Dress 55: S&M Facials Anyone?

Sweater – H&M; Dress – Coco & Tashi; Belt – thrifted; Leggings – F21

Close up of my lovely thrifted belt.

Last night I went to sleep in spring and woke up in full blown winter.  There is a snowstorm raging outside my window and I’m in a crabby mood.  My mood is not a direct result of the weather, it’s only exacerbated by this freak snowstorm.  I got some unpleasant news yesterday, and am all in flux as a result.  Suffice it to say that times, they are a changin’.

Therefore, I decided to use a certificate I’ve had stashed in my desk and went to get a facial.  It relaxed me, but I was weirded out a little.  The woman pulled my hair (intentionally as part of the “massage” and a little too roughly) and then smacked my face a few times (not too hard, but enough, you know?).  I was so confused!  I didn’t ask for an S&M facial!  Note to self, “Self, do not go back there!”

Needless to say that facial did not raise my spirits.

Hope you like the dress – I’m keeping it because it always makes me happy!

But right now I’m taking my own advice *if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all*
I’m signing off.
Good night.
See y’all tomorrow.

Dress 53: Dots! Dots! Dots!

My street on the way to work was very dreary.
Dress – Ruche; Tights – Hue
Earrings – F21; I love the chiffon detail on this dress.
Cardi – Old Navy.

I love polka dots!  I don’t think there’s a polka dot that I haven’t liked.  I see it and I am irressistibly drawn to it like a moth to a flame.  And when I saw this dress on special at Ruche, I couldn’t resist adding it to my arsenal.  It’s comfortable and I love the chiffon detailing around the neckline.  I think it’s such a fun spring print too.  Polka dots are never out of style!  *at least in my head*  Trash, stash, or save?  Oh, save for sure!

True Story: I’m a little sad today.  Baby is moving out of our room and into her room.  So I’m going through a little pre-emptive seperation anxiety.  I’m going to miss her so much, but I know it’s for her own good.  She’s got to learn to sleep by herself in her won room.  Hopefully, she’ll sleep better too.

Dress 52: Sometimes You Shoot And Miss

Sweater – C’est Moi; Dress – Lush; Scarf & Belt – Thrifted; Leggings – F21; Boots – NYC

I wore this a bit ago but haven’t had a chance to post.  As you can see there is snow in this picture, and I’m glad to say that there has been none for two days.  I didn’t want to post this because I’m not happy with the outfit, but I figured that since I wore it I should own up to it.  So here it is.  This is a miss, but hey, we all make outfit mistakes.

True Story:  Baby takes Drake the Dog’s toys and intentionally teases him with them by smacking him in the head.  He just sits there with his puppy eyes and takes it.  The poor dog!

Happy Saturday!

Dress 47: Star Wars

My New Tank-top!!
Sweater – H&M; Dress – Urban Outfitters; Tank & Leggings – F21; Boots – Somewhere in NYC

Okay.
Yeah.
Laugh it up chuckles.
I’m a nerd.
I never hid that from you.
In fact, I’ve been completely upfront about it.
I do own a monstrous Sci-Fi DVD collection.
So What?
*Crosses arms and sticks out tongue*
Sorry, I’m really caffeinated right now.  I shot Movieola Shorts last night *you can read about it here* and didn’t get a lot of sleep.  Then I worked on air this morning as well.
Hence the need for coffee.
Moving on.
Remember when I said that I would not shop and the rules of that?  Well, I followed them so far.  *Standing proud*  And I followed them when I recently saw this tank-top on the Forever 21 website.  I had to have it, and I would’ve used the “allowed to break the rules twice” stipulation to get it, but I just happened to have a gift card.  Yay!  The tank-top was at my doorstep in 48 hours.  Once here, I had to wear it.  So I paired it with this knit dress I picked up.  It’s the last of the plain knit dresses in my closet.  So I was saving it to wear it with something special, and this tank was it.   I have serious trouble resisting any and all nerd shirts…especially any that have to do with Star Trek, Star Wars, or BSG.  So if you know of any…send them my way.  Just kidding.  Well, no I’m not..not really.
I think the dress is a save, if only because I can wear it with so many other things. What do you think?

Dress 42: Sm-Attention

My dress swiiiirls!

Cardi – H&M; Dress – Zara; Tights – Hue;Boots – somewhere in NYC.

This dress was a sale purchase at Zara a while ago.  It’s a statement dress, but I’m really liking it.  I didn’t used to wear it much because I thought the pattern a little too loud for me and I didn’t fancy the attention.  But now I’m a little more nonchalant about it.  I figure, “I like it, so I’ll wear it.  Attention, sm-attention.” Trash, stash, or save?  One friend told me today that this dress is a ‘save.”  I think I’ll take her advice.

True Story:  Baby and another baby boy sat next to one another and stared at each other completely fascinated.  Then they both reach for different toys, but in such a way that it looked like they were about to kiss.  They were both surprised so they stopped moving and looked at each other – heads tilted just so.  It looked like a moment out of a movie where the two people lean in to kiss but aren’t sure whether they will.  Hilarious!  And of course, us Moms were laughing and silly about it.  In the end they didn’t kiss…good thing.  She’s a little young for that don’t you think?  Don’t go gettin’ any ideas, Missy!

Dress 41: Puttering About The House

Sweater – Gap; Shirt -thrifted; Dress – Old Navy; Leggings – F21

how do you wear a tube dress when it’s -12 outside?  Put a t-shirt under it, and a cardi over it.  Plus, I didn’t have to think too hard since I was hanging out with Baby all day today; Husband’s at work.  We’re not independently wealthy yet, you know. So this is the outfit/dress I choose to spend the day puttering around the house in.  So?  Trash, stash, or save?  I’m not sure where I stand on this one.  So I need your help.  Am I too old for a flowery tube dress????  Seriously.

And, I’ll share a secret with you. *though you can probably tell* Ready?  I’m not wearing make-up.  Nope.  None at all.  Couldn’t be bothered.
True Story: I’m afraid that Baby’s security blanket will turn out to be my fuzzy fleece PJs.  She loves them!  She nuzzles right in sucking her thumb.  *sigh* There she goes stealing my clothes already.

Dress 40: Eat, Drink, And Be Merry For Tomorrow The Dress Dies

Sweater – made by Babcia; Dress – Pink Martini; Belt – AE; Leggings – F21; Boots – Feet First

It’s the first of March!   Spring is literally just around the corner.  And I can not wait! The sun is out and I wanted to wear something light and bright.

You can’t see the detail on this little number as it’s covered by the sweater *I really must remember to take better detail shots* but it’s got little buttons and embroidery on it. It’s a soft jersey knit dress and I consider myself brave to wear it when I’m around Baby all day.  I’m a little nervous that by the end of the day it will be stained, but I live life on the edge.  And you know, we can’t be afraid to wear the clothes we really like just because we’re afraid they’ll get dirty or ruined.  Under that logic, our favorite pieces will stay in the closet unworn. That’s no way to dress.  That’s no way to live either.

I know.
I’m deep.
hee, hee…

Trash, stash, or save? I think I’m voting ‘save’ and I’ll just keep wearing it bravely until the day that it dies a noble death.

True Story:  Baby fought her way over obstacles and across the whole bed just so she could cuddle with my PJs and suck her thumb.  Awwww….

Dress 39: Lose Yourself In Girly Stuff

Dress without the sweater…yes it’s cold.

Sweater – Esprit; Dress – Ruche; Leggings and Boots – F21

Monday!  Yes, I know most people don’t like Mondays.  But I do, and here’s why:  it’s the day I go to work.  Yes, I know that’s why most people don’t like Mondays.  But see, I’m on maternity leave and spend most of my time with Baby; so this is my day to get out and be me.  Plus, I really like my job.  So, yeah I get excited to go to work.

I’m sitting here at work, on a break and writing this as we speak.  I’m joined tonight by the lovely Olivia and we’re being silly together.  We’re talking about haircuts, and dresses and shopping like it’s the conflict in Libya – we’re such girls!  I know.  But sometimes we all need to be silly.

But one thing we were discussing was how much this blog has helped me as a new Mom.  Instead of getting lost in Baby and resorting to sweatpants and hoodies, I’m forced by you lovely folks to get dressed and at least make an attempt at looking good.  It gets me outside of feeling like a piece of milk meat revolving around Baby, and gets me feeling like a woman.  It’s hard not to lose yourself after a Baby, but I think it’s important to be selfish sometimes and think about what makes you feel like you.  I know I’m a much better mother for it. I’m a better wife for it.  And I’m a better me for it.

Tempestuously Foul

Must say, I’m in love with this cardigan!
Husband makes fun of my sticky-out ears…but I know he secretly loves them!

Love the etched detailing on the belt.
Cardigan – Anthropologie; Shirt – Smart Set; Belt – AE; Jeans – Guess; Earrings – Indie store in Santorini.

I was in a foul mood when I got dressed yesterday.  Why?  Because I’m not a fan of Valentine’s Day.  Sometimes I try to psyche myself out by pretending I like it, hoping that fiction will become fact, but I really don’t.  I disagree with the manufactured romance…like you have to show your love just once a year.  I think Valentine’s should be at least once a week, you know?  If you love someone show them more than once a year on a forced holiday.  That’s my rant.  It’s over.

But that’s also why I’m not wearing a dress.  If I’m in a bad mood, I gaurantee that I’ll put on pants.  I can’t deal with wearing a skirt or dress; I don’t know why.  But that’s not to say that if I’m wearing pants, I’m in a bad mood.  Make sense?

Once I got to work and had chocolate, Olivia (the lovely camera person) and I got silly.  We were giggling non-stop and watching bad-for-you tv, and eating chocolate…well at least I was.  So if you watched last night, you saw me being silly on live-tv.  Yeah, that’s how I get sometimes.

Oh, and I treated myself to a cab home because it was soooo cold too!  So I got home lickety-split and tucked myself into bed.  This morning I’ve started off in a considerably better mood.  Yay!  I’ll hopefully have a dress for you soon!

Dress 27: Don’t Let The Sunshine In These Photos Fool You

I managed to wear a neckalce around Baby for a total of three hours!!
Cardigan – H&M; Shirt – Smart Set; Dress – Esprit; Leggings – F21; Socks – MacGregor; Boots – somewhere in NYC; Necklace – from the Dominican Republic.

First off, thank you to everyone who emailed me or commented with their suggestions on how to resist temptation.  You’ve all certainly given me quite a few great ideas.  Hopefully, they’ll get me through the next 322 days.

Second, I’ve styled this dress before but what I like about it is that it’s so easy to style in a variety of different ways.  I think a good denim dress is one of those staples of a wardrobe, you know?  So trash, stash, or save?  I’m thinkin’ save.  You?

And I know you’ve all seen these boots for the past few days, but let me explain something.  It’s winter in Toronto, after a big snowstorm and it’s -23 outside.  This means that there are dangerous patches of ice on the sidewalk (means no heels), lots of slush from the salt (means no suede/fabric), and of course the aforementioned salt (means leave your favorite shoes at home if you want them to last more than a couple of months).  So, I’ve been wearing my cheapy boots.  And yes, I could wear cheapy shoes, but did I mention that it’s -23 outside?  Every bit of extra coverage helps!

Random Happening: Husband was convinced that Baby said his name today…it eas really just coincidental babbling…ssshh, don’t tell him that.
