When you’re freelance there’s no such thing as holiday weekends. Okay, that’s not true there are…and we here at Chez Haughton are often excited about them because it usually means work and sometimes means time and a half! For example: Saturday I did a half day shoot for a web series, and Monday evening I hosted Movieola. Andrew? Well, he worked on Sunday and then worked on a video game project on Monday (he does the music). So yeah, that was our long weekend. But don’t feel sorry for us…it means that most weekdays we get to go out and enjoy the sunshine while others sit in their cubicle. Sorry, hope you don’t hate me too much right now.
Sharing. Sharing something here. We all struggle with something when it comes to our appearance right? Double chins, bellies, thicker then desired thighs – everyone’s got something. So here’s mine – I struggle with adult acne. Who the heck knew that at my semi-advanced age I would have to be dealing with the same crap a 15 year old, hormone raging, teenager does? Certainly not me. What’s more, is that I work in an industry that is so appearance centric I can’t not think about it all the time! Sitting in an audition room surrounded by beautiful women with clear skin, I pray that my acting skills will get me through and that the MUA on set will be talented. True, I could do something like take the pill to help clear it up, but I don’t like to put those hormones in my body, and yes make-up – covers it up, but the fact is I know it’s there and I don’t want to have to wear make-up.
And it eats away at my self-confidence. I know it shouldn’t. I’m more than my skin, I know I shouldn’t complain because there are people in the world who are truly suffering, I have more worth….etc. etc. ….I know all this. Tears are spilt, and it sucks. Thank you. Carry on. I promise I won’t sulk too much. Like I said, we all have something, right? Have a great Monday!
Sitting in the backyard, the golden setting sun warm on my shoulder and my legs tucked up underneath me, I sip my cold, crisp white wine. My husband is mowing the lawn while my baby girl squeals as she chases the dog who’s running for his dear life in fear of sticky fingers clutching his ears. Right now, right here life is good.
p.s. have you entered the giveaway? There’s still two days left!
p.p.s. I’m talking photoshoots today on Mom 2 MemphisAnd Ruby. Check it out.
We’re in the middle of Blog Positivity week and I can’t express how much I appreciate the relationships I’ve formed with some amazing people online. Like Lauren from Emerging Thoughts. She’s a wonderful lady with a great eye for curating her boutique, and a great personality all around. I’ve never met her in person, only online. Through blogs and social media, I’ve made connections with bloggers, retailers and just great people all around.
I’d like to thank you all.

Had a callback for a film. It was a little weird, but hey they didn’t ask me to do anything compromising so whatever. Hopefully I get it. It’s a feature length film, and it would be really nice to get onto a set for a longer duration. So fingers and toes crossed.
And when I got home, not only was there dinner waiting for me. But! There were also homemade chocolate chip cookies cooling on the counter. Oh yeah. Now that’s a man who knows how to get to a woman’s heart.
Well, diamonds work too.
So yesterday I mentioned the challenge of dressing for cool mornings and hot afternoons. The shedding of layers meant that by the time we headed out for a sunset walk I was down to just a dress, hat and large sunnies.
It’s so great now that Baby is getting really good at walking because that means we all head out together and watch her waddle down the gravel path, picking things up and talking the whole way.
Her favorite part is when we get to the bridge and big rock where she gets her first look of all the ducks and Canade Geese on the pond.
My Father-In-Law is usually very proper, but sometimes he busts out some hilarious faces. This shot was nabbed by Husband, and though out of focus, it’s one of my favs!
You can hear Baby yelling “Qua! Qua!” all throughout the walk! And she makes sure that everyone knows exactly what they are…just in case you were wondering.
While there, we witnessed a huge flock of geese landing on the pond.

Summer has returned for one last blast with a tremendous heat wave. I must confess that though I relish the warmth, I could easily pass on the humidity. So it’s back to the summer essentials – large hat and sunglasses. And I don’t know about you but my skin seems to really be breaking out during this transition time from summer to fall. Are you experiencing that? Well, since I’m trying to move from chemical to natural cosmetics, I’m looking for a good oil to use on my face. Suggestions?
To help alleviate the heat, we all headed to the splash pad, and Baby once again got a spray of water in her face. She never learns. But it’s sooo cute!

We’re enjoying the last days of summer here. Who knows how long they’ll stick around. It could be a week or another few months. We’ll see. I love summer. I really do. And I’m going to be very sad to see it go. But I know that it must go at some point, so I’m trying to reconcile myself to that by thinking about the good things ahead. I’m really looking forward to chunky knit sweaters, and warm scarves. I’m also looking forward to a potty trained baby. That happens at 15 months right?
