Day Out – Part Two

The wonderful Ms.Tench who watched Baby while Husband and I went out.

We play a very serious game…

Date Day Outfit

Dress – ShopKempt; Sunglasses & Sandals – H&M.

For our date day out, I wore this little number from ShopKempt.  It was the perfect mix of dressy and casual to make the day special but also not to look like I was wearing a prom dress ’round town.  The light cotton material was so breezy and flowy, I felt so cute and girly!  I like florals, but sometimes they get a bit busy for me, which is why I love that this dress keeps the floral pattern in a simple monochromatic color scheme.

And I could eat as much as I wanted without my clothes betraying me – it gave my tummy plenty of room!

In retrospect, I would’ve worn different shoes with it, ’cause these are a bit big and they made me feel a little like Ronald McDonald on occasion.

Day Out – Part One

I didn’t post yesterday, and do you want to know why?  ‘Cause I was out with Husband for the whoooooole day!!  That’s right, thanks to the fabulous Ms. Tench, Husband and I had the whole day to ourselves sans Baby *well, 8 hours but let’s not split hairs*

First we went to one of our favorite restaurants for an early lunch.
Then we went to a used bookstore to browse.  And we bought about four books for Baby! As it turns out she’s always on our minds.
I popped into the bathroom at the mall, and when I came out Husband had disappeared…I knew exactly where to find him.

Anyone want to purchase?
Dessert was so good it was gone in about three minutes.
Some building in our city are so beautiful.

A walk through the park and we headed home….to be continued in Part Two.

Productivity, Without Coffee

Tank – Jacob; Cardi – Smart Set; Shorts & Belt – AE; Boots – somewhere in NYC.

So far today I’ve cooked 2 bags of carrots, 2 butternut squashes, 15 zucchinis, a bag of pears, and a bag of parsnips.  And I’ve managed to squeeze in a 25 minute run.  Just call me ‘Miss Productivity’!

And on no caffeine!

Yup, I’m cooking and freezing and prepping Baby’s food.  She’s mostly eating what we eat, but occasionally we need to supplement her a little with purees.  You see, she likes to feed herself, but since she’s still pretty uncoordinated, not that much foods get in her.  And meals usually take about an hour.  Sometimes she gets really frustrated with the whole process too, so it’s just better to feed her purees in between the mouthfuls she gets in herself.  That way her little dumpling feet stay looking dumpling!

*I’m waiting for the inevitable crash in energy*

Tuesday In Review: Especially For Kids Trendsport Stroller

Here’s my stroller with some stuff in the cup holder and basket.

I’m an urban mom without a car.  So I need a stroller that’s light, durable, narrow and easy to handle.  This one is pretty good at delivering those things at a great price tag!

First, lightness, it’s really very light in terms of weight.  You can easily lift it with one hand while holding baby in the other.  The only thing is that when folded, it’s an awkward shape that’s a little hard to manage getting in and out the door.  I find it easier to just move it open *without baby* and then break it down just before going into a trunk *on the rare occasions that I’m in a car*  But since I don’t have a car and I mostly use it on buses and subways, that’s not a very important feature for me.

This tiny little stroller that feels so light makes you wonder if it won’t fly apart at any moment, but it’s actually quite deceiving.  I’ve put this thing through all the paces – running to catch a bus, bumps, muddy parks, bangs, drops, and lots of other stuff – and it’s held up great throughout.  Everything is very flexible and I think that’s what makes it so durable.

It’s not as easy to handle as some other strollers I’ve seen.  I’ve seen parents jogging with stollers in one hand, talking on the phone and maneuvering the stroller in front of them like a jet plane fighter *in my mind they’re very maneuverable – don’t know whether that’s based on fact*.  This one is not like that.   You can’t use one hand on it – it needs two.  It’s pretty good; I can talk on the phone while on the sidewalk and manage as long as I’m not moving too quickly.  And in terms of pure maneuverability, as long as you use two hands you can twist and turn this thing very easily.  But here’s the thing, this stroller is about half – if not less – the price of those other strollers.  And that is a big selling point to me!

I have to say though that the cup holders are an absolute joke!  There are two cup holders for the adult and one for the baby.  I’ve never used the one for the baby – she gets  a drink while she needs it and then I drop it in the basket.  And the adult holders are really for things like phones and keys.  Don’t put a cup in there!  The construction of this stroller makes it that the tiniest bump sends hot liquid everywhere *luckily there’s a canopy to protect baby*.  To me this isn’t a big deal.  I usually like to sit and enjoy my coffee and not drink on the run.  And I often use it as an excuse to do just that.

The feature that I just love though is how narrow it is.  On the bus and subway I take up hardly any room.  Other strollers look as narrow, but when you look at the wheels they spread and take up a lot of space.  I like that the narrow construction allows me to get on the bus when others can’t *rush hour* and that I show respect to other patrons by not occupying the entire bus.  I like that I can tuck myself and baby into a corner of the train and nobody – us included – is inconvenienced.  This is also true for stores, cafes, and restaurants.  The narrow build lets me get through aisles and corners and crevices easily.  Whether it’s in between clothes racks, or in and around tables to get to the backyard patio, this stroller does a great job or getting us where we want to go.

Some might say that it’s not about others it’s about me, but I like to show respect to my fellow city dwellers, and it makes me feel better to try to accommodate others in a reasonable fashion. To me, that means not having a tank of a stroller. And despite the narrow frame, it’s quite sturdy. It isn’t as sturdy as a tank, but then again I’m not going into war.

So In Between

Rock tank – Mendocino; Cami – Jacob; Leggings – Lululemon; Sandals – Zellers.

This is actually yesterday’s outfit, but I didn’t want to get out of order on what I wore, so I’m posting it now.  I have to say that I’m not a huge fan of the leggings and oversized shirt fad, but this was in part due to the consideration of my wardrobe.  I was wearing the leggings as part of my costume and the little tank underneath allowed me to change anywhere and just whip things off and on.  I’m a big fan of convenience.

Moving on to something that’s on my mind, tell me about your hair.  See I’m growing mine out and it’s in this awkward in between stage that I don’t really relish. Have you ever had to deal with this kind of awkward stage?  What were your experiences?  Email or comment, and share your thoughts.

P.S.  Check out some shots from the photography workshop I took today here.

P.P.S.  I love Duncan Sheik! Anybody get the “So In Between” reference?

I’m A Nerd, What Of It?

Vest – AE; Shirt – F21; Jeans – Guess.

Headed off to a photography workshop today.  Hopefully it’s going to be very educational.  I’m really looking forward to improving my photography.   My dad put my first SLR camera in my hands when I was six, right around the time he taught me to play chess – he was nothing if not ambitious for his daughter.   So it’s been a passion of mine since I was little and I’m really looking forward to learning some more tricks of the trade.

And the outfit?  It’s all nerd, and it’s all me!  I love pairing nerd shirts with vests.  Something about the whole ‘hot nerd’ thing maybe?

Don’t forget to check out my shots from the Posthuman shoot here.

Random Sundays: So Green And Fresh

The Fam and I went for a walk.  It was really pretty out.  So green and fresh!

Just Hangin’ Out

I’ll go to any height to get a shot!

Top – Ruche or Threadsence; Jeans – swapped; Shoes – Payless.

I wanted to wear this top yesterday, but Baby’s fever after her vaccinations changed the plan for the whole day.  Today, she’s back to her trouble-making self and so the clothes fun is back on!

I love how this top looks, but I’m really hopeless when it comes to styling crop tops.  I honestly have no idea how to wear them.  So I’m reaching out to you.  I’d love any and all ideas on how you would wear this top.  Help!

Nearest And Dearest

Hat – Ruche; Dress – F21; Shoes – Payless.

I had a whole outfit planned for today.  But Baby had her first vaccinations yesterday and so now she’s got a full blown fever.  All she does is sleep, lay with me on the couch and drink water.  So, that’s the end of any plans I had.  It’s all about her and comforting her through this time.

She’s napping again right now, so I’m taking this opportunity to post some shots from a few days back *’cause currently I’m wearing shorts and a tank top with spit-up on it*. This dress is actually a little too short for me to wear in public with my head held high, so I’m shortening it into a really fun button up blouse.  I love the pattern waaay too much to give up on it!

You know, I talk a lot about being a Mom and still holding on to fashion and style.  And I mean every word of it!  Fashion is about self expression, creativity, and fun.  It isn’t, however, the nearest and dearest thing to my heart.  So, when my darling is sick, or feverish from shots, it’s about comforting her and loving her.

So peace out all you lovlies!  I’m gonna go be ‘Mama.’
