Tyrion and Goliath

‘Dress’ – Hot&Delicious via Threadsence  //   Sweater – HUH Boutique  //  Pants – Lululemon
Boots – Aldo  //  Necklaces – Ruche

Tall is a relative thing.  Some days I feel about as tall as Tyrion from Game of Thrones, though not nearly as powerful.  Other days, I feel like a massive Goliath towering over people.  Objectively, at 5’6″ I’m neither.  But on days like this where a dress barely covers my rear end and I really consider it a shirt, I definitely feel a bit like an overgrown child’s toy.

Yes, a child’s toy.  It’s appropriate considering my limbs are routinely utilized as a jungle gym, a restraint, and a healer of booboos for one spunky toddler.  Oh and in case you didn’t know, velvet is apparently a perfect surface to rub a runny nose on.  We’re oh so classy over here.

My Own Private Little Nona

It made me so happy to nab the exact faux fur vest I wanted for 50% off at F21.  When I tried it on it immediately made me feel like Nancy Kovak as ‘Nona‘ in Star Trek’s “A Private Little War.”  Though it’s not bright orange, and I’m not nearly as sexy as the seductive ‘Nona,’  I felt a little wilder wearing it.  Also, the complete geek in me loved walking around all day in my own personal little Star Trek world.

True Story:
Baby Girl is currently obsessed with Plants vs. Zombies.
She walks around all day asking for “Zombies!”
So I sit there playing the game on my tablet while she watches, comments, and pushes the screen randomly.
With the occasional, “Watch out!”

Bend But Not Break

Though breezy, flowy skirts and pastels are reminiscent of Spring and the bright sunshine of Summer, I can’t seem to hide them away in a dark corner of my closet when the temperatures drop.  The soft pale material feels so vulnerable in the bitter cold wind, but it does not break, so perhaps there’s a hidden strength in it somewhere.
Or maybe I just like to wax poetic about something that is really a simple sartorial choice.
It’s probably that.
Yes, definitely.

Choo Choo!

Baby Girl loves trains recently.  Obsessed with them – shows, hearing them, seeing them on walks.
And most recently, creating them in the kitchen out of chairs and stools.

CoffeeTalk: My Diet and Exercise

Hey guys,  so today’s vlog is possibly my most straight up one ever.   Not intentionally.  I was so rushed and busy that I didn’t check my other angles and it wasn’t until I went to edit that I realized it was all really, really blurry.  So here’s just the straight up, no strange cut-aways video.

I’m talking about my diet and exercise, in answer to a lovely reader question.

Summary:  Use common sense, get educated, eat well, and move.

An Appropriate Time To Take Your Shoes Off

Jacket – Gap  //  Sweater – Mexx  //  Dress – Love Audrey *get one in Coral from Threadsence
Tights – F21  //  Scarves – street stand  //  Boots – Locale  //  Bag – Ruche
Give me a great dress, a fabulous jacket, and a large bag and I can rule the world.  Not literally of course, but somehow this is the perfect trifecta of sartorial brilliance to make me feel confident with who I am.

This is also the outfit I wore to a recent audition where in the middle of it I took off my boot.  To be fair, it was relevant and part of the scene, but I don’t think they expected me to do it.  Nor to continue the rest of the scene waving my boot around.

I got excellent feedback from that audition and they were “impressed with me.”  That seals it, I’m taking off my boot at every audition from now on.

A Dream In A Costume

Socks – Hue  //  Shoes – Payless
Sometimes getting dressed is like putting on a costume.  It’s a chance to become a different character for the day.  This day I dreamt I was a Parisian woman on a brief respite from studying something profound to a nearby cafe.   Full of whimsy and charm.
Even though in reality I was corralling a toddler and a dog at the local playground.  So really I probably should’ve been wearing a cowboy hat and carrying a rope. But dream we must.

Joie de Vivre

Just so you know, I’m obsessed with jackets lately.  It seems that every shop I visit I’m supernaturally drawn to their jackets.  It’s probably the dropping degrees in the weather that have me reaching for fun outerwear, but then again it might be something else.

Maybe I’m searching for ways to cover up.  Maybe I’m searching for the perfect finishing touches.  Maybe it’s my new Joie de Vivre over the film shoots and auditions and wonderful feedback.

Jackets, as a metaphor for life and the soul.  Who knew I could be so profound?
Certainly, not me.

Maybe jackets are just really cute, end of story.

Don’t Surprise Me Unless…

Top – Only  //  Scarf – ModCloth  //  Jeans – Gap  //  Shoes – Payless
Spent a lazy day bumming around a couple of days ago and am just getting around to posting this now, but yes, you are seeing my Double Braid twist on me up there.
In other news, this little scarf up here was a total surprise. ModCloth has this occasional thing called a Stylish Surprise, where you buy a grad bag essentially.  You choose apparel, accessories or shoes – punch in your size and pay for it.  You have no idea what you’re getting until it arrives.
Now, I’m not one for surprises.  I like surprises if I know what they are ahead of time *yes, I know that defeats the word ‘surprise’*  I figured even if I hate it it’s okay ’cause the accessory grab bag is $5.  So, that’s a bad latte or something. But I was pleasantly surprised.
I also bought a surprise apparel, but I’ll show that to you some other time.  It’s totally not something I would have chosen for myself, but it’s so cute I’m loving it.
So the moral of the story:  First, don’t surprise unless it’s something I’m going to love.  And you’re only going to know if I love if you ask me about it first. And second, you don’t have to ask if the surprise is really, really cute and it’s only $5.  Thirdly,  surprises from Tiffany’s and GC to my favorite stores are always acceptable and, in fact, encouraged.
