Dress 67: So Far Today’s A Really Nice Day

Sweater – made by my Babcia; Dress – bought in Valencia, Spain; Belt – AE; Boots – Ruche; Earrings – F21

I’m sitting here finishing my coffee as the sun streams in through the windows.  Don’t let that fool you, it’s cold.

Today, I’ve had a chance to edit photos and finish an episode of Criminal Minds.  So yeah, I’m having a nice morning.

I thought I’d post these outfit shots that I promised you yesterday.

More road trip posts to come!

Dress 65: Why Don’t We All Just Relax?

Baby was making funny faces at me off camera and it cracked me up!  Oh, and if you follow me on facebook, this is the dress that got me weird looks on the bus…I still don’t know why.

Cardi – Old Navy; Belt – AE; Dress – Guess; Boots – Ruche; Ring – Spotted Moth

I don’t usually comment on certain private events, but something has been on my mind of late.  I know this woman as an acquaintance *we run in vaguely overlapping social circles* and, since we know similar people, we were facebook ‘friends.’  Now this woman is a lovely person, but she has a tendency to say outrageous and sometimes offensive remarks/status updates.  Normally this is fine.  I’m not one to censor anyone.  Everyone has a right to say what they think regardless of what I may personally feel on the subject.  But it is not necessarily everyone’s right for me to listen to them.

Anyway, as every new Mom knows, the first four months of your baby’s life are rough on you mentally, physically, emotionally, and relationally.  I was going through this upheaval and isolation of new motherhood and used facebook to connect with friends and escape a little over my morning coffee.  I needed the respite from the turmoil and chaos that was the transition time.

During this fragile time, her outrageous and meant-to-be-entertaining remarks would make me really upset.  Though they were not directed at me, I was hurt by them.  So rather than say something that wasn’t my right to say, I simply ‘unfriended’ her.  Not too long ago we ran into each other at a social function, and she was rather cold – barely saying ‘hello’ and not making any eye contact.

Why  do I mention this?

Well, simply because I think we could all show a little more compassion to one another.  I think we could all benefit from watching what we say, and from taking things a little too personally.  Also, I think there is so much drama in the world already, that there really is no need to create more in our personal lives.

Live and let live.

True Story:  It still amazes me that I grew this beautiful little creature that is currently destroying my DVDs.

Dress 60: Always Be Prepared

Take One:  Cardi – F21; Belt – AE; Dress F21; Shoes – Payless

Take Two:  Shirt – thrifted

Today I styled two different outfits for the next dress in my challenge.  Why, you may ask?  Well, Baby’s still sick.  That means that I end up with puke, spit-up, or poo on my clothes at some point…and then I need to change.  Normally, spit-up is not a big deal, but all this stuff is extra gross since she’s sick.  So it’s better for both of us if I get it off me as soon as possible.

On another note, I’m really liking maxi dresses right now.  Can’t wait to wear more!

Husband liked styling number 2 more.  You?

Dress 58: How Do You Leave Your Sick Child?

Heading out to a shoot.

Dress – Bershka

Boots – Aldo
Jacket – ?; Shirt – Smart Set; Sunglasses – F21

Hey guys, I’ll have a Randomd Sundays post for you later on today.  But for now, I thought I’d post some pics of the dress I wore yesterday.  I wore it to go shoot a film in Hamilton. *you can read about that here*  I felt bad about going since Baby is sick and had a ridiculously high fever yesterday, but it’s not like I could cancel.  So it was a bittersweet day, since I love working, but I couldn’t bear to leave my sick Baby Girl at home. *On a side note, her fever broke in the wee small hours last night and she’s doing better.  Still sick, but better*

This dress was a purchase from Bershka in Spain.  I have to say I love that store.  It’s so affordable, but really fun and trendy.  Stradivarius, and Bershka were my favorite stores to shop at in Europe.  I went into everyone that I saw.  Husband got really sick of it, but he was a good sport and let me do my thing.  Thanks Honey!

Trash, stash, or save?  Save!!

P.S.  The shots were taken on the GO train from and sorry they’re not better, but I did the best I could under the circumstances.

Dress 46: Casual Coffee

Sweater – Gap; Scarf – Jacob; Dress – ??

This is my version of a jeans and t-shirt/sweater day – casual and easy.  I know I’ve been giving you a lot of casual outfits, and what can I tell ya, I’m a casual girl.  *Not in that sense! Get your mind out of the gutter!* I’ve also had a rough night and a rough morning, so I needed the bright color to pep me up…at least a little.

And I’m surviving an emergency right now.
*Pause for dramatic effect*
There’s no coffee in house!
NOOOooooooooooo!
Thank goodness I have a good friend who’s bringing me coffee right now.
Seriously.
She’s on the bus right now.

P.S.  My battery died so these pics were taken with my older and crappier camera…sorry.  You’ll forgive me woncha?

Dress 45: What Do You Wear When No One’s Looking?

Shirt – Smart Set; Dress & Sunglasses – F21; Scarf – Thrifted; Jacket – Jacob; Bag – Matt by Matt&Nat
A close-up of the dress without the fixin’s

What do you wear when no one’s looking?  Do you resort to sweatpants, jeans, lulus? Do you walk around in the buck?  *That’s also a style choice, albeit a chilly one*  It’s a question I’ve been thinking about since I spend much of my day with an eight month old, working from home, and random strangers I see while running errands who couldn’t care less about what I wear.  Husband couldn’t care less what I wear, in fact he’d prefer if I opted for the chilly option above. *boys!* But I’ve come to the conclusion that I need to dress for myself – even if no one is looking.  Even if the day’s big events are a trip out to buy hangers and read my blogs on the net.

Plus *and this is in addition to the above* we need to dress for our spouse a little too.  I saw a documentary about a Muslim woman and she said she covers herself in public in part because she saves her beauty for her husband.  I like that notion.  When we’re at home, all too often we get sloppy.  We put no effort into how we look for our partners.  Yes, there are PJ days.  Yes, there are frumpy days.  Yes, it’s still about casual and comfortable around the house.  No, I’m not saying get out the Tux.  I am saying to put a little effort into staying attractive….that goes for both partners.  Equally.

Dress 33: Showing Some Skin, Starting With My Face

I love that it’s finally warm enough to bring out the leather jacket.

Can’t get enough of the sunshine.
Jacket – don’t recall (no label); Dress – F21; Shirts – Smart Set; Boots – Aldo.

I don’t usually wear this dress.  It’s one of those that tends to sit around in my closet.  I love the embroidery detail, but I’m not too crazy about the full, flouncy and shimmery skirt on me.  But I kind of like pairing a very feminine dress/skirt/top with something very masculine, in this case the leather jacket and cowboy booties. What do you think?  Trash, stash, or save?  And if your answer is save, I’d love suggestions on how you would style it.  Thanks!  You guys rock!

Today is Friday…which really has no meaning for me since I work freelance as does Husband.  So days of the week are kind of devoid of the traditional meaning.  Usually though, weekends are busy as that’s when many conferences and indie film shoots happen.  But this weekend is surprisingly easy-breezy.  So perhaps, we’ll take advantage of the weather to go for nice walks with Baby and Drake the Dog.  I’m excited about the warmer weather.  I’m tired of the many layers and happy to show some skin to the sun!

By the way, in case you’re wondering, I’m finding not shopping very hard to do.  When I was downtown yesterday it took all my effort to not go into my favorite stores.  I just couldn’t look at stuff and be tempted.  Right now my will is too weak for that.  I’m hoping that as things get easier, I’ll go in for inspiration.

True Story:  I realized after taking these shots that I totally forgot to put on make-up.  Whatever, you guys get to see everything I guess.  And on that note, I need new mascara. Recommendations?

Dress 16: Pardon Me While I Babble On Way Too Long…

Pigtails : a great way to avoid doing your hair.

Drake the Dog is such a media hog.  He has to be in every photo!

Dress – vendor in Lagos, Portugal; Sweater – Zara; Belt – AE; Boots – F21.

This morning Husband took Baby after breakfast and I got a run!  I ran for a full hour – just over 6 miles. It felt wonderful!.  Having been sick the past couple of weeks, I haven’t been able to go full out – if I’ve been able to run at all. But today felt glorious!  I have to admit, I’m a bit of a workout junkie.  I love the high and I love challenging and pushing myself.  Plus, running and physical exercise help me to release emotion, focus my thoughts, and keep me sane (that and well…chocolate, a good scotch/wine, laughs with my girlfriends, and a greasy spoon breakfast).

Since having Baby, I’m not able to do a lot of physical things.  It’s one of the changes/challenges that I’ve had to adjust to.  But Husband is really good in understanding and he doesn’t kick up too much of a fuss when I ask him to take care of her.
So, that’s me.
Whether you have a baby or not, how do you stay sane?

I don’t know about you, but I didn’t feel like doing my hair or make-up this morning (so really, today’s no different from any other day).  I just wanted to get my hair out of the way.  We all do it ladies – shove our hair in a ponytail and just forget about it.  It gets old, am I right? Lately I’ve been flipping through mags and found stylish models who have their hair in pigtails or braid(s).  It looks so chic, effortless, and like you’re totally above it all but still really cool!  Yes, please! Now I’m not saying that I’m particularily successful at the “stylish pigtail”, I’m just saying it’s possible.

Picturesque Lagos, Portugal.

One of my favorite memories. ( I had a cane because of an injury).

I’m always reminded of eating sorbet in Lagos when I wear this dress (that’s where I bought it).  I loved Lagos.  So beautiful and picturesque. I’m not so crazy about the dress, however, because the top is too big.  But I love the pattern, and I think if I altered it into a skirt it would be fabulous.  What do you think?  Alter? Trash, stash, or save?
