…but you can’t take the nerd out of the girl. Clearly, my nerd-dom still rides strong and free. To be fair, no one has as of yet taken the girl out of the nerd either as I took these pictures on the way to my WoD role playing game meet up. That’s like Dungeons & Dragons gaming but in a post apocalyptic world. Yes, I am that big a geek. This is all to say that you just gotta be proud of who you are.
I was in a nice shop and a very well to do lady *at least she looked it* came up to me asking where I got my jeans, because they were just perfect. She had been looking for months for a pair of boyfriend jeans like this. Just where did I get them? Old Navy. On sale. Four years ago. I’m just that luxe and exclusive.
But you guys already knew that, right? You knew that from how infrequently I shop on sale *sarcasm fully intended*. And from how I never admit what things cost because of their astronomical price *$45 for this whole outfit including accessories by the way*
For a period of time, my style was all about minimalism. Black and grey dominated my closet so much it was a bit of a joke among friends. Clearly those days are over. To be fair, they only lasted a handful of years, for prior to that I was all about bold and audacious clothing as well.
In high school I loved wearing things that were unexpected, but uniquely me. I also had a period of time where my style icon was Drew Barrymore from Mad Love. I even got a perm and cut my hair like her. *Nope. No pictures exist from that golden era. Thank Goodness!*
In the last several years I’ve gotten back to that bolder and more unexpected style of dressing. I think it’s because I don’t like being told what to do or how to dress. And I like a little bit of that shock value in clothing that is not quite what you would assume to see.
Maybe I just like rocking the boat a bit.
Maybe more than a bit.

Backless dresses are another secret obsession for me….like kimonos, only that obsession is no secret. I was browsing some online retailer and saw this dress. Immediately in love, I nabbed it on a sale, and loved it even more when I tried it on. The only catch? The arm straps were way too loose and I felt like I was risking a Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction big time. So I hopped on over to the fabric store and found a lovely little pink ribbon to match, sewed that across the back so as to secure the two arm straps to each other and guaranteed that those puppies were not going anywhere….thus ensuring that no one was going to see my puppies. *see what I did there?Puppies, puppies…meaning boobs, get it?*
This was also a fabulous cottage outfit because a) light and breezy as mentioned before, and b) it’s a wrinkly style which means the three hours driving home would only add to it’s allure.
Light, breezy and effortless. Minimalist also comes to mind, as accessories are kept to a minimum. This semi sheer chiffon romper was perfect because I could easily slip the whole thing off and go swimming right away.
At home I would pile some necklaces and other goodies on top of this outfit, but it felt nice to just keep it simple this time.
I was approached by Tanya, who’s a reader and a fan, about trying her fabulous product. She knows I’m all about natural and organic here when it comes to cosmetics, and she thought her product – Beelieve Hydration Balm – would be right up my alley.
She kindly asked me to try it and to send her my thoughts, never asking for a post about it, but I thought I’d share it with you guys because it’s kind of awesome. All the ingredients are natural oils and essentials oils. It’s a balm that’s good for your skin, and your face. The balm has been fabulous for my humidity frizzy hair. It calms and hydrates the frizz and nourishes my strands.
I’ve also been loving it as a skin treatment for my legs and arms. After the sun I find my skin gets dry – combination of sun and sunscreen – so I’ve been slathering it on in the evening after a shower. Feels so great. And my skin drinks it up with love. The smell is really lovely too. Guys honestly, give this a go.
Three hours of driving to a cottage go very quickly when you have someone as conversational and entertaining as my friend Reggy beside me. It felt like a quick breeze. What we arrived to, however, was far less entertaining.
Rain.
That first day it decided to rain pretty much the whole time. It’s fine because us ladies had a ball chatting it up nonetheless. We can always entertain ourselves. But it did make for quick and slightly haphazard shots.
My choice was grainy shots because of darkness and much less rain because of the tree canopy, or risk my camera and go out into the full fall. I chose grainy. I hope y’all understand that the camera comes first.
Before heading out to a cottage for a few days, there are quite a few things that need to get done. Errands, little details you forgot, etc. etc. What better thing for running errands than an incredibly soft tank dress that keeps you cool and relaxed the whole time? I certainly couldn’t think of anything at the time.
