Special Stand Out You

Dress – Trinity  //  Sweater – Darling via Emerging Thoughts  //  Scarf – Kensie  //  Tights – Hansel from Basel  //  Boots – Walmart

Standing out from the crowd is difficult.  How do you stand out from a crowd?  Other than running naked down the street flailing your arms, of course.  Don’t try that by the way, the results are never good.  In theory it’s all about being yourself, but in a crowd of people trying to stand out I don’t know if anyone can ever really do it. With everyone trying to feel special in our society by seeking that recognition of being the “most” at something, I wonder if it’s ever really possible to achieve it.  I don’t know.  Maybe I’m in the crowd so I just can’t see the way, or maybe I’m off to the side standing apart but not out, that I just don’t get it.  But I don’t.

I can’t help but wonder about that line from Hope Floats, “I’m just not special, and that’s okay.”  Maybe not everyone is meant to be special, and maybe that’s okay.
Maybe just being happy is enough.

Ugh, ever have those days where you could just get your pretentious brain to be quite?

Things To Do At A Bus Stop

Top – H&M  //  Sweater – Dear Creatures via Emerging Thoughts  //  Cords – Le Chateau  //  Bag – Ruche  //  Boots – Locale  //  Bracelet – F21

When waiting for a bus you can:

a) Check your email, facebook, and twitter.
b) Take outfit photos
c) Have melting snow slowly drip on your head
d) All of the above

Thanks to Android phone apps, I was able to see that I had 15 minutes before my intended bus arrived at the stop.  So, spotting a nearby obliging alley I decided to abandon option ‘c’ and instead retrieve my mini tripod, to do option ‘b.’  That still left me option ‘a’ with which to kill the last four minutes.

If you were in any of the gazillion cars that witnessed this, I’m not crazy, just a blogger…which is often easily interchangeable.

Mad Foot In Mouth Skills

Top – Gentlefawn  //  Pants – don’t remember  //  Jacket & Necklace – F21  //  Boots – First

There’s this amazing skill I have.  Really, it’s a talent unrivaled by others:  if there’s a way to stick my foot in my mouth in a conversation I will find it.  I will be the person who for no reason whatsoever will say that thing that will make everyone pause with a slight “oh, what do we say to that” thought.  It’s never huge, it’s never greatly offense, it’s just well, awkward.  Example, at a recent party Andrew did something awesome, and I blurt out, ” You’re so getting laid for that!”  Yup, that’s me.  The awkward inappropriate comment.  The clincher was that he didn’t – I went right to sleep. Jammies, teeth, sleep…I’m a wild one I tell you.  I’m better in print.

True Story:
You know you’re a fashion blogger when your little girl asks to put on her crown, and insists on taking pictures.
Then she starts posing for the camera.
Posing.
At two and half, she’s doing the hip-to-the-side pose, and the look-over-the-should-at-the-camera pose.
And she’s so proud.

New Year, New Look

   Top – Threadsence  //  Tee – Smart Set  //  Jeans – Gap  //  Boots – Locale  //  Necklace – F21
Okay, so clearly these photos were taken before we got dumped on with snow here.  I haven’t had a chance to post them yet, so before they get super duper old, here it is.  I hope you all are doing exceptionally well this fine day.  I’m excited for ModaMama to have a newer sleeker look for the start of 2013.  I just really like the simple minimalist look you know, and wanted a polished finish.  So that’s where I hope we are right now with the look of the site.

In other news, I get a whole day out today to game.  That’s right I’m getting my boardgame geek on today!

Quote of Today:
“Mom, I’m not drinking zombie water.”

Zou Bisou Bisou

Eagle Ring – Lulus  //  Black-Gold Ring – F21
New Year’s Eve.  For the first time in three years we had a sitter for the night and can go out.  So out on the town we went.  First stop, a Mad Men themed party.  So instead of channeling Betty, I decided to channel Don Draper’s second (or third depending on how you count it) wife, Megan.  I didn’t have to do a rendition of “Zou Bisou Bisou,”  but the temptation was there.

Also, I’m kind of sad to see Dressember go, but excited to wear pants again.
So show me, how did your last two days of Dressember go?

Hello 2013, Chal-lenge Accepted!

Scarf – Kensie   //  Sweatshirt – Alternative Apparel from Trixie  //  PJ Pants – La Senza  // Headband – Treasured Details

The ever lovely Amanda from Royal Daughter Designs tweeted:

So naturally I tweeted back, “Challenge Accepted!!!”  *because I really consider myself the Barney Stinson of fashion*  That’s the reasoning behind this stunning outfit you see here, and I am linking up for WIWW with it, and if you’re visiting from there, now you know the story behind this super chic look.  *sarcasm fully intended*

But as I took on this self-thrown down gauntlet, and as I’ve been reflecting on the last year, I think 2013 is the year of “Challenge Accepted!”  At least I’m going to try my darnedest to have the attitude of nothing being impossible and nothing being off the table.  This year, to paraphrase a friend, I’m doin’ things my way.  This year I’m not going to back down.  Chal-lenge Accepted!!

Fluffy, Furry and Wool

Cardi – Darling via Emerging Thoughts  //  Dress – Blue Pepper  //  Belt – AE  //  Tights – HUE
Thigh Socks – Hansel From Basel  //  Boots – Locale  //  Necklace – Etsy

It just doesn’t get any better than clothes that are soft, fluffy and warm.  Especially when that nagging head cold won’t go away and you just want to wrap yourself in a perpetual blanket.  I wish there was a way to wear a nice hot steaming bath around all day.  But I think that would be not only cumbersome, wet, and messy, but would also violate most, if not all, anti-obscenity laws.
Fluffy cardigan it is.  Not as cozy, but at least it won’t get me arrested.

Xmas Update

Christmas Eve was a blast filled with tons of delicious food, tart wine, heaps upon heaps of toys, and many pieces of wrapping paper laid bare on the sacrificial altar of a Toddler’s joy.

And Christmas day was a wonderful repeat of the same, but at Andrew’s parent’s house.

p.s. I’d like to thank Martha for nominating me for the Versatile Blogger Award.  I appreciate it so much and it warms my heart that you like my blog.  I hope I can continue to delight you in the new year.

I Dare You Not To Look *Dressember Link Up*

Top – hand me down  //  Dress – c/o eShakti  //  Tights – HUE
Shoes – Payless  //  Necklaces & Earrings – Ruche

I could not be happier with this red dress from eShakti.  Since having received it back in September and featuring it then, it has just grown and grown in my eyes.  I think I love the LRD more than I love the LBD.   There’s something so coy about  a simply cut dress in such a bold color.  It’s as if you’re outwardly blending in, but inwardly daring people not to look at you.  The subtly subversive side.

I also couldn’t resist featuring my sister in her kick ass animal print dress.  I would so totally steal that.

This week is the last link up for Dressember – so show me your best!!!

At Mom’s House

Sweater – Dear Creatures via Emerging Thoughts  //  Dress – Monteau
Tights – HUE  //  Boots – Feet First

When I’m at my mom’s house I just want to sit and chill in comfy sweaters and under cozy blankets.  So that’s what I did, when I wasn’t running around after a little toddler obsessed with the piano.  I kind of miss the days when I was the kid when I came home, and just had the chance to laze and lounge.  That’s no longer the case as I have my own little one, though it is fun to see her oooh and aaah at the big Christmas tree.

And her obsession with Grandpa does help to give me some time to myself.
