a little girl who’s more interested in talking and wriggling.

Suddenly, she runs over to the pregnancy photo hanging in the room.

“That my Daddy.  That Drake. That my mommy. That me in Mommy’s belly.”

And without out missing a beat she tilts her head towards me, “Mama, why you eat me?”

I had no answer.

Today I am the greatest mother in the world.  There is a profound joy on my daughter’s face.  She giggles in glee and hangs on to me for dear life.  She yells, “Mama, bump, bump, bump!” and I obediently jostle her up and down.  She delights when I crouch down in front of her, and her hands grab my shoulders greedily.

Yes, today she has discovered the full joy of the Piggy Back.

The skies have parted for her.  And I am the greatest mother in the world.

Thank you Piggy Backs.

Another Horrible Mother Moment

Sweater – ModCloth //  Skirt – Ruche *altered by me*  //  Boots – Call It Spring  //  Tights – HUE  //  Shirt – Smart Set  //  Necklace – F21

Ever seen that movie Sophie’s Choice with Meryl Streep?  So she’s in a concentration camp and a Nazi makes her chose between her two children – which one lives and which one dies.  She gets to keep one.  The rest of the movie revolves around this choice.  It’s heart wrenching…and I’m going to make a joke involving it.

I say, ” We’re going to Gramma and Grandpas.”

Baby Girl says, “I wanna take my babies.”

I reply, “Nope, you can only take one.”

Sophie’s Choice for toddlers.

Just as dramatic… to a three year old.

What Rules?! : Mixed Metals

Sweater – Cotton Candy   // Skirt – Uncle Phuncle c/o Emerging Thoughts  //  Coat – UO  //  Tights – Hansel From Basel  //  Boots – Feet First  //  Leaf Necklace – I forget  //  Pearl necklace – Ruche  //  Purple Chain – bought in Spain  //  Right Hand Bracelet – F21  // Left Hand Bracelet – made by me

The link up was a bit of a failure.  I think that means you guys just want some inspiration.  Which is totally cool with me!  So I’m going to continue breaking fashion rules, and if you’d like to join me leave your link in the comments and I’ll be sure to check them out.  ‘Cause I love seeing what you do too.

Next week I’m breaking a rule from the 50’s that said you should never wear high heels with cropped pants.  Apparently the connotation was that you were more than a bit promiscuous.  So I’m breakin’ that rule next week before it gets too cold to do so.

Everything Is Malleable

Dress-  Moon Collection via Ruche //  Shirt –  Cotton Candy via Threadsence  //  Boots – Feet First  //  Ring – Spotted moth  //  Bracelet – F21

Nothing is relegated to specific categories in fashion any longer.  Which is why all the ‘rules’ can be broken.  A bridesmaid dress like this one can be worn when running errands around town.  It suits those needs just as well as it suited my needs when I was maid of honor at my best friend’s wedding.
I think that’s part of the reason I’m starting this new link up.  I want us to show each other, to inspire each other, on the magical and fun ways we can break all the fashion rules and look fabulous doing it.  I love seeing what someone else comes up with and having that spark my imagination.
*First rule we’re breaking:  no white after labor day.  So style an outfit, post it anywhere – doesn’t have to be a blog – and come back to link up next Thursday! No follows required.*

On A Steel Horse I Ride

Jacket & Pants – Zara//  Top  – Calvin Klein  //  Boots – Call It Spring  //  Necklace – Threadsence
Leather, or rather pleather, pants are possibly the greatest thing ever.  I love that with modern tech they are stretchy enough for full range of movement.  One day I saw these.  The second I put them on I felt like Bon Jovi about to go out and sing “Wanted Dead or Alive” before heading out on my motorcycle. *’Cause that’s what Bon Jovi always does in my head*  So of course, I was sold.
And here I am breaking more of my own rules by wearing two major pieces of an outfit – jacket and pants – from the same store.  But hey, rules are made to be broken right.  That’s what Bon Jovi and I are all about.

Everyone Needs A Doctor Who Tardis Dress

Dress – Geekyu //  Jacket – Zara  //  Boots – Feet First  //  Necklace – Threadsence
When I saw this Doctor Who Tardis dress it was love at first sight.  A cute, comfy Tardis dress is pretty much a must have for this nerdy girl.  Thank you GeekyU!  They have some pretty cool things.  Honestly, I want one of their Zelda hoodies for Fall.  It’s on my dream wishlist.
In the meantime, this was the perfect dress to wear while promoting my feature film Synchronicity.  The soft scif-fi about time travel is a natural jumping off point to someone commenting about my Tardis dress.  So yes, sometimes my clothing is very strategic.  It also helps that a Tardis dress is just plain awesome!

p.s.  I thought I’d show you one of the pictures that doesn’t usually make it into an outfit post.  But this one had me laughing so hard at myself I just had to share.   I have no idea what I was doing.

Watching Something Grow And Makin’ It Happen

Dress – Guess //Hat – Unknown  //  Sunnies – F21  //  Necklace – ModCloth  //  Shoes – Payless
I’m taking three days off right now to ‘relax’ at a cottage.  Which means, that I’m currently sitting in a cafe on their wifi blogging and doing email work to reply to photo clients, and to download scripts for films and auditions.
But it also means that I get to see my fabulous feature film, entitled Synchronicity,  campaign go live!  It’s a soft sci-fi in the likes of Primer, with a mostly female cast.  I think it’s pretty great that I get to be a part of a film that is about and starring mostly women.  We women need a stronger voice in film.  We need to be the hero and not just be the story that happens to the hero.  So that’s why I’m excited to be producing and starring in this feature film.  I’d love for you to check it out.  And of course, you get to see me wearing a cool bow tie.
