Knowing what drives you to shop is important because it helps to identify what you enjoy and what you don’t.
In examining the things that drive you to buy things, we’re forced to look at the things that give us pleasure. And let’s face it, we’re not going to do anything unless it gives us some sort of pleasure.
So whether it’s that you lack connection, have an interest that you’ve been putting off, or just need a little rest – really looking at why you buy the things you buy will give an insight into what brings pleasure, what brings enjoyment.
Ex. A woman I know would shop a lot. Credit card debt was piling up. But why was she really shopping? Because dating was not going well. Somehow she would have a lot of short term relationships that didn’t go anywhere and the thing that was missing was genuine connection. It was not a fun thing to face. But stopping that behavior, and accepting her loneliness was uncomfortable in the short term. But it motivated her to go out and do things that she enjoyed to meet people. And to actually look at online dating sites and make more conscious selections. And let’s face it, that brings more ultimate pleasure. And yes, I do mean the thing you think I mean.
