Random Sundays: By The Light Of A Dying Sun

It’s getting dark earlier and earlier now.  Our afternoon walk by the pond ends up being at sunset, instead of in the midday sun. Though the bright green and heat are gone, there’s still something very magical about the place.  Especially in the light of the dying sun.

To-Do Lists

Button-Up – F21; Tee – Lucky Seven; Jeans – Guess; Shoes – Payless.

Don’t let these pictures fool you, it’s starting to get really cold out here. I’m not a fan of that.  I’ve been busy working on the re-deisng of the site, and trying to organize one photoshoot, prepare a script for a film shoot, and get a contract all organized.  Needless to say I’ve been multi-tasking like nobody’s business.  Thank goodness to-do lists, or I’d be totally lost.

But I have to say that all this activity has been incredibly fun, and all the positivity has me so encouraged, excited and productive.  Now if only I could survive on two hours sleep…..

How do you keep track of everything you have to do?  I sometimes find myself losing my to-do list and then I’m totally lost.  What are some of your tricks?

Under Construction

Cardi – hand me down; Dress – Ruche; Tights – H&M; Boots – Feet First; Belt – F21

Oh my goodness!  I’m re-designing my blog because well it’s just time, and the old template I was working with before had so many faults it was becoming a bit of a nightmare to try to manage it.  So in the meantime, I’ve had to revert to a simple template, but at least this one actually works!  I’m hoping to have it done and revealed to you soon.  In the meantime, please stick with me.  I know it looks pretty bare right now, but at least it’s clean and functional.

On another note, I’m getting eaten out of house and home!  Baby ate two eggs with sausage today and half a piece of toast, then munched on cheerios until snack time: two whole bowls of yogurt and a breakfast bar.  Where does it all go???

Tomorrow’s Daily Challenge:
Have absolutely no sugar today – maple syrup and agave nectar allowed, no splenda or such stuff though.

Husband’s Movember

Okay, I hate mustaches….with a passion.  So I’m kind of hating this whole Movember thing, especially since Husband has decided to participate.  But since he is participating, I thought I’d share the horrid thing that’s living on his face with you guys.  You know what they say, misery loves company.  The only thing that makes this slightly bearable *I emphasize the word ‘slightly’* is that he’s raising money for prostate cancer by getting donations supporting his stash.  So should you feel inclined, you can donate here.

He’ll thank you for it.  I…well, I can’t wait until November is over!

I’ll have some outfit posts for you tomorrow. Promise.

Totally Forgot About The Hair

Bow – Ruche.

I just realized that I showed you the outfit I wore, but I totally forgot to show you the hair!  Here’s how I wore it, and if you want to do it yourself check out my video here.

Tomorrow’s Daily Challenge:

A Work In Progress

Cardi, Warmers, and Necklace – Ruche; Jeans – Guess; Shoes – Payless; Shirt – Esprit.

I’m going to talk about world birth, but if you want to read a little bit about me playing check out my guest post over here!

World birth series at the Toronto Star continue with a focus on India.  The article says that India’s public health budget is the lowest in the world, and much of the money that is allocated disappears unaccounted for due to widespread corruption.  Women giving birth in a public hospital are in one room with 60 beds, sometimes sharing a bed, with dirty floors and mold on the walls, and no doctor or nurse in sight.  They just don’t show up about 40% of the time.

On the rise is private health care systems, where the costs are kept low by keeping services simple and by specializing in only three areas.  Doctors are paid on a profit sharing model and it seems to be working.  India is a country where necessity has created  some great inventions – like incubators that cost one tenth of the regular price.  Despite it’s corruption and lack of funding, general life expectancy has grown and the country recognizes the importance of maternal and natal care.

India is one of those places where things are improving, but I want to somehow see it change over night.  I realize that just isn’t possible, but it’s hard to sit and read about dirty and unsafe conditions for women and babes without getting upset.

Tomorrow’s Daily Challenge:
Go through your day without cursing.
For some this may be easy, for others this may well be near impossible.
You can do it!

Shorty, Too Shorty?

Cardi – H&M; Belt – F21; Dress – Ruche; Tights – Hue; Shoes – Payless.

Okay guys, I need your help today.  I like this dress, but lately I’m finding a lot of things, this dress included,  too short for my tastes.  So, I’m wondering whether to keep it or to sell it?  Do you guys think this is too short for me?   It’s from one of my favorite online shopping places too – ShopRuche – so I’m even more loathe to part with it, but I really think I may have to.  I feel a little exposed in it.  If only I was two inches shorter it would be perfect!

On this subject of shortness, when are you too old to wear something really short?  I used to think that you’re never too old to wear short skirts if you’re healthy and they look good, but lately as I’m reaching a certain older age, I’m starting to wonder if maybe there aren’t age limits on these things.  As I’ve said, I’m now finding certain items in my closet to be making me feel uncomfortable with how short they are.  Shorts, not so much, but definitely skirts.  Skirts and dresses.

Thoughts?  When is short, too short?  And when, if ever should you retire those short things?

Would You Live Stream Your Labor?

There’s this couple that have become infamous on the internet because they live streamed the birth of their youngest child.  When I read this I didn’t know how to feel.  I don’t think there’s a problem per se with streaming a live birth, it’s certainly better than some of the other crap I’ve seen, but I’m sure that I wouldn’t want to do it.  Birthing was such an intimate and personal experience that to stream it live for anyone to watch seems like a violation of my family’s privacy.  But at the same time, it’s very brave to let so many people into your lives to see something very beautiful.  So, I’m back to not knowing how I feel about this.

What about you?  Would you live stream your birth?

Random Sundays: Self-Employed Women

Geez, you’d think we were torturing her!
I’m home today with my babe while my husband is at work.  She’s gone down for a nap, and I’m getting to work.  That’s the life of a self-employed Mama.  That’s how it goes.  I’ve shared with you some of the ups and downs and things that have come up, but mostly I’ve tried to focus on fashion, thought provoking ideas, and the ridiculousness that is my life.  But if you want to hear more about what I as a self-employed woman go through, as well as hear from other such women, you need to check out Revolutionize Her.  It’s a site that is being launched tomorrow and I’m proud to be a part of it as a contributing writer.  This site is a collection of talented and motivated women who are all self-employed and who want to support and learn from other women just like them.
So if you want to know more about my struggles and joys, about my failures and my successes, or if you’re a woman who is considering packing in the9-5 and wants to know what it’s like on the other side of corporate life may I suggest checking out this site?
Tomorrow’s Daily Challenge:
Have no pop or juice today – only fresh squeezed allowed.

For the record, I failed the challenge yesterday.  I didn’t bake.  but I did take baby to the park where we played like mad.  Does that count?

Detoxing

Top & Skirt – hand me down; Belt – F21; Shoes – Lulus.com

Hello beautiful people!  How I’ve missed you.  I’m finally feeling much better and my energy is almost completely up.  So, I’ll be back to my regularily scheduled posting. I’m also part of am amazing project launching on Monday, but I’ll give you those details tomorrow.

It’s bright and sunny outside and I can’t wait to get out there with Baby and play in the park.  I’ve started a full body detox so I am having a few rough days as the worst part of the detox is right at the beginning, and my skin is going wild with acne.  But I know at the end it’ll be so worth it when I’m healthier and more energetic, and my skin will be a whole lot better too.  Have you changed anything recently?  Notice any difference?

Bake something nutritious and delicious!
