Don’t get me wrong, I’m all up for cheap and trendy jewelry. I love to try something outlandish and know I haven’t spent a lot on it. But there is something truly spectacular about a piece that you choose, that you love, and that you purchase with care.

The Sitar Pendant has just the right mix of elegance and boho for me. It’s deep purple stone speaks to my favorite color and something about the richness feels like you get can lost in it. Putting on something you treasure suddenly makes you stand up taller and straighter. If you’re me, it also puts a little sway into your step. It’s definitely something every woman should have. Where Are My Effin’ Cupcakes, All I Got Is Pee

You’ll hear about the joys of Motherhood. The glory, the cupcakes. The effin’ cupcakes. You’ll imagine yourself as a June Cleaver sort. *Because we’re engrained with female stereotypes – but this post isn’t about that…this time* Perfectly coiffed and glowing all the time.

But the reality is far from it. There are no cupcakes. Geez, I would kill for some cupcakes right now. What is there? What is the reality?

The reality is that you’ll have urine on your hands from your girl’s bathroom accidents, and then realize that it’s in your hair because you brushed it from your face before you washed. Oh, and it’s on your face now too.

The reality is that you’ll be on all fours reaching around your dogs nether regions to cut out the urine matted tangles so that he is clean and groomed. I’m not sure the Cleavers ever had a dog, but I’m pretty sure that if they did June never did that. Bet she never had her nose far too close to her dogs penis in an attempted to cut out that awkward tangle yet still not actually cut the dog’s skin. Nope, pretty sure June never did that.

At least I wore pearl earrings while doing it.

Netflix, the on demand tv subscription, provides suggestions based on what you watch. I think Netflix must be seriously concerned about my mental health. Either that or it thinks I’m a morbid, serial killing, pedophile, with a post-apocalyptic obsession. Oh and Buffy – ’cause my Mom watched that while she was here.

“Because you watched The Following” – it recommends documentaries, reality tv shows, and movies all about serial killing.

“Because you watched Cabin In The Woods” – it recommends every horror show and movie ever.

“Because you watched Dual Survivor” – it’s recommended tons of reality and fiction apocalyptic and ‘prep for the apocalypse’ shows.

“Because you watched Daniel Tigers Neighborhood, Super Why, and Dora”- it recommends all the children’s shows.

Yeah. I’m pretty sure that Netflix not only thinks of me as a disturbed individual with violent, apocalyptic, and children’s obsessions, but it actively promotes those obsessions.

I’m kind of embarrassed to show anyone my Netflix account. More than my underwear drawer. At least that’s all clean. My Netlfix recommendations on the other hand….

My Kid Deals Out Mommy Crack

When your kid’s throwing a huge tantrum, or just plain being demanding, when you haven’t slept, or eaten because you’ve been running ragged, and when they’ve fallen *or whatever* despite being told four dozen times not to do it or “You’ll hurt yourself,” that’s when you pick them up and hope that it makes them quiet for a moment.

And that’s when they dose you. Don’t be fooled. It’s not an accident, and it’s not coincidental. I’m firmly convinced that my kid knows exactly when to release that smell. The one on the top of their heads. You know the one I’m talking about. The one that sends you into perfect relaxation and bliss. The one that makes you love them and feel like being with them is Nirvana. I don’t know what the technical term for it is, but I like to think of it as “Mommy crack.”

She’s got it down to a fine art. She’s got it timed. She knows exactly when her Mama needs her next fix so as to not go completely off the rails. She’s my drug dealer, and she’s also the supply. So I can’t cut out the middleman in this.

The drug is the middle man.

Everyone’s Idea of Fun is Different

There’s a Holiday Train from the Canadian Railway that pulls up with all these lights. One of the cars is open and set up like a stage for a Christmas concert. There’s hot chocolate. There’s a firetruck and an ambulance for the kids to run and sit inside.

Lots of families. Lots of smiles. My Baby Girl loved it.
Sometimes Toronto feels like a small town.

Meanwhile, Drake the Dog’s idea of fun is passing out on a pile of little pieces of paper. To each his own I guess.

Every year around this time, while everyone is gearing up for Christmas, I’m just trying to make it past December 21st. That’s the longest night and shortest day of the year. I need my daylight. I love the daylight. I need it to get through Winter. Cold and darkness are just too much.

I go a little crazy. Queen’s I’m Going Slightly Mad starts running through my head on repeat. I become a bit of a homebody *mostly ’cause I’m such a cold wimp* and I start getting cabin fever. It’s a paradox I know.

So while you’re gearing up for Christmas. I’m gearing up for December 21st. Me and my vino are impatiently awaiting the light.

These pictures were taken a few days ago – obviously the snow is not on the ground – but I needed to post them and here’s why. I organize my photos in such a way that the ones I haven’t posted are always in the folder I’m working on and once I post them I put them in their separate file.

So as long as I don’t post them they’re always staring me in the face. And I gotta say I have had quite enough of staring at the sunshine and no snow in these photos. It’s just a huge darn tease! So there. They’re posted and now they’re filed away and I don’t have to look at them.

Just snow from here on in….le sigh.

All Natural Spa Night Birthday

My best friend, Emily, had her “29th” Birthday party and she had a great idea for a two parter day. The first part was a fun family visit where partners and children were welcome.

Of course my Baby Girl decided to tell everyone what to do. She had the adults dressed up and reading stories to her.

For the second part the families got kicked out and it was just us ladies for some wine and an all natural girl’s spa.

I loved getting together with some of these ladies that I hadn’t seen for a while, and meeting some wonderful new women. They’re all such generous and open hearted women. Feels like I’ve known them all for years.

What Rules?! : How To Wear Sequins During The Day

Sequins are only meant for the night, that rule is so antiquated I think. It’s a perfect rule to break today.

I think the key to wearing sequins during the day is to keep everything around it laid back and casual – that means thicker textures and unstructured fits, like this chunky knit cardigan, and distressed jeans. The worn in jeans, the loose fit and the thick scarf all add an air of casualness to this, which works against the dressed up feeling of the top.

And who doesn’t love a little sparkle in their day, am I right?
