Summer time walks in the park with my girl. Doesn’t get much better!

Often when downtown I look for little nooks and crannies where I can take some interesting shots without too much of an audience. I found this spot tucked away around the corner of an apartment building. Setting up my framing and my tripod, I was just about ready to go, when a security guard came out to investigate. Apparently there are security cameras in that area and I caught their attention. I smiled and explained what I was doing, and the guard simply waved me on and went back inside.
Clearly, a blogger is beyond their concern….and that’s good for me.
This lovely day started with a mama-daughter date for coffee and croissant. You would think that an omen like that would lead to a fabulous day. But alas, thundershowers started in the early evening, and even though I had organized a games night, I was in the basement, solo and on my hands and knees, bailing water.
It was unapologetically flooding! The first friend to arrive on the scene, threw himself into the bailing without hesitation. As the rain subsided, together we managed to get it into some semblance of control. When everyone else arrived, we paused and played games. One can only take so much.
Halfway through, while one game was being packed up, two friends *one of which I had literally just met!* came down to bail some more since during the interim more water had built up. And finally, when the night was being laid to rest, the rains having stopped, we collected the last of the water. Ten buckets during the course of the evening was the final tally.
I left the dehumidifier on for the next two days, dried a carpet out in the sun, and so far nothing else is the worse for wear.
But let me just say, you know who your real friends are by who is willing to get down and dirty to bail some basement water with you.
Walking down an alley, the color of the bricks and the perfect symmetry of the barred windows caught my attention. The inhospitable exterior seemed the perfect contrast to my soft and flowing exterior. Plus, there was still a certain intoxication in the air. The result of both the humid summer heat, and the lingering effects of the heart of World Pride celebrations.
Our great city was just abuzz with World Pride, now we’re headed into Canada Day celebrations, followed by a cottage excursion for me and some girlfriends. Honestly, it’s just one big party week!
What are you all looking forward to?
…when did chasing me around the house to squeeze my boob become the best game ever? To a toddler? Seriously. And when is it going to stop? Just wondering, ’cause you know, I’m lodging a complaint with human resources otherwise.
Sometimes life leads you to discover some really special things. Like a hidden paradise beach I once discovered in the Dominican Republic when I wandered off the beaten track. Or like Kiley’s Purple Hat. It’s a children’s book that will *hopefully* be around soon. The story revolves around a little girl who lets her artistic spirit reign. She draws a picture and is so inspired that she decides to make the beautiful hat she drew, with some help from her Mother.
It’s a beautiful story that encourages children to be who they are, and gently reminds parents that spending time together is the most precious thing you could do. The book itself is handmade with a fabric cover that brings to life the purple hat in the story. It’s not your average book, but meant to be an heirloom that stays in families and creates memories of its own.
The kickstarter campaign has only seven more days to go, and I can’t encourage you enough to go watch the video and see for yourself what Kiley’s Purple Hat is all about before it’s too late. I’m sure you’ll fall in love with it just as much as me.
The only problem, I know that the second I read this to my girl, she gonna want to read it again.
And make a hat….
This dress is such a departure from my usual style. It’s very schoolgirl prep compared to my regular more boho flair, but when I bought it last year ago I could not have loved it more. It’s partly due to the soft silky material, and partly due to the ’60s shift look of it that makes me feel like I’m as effortlessly cool as Twiggy.
Though, I think the nerdy Game of Thrones necklace and the fact that one side of my collar is popping up ruins that…
