“Many of us refuse to see the person standing before us (including ourselves) for who they really are. Instead, we seek the thrill, glamour, and false comfort produced by fantasies, hoping that this new person will be the one we have been searching for.” Zen and the Art of Falling in Love

Basically, see who’s sharing your life with you, see yourself. Have no delusions about who you want them to be, just see who they are. And either accept that, love it, and work with it.
Or move the fuck on.  Blunt, but true.

But deluding yourself with fantasies or the fleeting thrills in someone new and imagined are useless and just that: delusions. Temporary bandaids, and you’ll forever be chasing the next high.
