Self-Delusions and Dreams For Days

Dress – Ruche   //  Necklace – Threadsence  //  Shoes & Sunnies – F21
Hot, sunny, and busy.  My favorite season.  I’ve been on set for a film the last few days,  you can read about that on my acting site, and it’s been wonderful getting a bit more physical in a role.  Exactly what I’ve wanted.  Just wanted to explain my sudden silence.  Despite my self-delusions I apparently can’t do it all – all the time.
On certain days when it’s warm outside and there’s a dream like romantic feeling hanging on my shoulders,  I reach for a floral chiffon dress in a classic cut.  I have two dresses that fulfill this requirement perfectly, this being one of them, and it’s nice to have to option to indulge in a soft romantic fantasy for a day.  Or two.

Bare Naked

Shirt & Sunnies – F21 // Jeans – Gap  //  Booties – Walmart  //  Jewelry & Bag – Threadsence

This particular morning I was headed to set.  So that means nothing done.  No hair. No make up.  I had straightened my hair a few days back, so I just kept that as it was when I woke up, and all I did was put on moisturizer.

Normally I do something.  Put on some concealer, and mascara at least.  But nope.  You have to have a fresh face for the artists to do their work of turning you into your character.  Hence, washed and undone I went forth.

At least Han Solo added a bit of swagger to my step.

Dress For Your Girl

Dress & Bag – H&M //Shoes – I forget  //  Rings – F21  //  Earrings – very old, don’t remember where from
One of my girlfriends was having a birthday party at a fun bar.  There was going to be a great bunch of artists hanging out and having a wonderful night, and I didn’t want to miss the chance to celebrate the birth of one awesome lady.
I thought about how we dress up for for boyfriends and for husbands, but I don’t think we dress up enough for our girlfriends.  They’re the ladies who are with us through ups and downs, and through all those boyfriends *and sometimes husbands* I think they deserve our effort to look our very best for them on their nights.
So I made sure I put in effort for my girl, Vee.  I even wore heels.  Now that’s true friendship, am I right?

One of the ModaMama sponsors Ever.Mi Crush is having a huge sale.  You should totally check it out.

Giddy About Atterley Road

Sweater, Bracelet, and Necklace – c/o Atterley Road  //  Top – Zara  //  Shorts & Sunnies – F21  //  Shoes – Payless
The fabulous and chic Atterley Road has opened a US online store.  This shop has some drool worthy pieces, and I spent a long, long time choosing what I would like to feature here.
The Fairisle Stitch Cardi Coat seemed like a natural choice since I can wear it now on cooler evenings, and it’ll be a great mix and match piece in the Fall and Winter.  It’s a piece on its own, but I love that the neutral palette make it an easy piece to pair with other patterns and colors.  I can see this warm and chunky layer being around for many seasons.  It’s timeless and still unique.  Plus, it’s a great sweater to curl up in on cold nights. But I don’t want to really think about that just yet!
And the jewelry!  Oh my.  I chose the Multi Spike Bracelet because it’s just so freakin’ cool.  It made me think of a really chic Mad Max movie – spiked but super glam at the same time.  That’s a thing right?
While perusing the site, I found a new company that Atterley Road stocks – Made.  The pieces are made in Kenya in and environmental and socially conscious fashion.  What better way to stay chic than to support companies with a mantra like this?  And the jewelry is really beautiful.  This necklace in fact attracted me because of it’s simple interest.  Not too much, but still fascinating to look at.  It’s one of those timeless things you’ll wear for years.  Or at least I will.
That’s what I like most about Atterley Road I think:  the items are unique and still timeless so that you will find yourself reaching for them again and again for years. As you can tell, I’m a bit excited by this new shop.

Haircut, Manicure, I’m a New Woman

Dress -bought in Spain  //  Daenerys Targaryen Necklace – Etsy  //  Shoes – Payless
Finally got my straggly hair into the salon and got a trim and some shaping up.  Jon at Evoke Salon in Toronto takes good care of me.  He seems to instinctively understand that I like classic and not too trendy.

He did suggest a more blunt initial layer, and I like it.  It’s a nice subtle change to my staple look. Though I think it’s too bangy *too much like growing out bangs* for me to keep it long term. Probably gonna grow it out and stick to less blunt layers.  Sorry Jon, I am pretty boring when it comes to my cut.  But I’m having fun playing with it right now.

With the two films I’m shooting this month I needed to get my hair camera ready.  Can’t look too shaggy onscreen right?

It was a great day of shaping things up.  Got some maintenance done, including a manicure, and this haircut.   It made me feel like a new woman.  It’s good to pamper yourself a bit sometimes.

Gotta remember that.

My Husband’s Idea Of Fashion Photos

Some of you have asked  how I take my photos.  The answer is simple.  I use a tripod and remote control 97% of the time.  There is however that 3% of the time where I get Andrew to do it.  And this is how that goes…

I tell Andrew to stand where I intend to stand.  Configure my settings so that it’s lit the way I want it to be, and frame it up the way I want the photo to look and take a picture to show him what to copy  Then I make him notice where he and I are standing.  We trade places, he looks at the photo I took and copies the exact same framing…most of the time.

But when I take that example photo to show him how I want the picture to look he usually does something ‘cool’ *as in, he thinks it’s cool*  So I thought I’d share some of those pictures with you today.

Hindsight Is 20/20

Top – H&M  //  Pants & Sunnies – F21  //  Necklace and Bracelet – gift from Poland
Sometimes things don’t go the way you were thinking, but then with hindsight you can’t see them going any other way.  There are some projects I auditioned for that I didn’t get, and was really bummed about, but then months later while working on new and exciting ones I realize that if I had booked that other gig I wouldn’t be having the amazing experience I am now.

I’m one of those people who likes to think that everything happens for a reason, but has severe trouble accepting or believing it in the moment of a harsh disappointment.  It isn’t until later, with hindsight that I realize the path.  I need to get better at really believing it at the time.

Everyone Needs A Doctor Who Tardis Dress

Dress – Geekyu //  Jacket – Zara  //  Boots – Feet First  //  Necklace – Threadsence
When I saw this Doctor Who Tardis dress it was love at first sight.  A cute, comfy Tardis dress is pretty much a must have for this nerdy girl.  Thank you GeekyU!  They have some pretty cool things.  Honestly, I want one of their Zelda hoodies for Fall.  It’s on my dream wishlist.
In the meantime, this was the perfect dress to wear while promoting my feature film Synchronicity.  The soft scif-fi about time travel is a natural jumping off point to someone commenting about my Tardis dress.  So yes, sometimes my clothing is very strategic.  It also helps that a Tardis dress is just plain awesome!

p.s.  I thought I’d show you one of the pictures that doesn’t usually make it into an outfit post.  But this one had me laughing so hard at myself I just had to share.   I have no idea what I was doing.

Unecessarily Long Story Of One Dress

Dress -Evil Twin via Threadsence  //  Boots – Feet First  //  Sunnies – F21
Once upon a time I was perusing the internet fashion shops again and a saw a dress.  It was fascinating.  It wasn’t cute, or sexy, or beautiful, or sweet.  It didn’t grab me in any of those ways.  It sparked my curiosity and my imagination.  It was unique.  It had strange cut outs and slits, and strange tie dyed patterns.  I didn’t know what to make of it except that I stared at it for a long long time.
I didn’t know if I would ever wear it.  But it didn’t matter as it was far too expensive for me. *at $126 it’s more than this artist can afford to spend on one dress*
Several months later it was in the sale section of the site.  Again, I looked at it for a long long time.  I wasn’t sure it would be something I would ever really wear.  Would it just be a waste of money and hang ignored in my closet?  Would this be one of those things I would kick myself for later?  I didn’t know.  But even the sale price wasn’t enough for me to risk it.  Even for this fascinating dress.
Then.  Then it happened.  A huge semi-annual blow out.  The second I clicked on the blow out and saw this dress in the listings for $15 and in my size I knew that there could be no more hesitation.  It was kismet.  This dress had intrigued me for months.  I was absorbed in the architectural detail of it. And I knew that even if I never wore it, if I thought it a mistake later, my curiosity was worth the $15.
It was fate.  Now the dress and I have met, and we love each other.  We know we are two peas in a pod.  Two weird, fascinating creatures finally come together.
