Autumn Day

A wet Autumn day. I’m staying inside.

Hair Tutorial: Double Braid Twist

The Long Goodbye

Jacket – F21  //  Sweater – Cotton Candy from Ruche  //  Jeans – Gap  //  Boots – Threadsence  //  Scarf – Urban Outfitters

These pictures are from a few days ago, and I’m sad to say that I’ve lost these boots.  They are peeling now.  The faux leather top layer is literally coming away from the rest of the boot.  So they’re going in the garbage. I’m really sad to see them go especially as they’re only ten months old, but there’s no fixing something like that.

Saying goodbye to a pair of shoes is sort of like saying goodbye to an old friend.   I find that you wear shoes more than certain pieces in your closet, and so there’s a lot of sentimentality attached to that item.  We’ve been through good and bad, and it feels like a kind of betrayal to just toss them out.

But at the same time, they are just an inanimate object and I am probably anthropomorphizing them just a touch too much.

True Story:
Baby Girl is taking a bath, playing, and generally having a great time.
Suddenly she stops, looks at me dead serious and says, “Grandma stinky.  Stiiiiinky.”
I don’t know where that come from, but I bet there’s a story there.

Give Me A Good Cliche

Dress – Blue Pepper from Ruche  //  Necklace, Bracelet, and Earrings – Threadsence  //  Tights – F21  //  Boots – Feet First

There’s something about the combination of brown and blue, especially a really rich tone, that feels just perfect for Fall.  It’s one of those palettes that has just been made for the season.  It’s almost become a cliche just because it looks so right, but hey, I’ve never been one to shy away from a good cliche. They become cliches for a reason.

And I’d rather listen to a good cliche any day over some of the dribble that I hear on a daily basis.  Like the teenage girls on the metro who were talking about not wanting to exercise to get thin because they don’t feel like it, so instead they take diet pills…along with all their other pills.  Sometimes I just want to shake young women, or sit in a corner and cry.  Do you realize what you’re putting into your body?  Do you realize what ideal you’re buying into?

I’ll take a good cliche any day.

 True Story:
Andrew is cooking and Drake the Dog is not more than two inches away from him at all times in the hopes that something will fall, or that he’ll get offered some treat.  Andrew offers him a piece of celery.  Drake takes it walks away and drops it on the floor in distaste.  Baby Girl, who just happens to be sitting right there, picks up the celery without missing a beat.  And pops it into her mouth saying, “Thank you Dwake!” Only time she’s ever eaten celery.

Girls4Sport Review and Giveaway

A while back I was approached by Girls4Sport regarding test driving one of their products.  Girls4Sport is a company that seeks to promote a non-objectified representation of women.  I had a look at their products and decided that considering my intense workout regimen, I could give one of their products a good and thorough workout.

So I got these fun pants!  They’re so comfy, and soft, and they are great for running.  I have run in them a while now *one run is typically 10K* and what I really appreciate is the breathability *not a word, I know* they have.

Usually, when I run my pants tend to get sweat stains as I’m pushing really hard, and by the time I’m done, it’s not a pretty sight!  These didn’t do that.  When I was done, the pants still looked great even though I didn’t.  This is an important factor if, unlike me, you run in public.

I also think that they would be great for yoga as they have a wide range of movement.  But ultimately, it’s the softness of the material that totally wins me over.

Girls4Sport is offering one lucky ModaMama reader a wonderful prize.  Your choice of either a wonderful women’s tank or a child’s board short if you’d rather get something for a little one in your life.  It’s totally up to you what you get!!

DIY Boots

Jacket – Spotted Moth *old*  //  Shirt – Esprit  //  Hat – ??  //  Dress, Tights, Belt, Socks, & Pink Ring – F21  //  Boots – Ruche altered with my own belts and additions  //  Ring – Threadsence  //  Necklace – bought in Spain.
I love new shoes, but the fact is that shoes can cost a lot.  So to change up my shoes and make things look new, I decided to see what would happen if I took some belts and fabric that were lying around and changed my regular ankle boots into something new.  Something a little different.
Andrew makes fun of these, but I love the fact that they’re a little different.
True Story:
Baby Girl opens my nail polish drawer a week ago, and decides to move every single bottle.
I’m getting dressed and just happy for the fact that she’s busy and leaving me in peace.
So she moves all approximately twenty bottles into Andrew’s night stand.
Apparently she’s decided that’s where they belong.
A week later, they’re still there.
I guess he agrees.

Meet Lindsay

Hey guys, meet Lindsay.  She’s the author behind Little Mudpies – it’s a fun blog all about her life and featuring all the fun things she comes up with – recipes, crafts, DIYs.  Really, she’s a whole lot more craftly creative than I can ever be.

She’s one of those blogs that I read and go, “That’s so cool.  I should make that.”  And I never do.  I really wish we were neighbors, so that I could send Baby Girl over there for crafts.

Goodness gracious, doesn’t she have the cutest children ever?  Excluding of course my own Baby Girl.  Sorry, Lindsay, but that’s a mother’s bias.

Anyway, I suggest you stop on over at Little Mudpies and show this lovely lady a little love.  And maybe drool a little over the cool things you see there.  Like, maybe how to answer the door without pants on.

CoffeeTalk: Spicing Things Up!

What do you do when someone asks, “How do you keep things spicy?”
You answer.
Or at least I do.

Making Grace Kelly Proud

Scarf – Urban Outfitters  //  Shirt – Beatrice Holloway from Lulus  //  Jeans – Gap  //  Boots – Chelsea Crew from Threadsence  //  Zebra Necklace – Lustre from Montreal

In photos I can sometimes appear chic and perhaps stylish and put together.  Sometimes I even fancy myself to actually be that.  But really, I’m the girl who rushes out of the bathroom because she’s late for the acting class, slams her finger in the door as is shuts, and plunks her butt down ungracefully on the couch, and then realizes that her fly is undone.

Yup.  Grace Kelly would be proud.

True Story:

Lil S@*t

Sweater – hand me down  //  Belt – F21  //  Skirt – ModCloth  //  Boots – Feet First
It’s starting to be that time of the year.  The one where in the pictures it’s sunny and gorgeous, but the reality is that I rush outside, set up the photo, whip off my coat and pretend to feel just splendid for outfit photos while I shake and freeze.  All with the neighbors watching and heckling.

Yes heckling.
Can’t it be spring already?

True Story:
Drake the dog jumped up and stole a piece of toast left on the ottoman.
I immediately responded, by saying, “Oh you little S@*t!”
From the kitchen I hear a little Baby Girl voice say, “Lil s@*t!”
Guess I really need to watch my mouth.
