Coo Coo Ca Choo

Top – Zara  //  Pants – Gap  //  Vest & Sunnies – F21  //  Boots – Aldo // Necklace – thrifted

I’m up. I’m down.  Life’s throwing me one way, then the pendulum swings the other.  My metaphors, my similes get turned upside down and inside out.  The brain starts thinking, while the heart keeps feeling.  I spin. Don’t ask me to walk a straight line.

I wish I could write some linear, understandable witticism today.  That ain’t gonna happen.  It is what it is.

Man, you been a naughty boy, you let your face grow long.

I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.

I am the walrus, coo coo ca choo

The Whims of Weather

  Dress – ModCloth  //  Cardi – Jacob  //  Tights – HUE
Shoes – Payless  //  Necklace – Etsy  //  Headband – F21
Did you know it is cold in Toronto?  Apparently I did not, and I received a rude awakening after taking off my sweater for a photo.  It was cold. In the winter.  Who would’ve thought?  How dare the weather show such audacity?  Sometimes I do wonder why it is that I was not given control over the weather as my personal gift.  It’s probably smart given my proclivity towards impulsiveness.  You’d have rain when I felt bad, and winter when I’m angry and warm tropical sunshine otherwise.  There would be no rhyme or reason – just my moods.  Crops would not grow,  we’d have nothing to eat, and pretty soon the whole world would fall apart.  So yes, I do see why, but I still want it because sometimes in the dead of winter, I want to wear a dress with no tights on or sweaters either.
p.s.  yes that’s my Daenerys Storborn necklace.  My nerd is always showing.

Dressember Roundup

Sweater – Old Navy  //  Shirt – hand me down  //  Dress – Lush
Tights & Belt – F21  //  Boots – Locale  //  Necklace – Ruche
One lovely reader mentioned in a comment that she has a belt like this and was looking for more ways to style it.  So here I am trying in my own limited way to help out by styling it again and maybe sparking some new ideas. Also, might I suggest checking out this post where it’s paired with a high waist skirt?  Just trying to help out in my own very small way.
So Dressember is in full swing.  I invite you to link up your favorite post, or a roundup post, or FB/Twitter/instagram, from this first week of dresses. *but just one please*  I’m excited to see how you fared this first week, so I’ll be visiting all of you.
As always, it’s not required, but I appreciate you grabbing the button and posting it on your site or on your post to help spread the word.  Thanks very much.

Compulsion

Dress – Dear Creatures via Emerging Thoughts  //  Sweater – Jacob  //  Tights – Hansel from Basel  Shoes – ModCloth  //  Earrings & Necklace – c/o This Enchanted Pixie
This uncontrollable urge.  An urge I can’t resist, no matter how hard I seem to try.  The urge to wear something red with any of my Dear Creatures dresses.  I have two and thus far I have been unable to resist the urge.  I have to either wear a red sweater, or tight, or as in this case, red shoes.  But when red shoes are in the sale rack for $11 dollars and are brand new can you really blame me for giving in?  I can’t resist their siren song.

The Filter of The Mind

Sweater – F21  //  Top – Gentlefawn  //  Pants – Gap
Boots – Aldo  //  Necklace & Ring – Threadsence
Sort of fitting that today I wore my favorite velvet pants since I decided last minute to do Dressember!  That’s where you wear a dress everyday in December – some do it for charity and some do it for fun. I’ve decided that I’m going to do it for charity.  So on that note, any revenue from ads purchased until Dec 10th *for 50% off* will be donated to a charity.  I’m not sure yet which one.  I’m thinking either World Vision, Because I am a Girl, or Toy Mountain here in Toronto *gives needy kids a toy on Christmas*  I’ll definitely keep you posted on my choice, and in the meantime feel free to make a suggestion.
I feel excited about this challenge, but also well, I’m not sure how difficult it’ll be.  You know, considering my rather limited *blatant hyperbole* collection of dresses.   My challenge will be choosing which dresses to feature this month.  Or maybe it’ll be ignoring all the cute skirts in my closet.  I know, I have a serious problem here folks. Serious. Problems.  I mean comparable to global warming or poverty in third world countries, right?  How will I ever cope?
Sometimes I can’t believe the things that spew out of my mouth.  Believe me, I’m well aware of the ridiculousness that these hands are capable of writing.  But are you also aware of the ridiculousness that I think but don’t actually write?  Yes, this is after going through a filter, a rather thin one mind you, but a filter nonetheless.  Imagine what doesn’t make it through.  It boggles the mind.

‘Cause We All Need Five Minutes Sometimes

Sweater – Zara  //  Dress – Ruche  //  Shoes – Payless
Tights – Hue  //  Belt & Earrings – F21  //  Coat – Jacob
Today was one of those extremely ridiculous days.   No, not one of those days where you’re running for the bus with a stroller only to have your cellphone bounce out of said stroller onto the sidewalk and you have to run back to catch it as you watch that bus go by and another one doesn’t come for 45 minutes.  No, not one of those days, though they are fun, and that did happen yesterday.
Today was one of those days where I stood in front of my closet for an hour in my tiny little bathrobe lamenting, no whining and crying, in my head that I had absolutely nothing to wear.  Yes, I realize how absolutely ridiculous it is for me to say that since I have the wardrobe of three other women combined.
But it was just one of those days where nothing seems to exactly capture the mood you’re in, and nothing speaks to you, and not one item in your closet works.  It’s one of those days where I just wanted to burn everything – or donate it, or whatever – and start fresh.
No, I don’t have that luxury, and yes it would be a total waste of resources and therefore completely against my moral code, but today was one of those days.
I’m just going to sit in the corner and pout about it a little bit.
And then get over it, ’cause there’s real trouble in the world.
Excuse me for five minutes.
True Story:
While visiting a friend and her children, Baby Girl and her boy crawl into bed under the covers.
His mom turns to me and says, “Maybe we should get their betrothal officially before anything else happens.”

Tyrion and Goliath

‘Dress’ – Hot&Delicious via Threadsence  //   Sweater – HUH Boutique  //  Pants – Lululemon
Boots – Aldo  //  Necklaces – Ruche

Tall is a relative thing.  Some days I feel about as tall as Tyrion from Game of Thrones, though not nearly as powerful.  Other days, I feel like a massive Goliath towering over people.  Objectively, at 5’6″ I’m neither.  But on days like this where a dress barely covers my rear end and I really consider it a shirt, I definitely feel a bit like an overgrown child’s toy.

Yes, a child’s toy.  It’s appropriate considering my limbs are routinely utilized as a jungle gym, a restraint, and a healer of booboos for one spunky toddler.  Oh and in case you didn’t know, velvet is apparently a perfect surface to rub a runny nose on.  We’re oh so classy over here.

Stop For A Moment

Shirt – Stradivarius  //  Sweater – Zara  //  Pants – Lululemon  //  Boots – Feet First
Jacket, Ring & Earrings – F21  //  Necklace – Ruche
A weekend spent in productions meetings, read throughs, and pouring over scripts.  An outfit filled with an abundance of textures and monochromatic gorgeousness.  Tons of toddler hugs and ‘I wuv you.’  A deep tissue massage today to get rid of these tension headaches. Sometimes life is really good. I’m just going to stop and enjoy it.
True Story:
On a walk around the neighborhood, Baby Girl points out all the pumpkins she sees.
When I see a little tiny one I say, “Look a baby pumpkin.”
Baby Girl takes a moment to look, then starts to cry.
Turns out she was upset because it didn’t have a mommy with it.
So then we had to stop and I had to explain that pumpkins don’t have mommies, so it’s okay.
Finally, she stopped crying.

The Silver Lining

Sweater – F21  //  Dress – ModCloth  //  Tights – Hue  //  Boots – Petit Pieds
Hurricane Sandy is wreaking havoc.  Here in Toronto it’s caused some tragedies, and my heart goe out to those families.  But here at Chez Haughton it’s caused two little ones some unparalleled joy.
Baby girl is thrilled at the amount of Dora The Explorer she’s suddenly allowed to watch as Mama and Daddy are busy dealing with things like fences getting ripped out of the ground by the wind.  And Drake the Dog, is personally thrilled that the wind decided to rip apart our fence – now he can hop over to the neighbors yard and explore all those smells!
One person’s tragedy, and unwanted fence expense, is anothers extra tv and double the yard space.

Give Me A Good Cliche

Dress – Blue Pepper from Ruche  //  Necklace, Bracelet, and Earrings – Threadsence  //  Tights – F21  //  Boots – Feet First

There’s something about the combination of brown and blue, especially a really rich tone, that feels just perfect for Fall.  It’s one of those palettes that has just been made for the season.  It’s almost become a cliche just because it looks so right, but hey, I’ve never been one to shy away from a good cliche. They become cliches for a reason.

And I’d rather listen to a good cliche any day over some of the dribble that I hear on a daily basis.  Like the teenage girls on the metro who were talking about not wanting to exercise to get thin because they don’t feel like it, so instead they take diet pills…along with all their other pills.  Sometimes I just want to shake young women, or sit in a corner and cry.  Do you realize what you’re putting into your body?  Do you realize what ideal you’re buying into?

I’ll take a good cliche any day.

 True Story:
Andrew is cooking and Drake the Dog is not more than two inches away from him at all times in the hopes that something will fall, or that he’ll get offered some treat.  Andrew offers him a piece of celery.  Drake takes it walks away and drops it on the floor in distaste.  Baby Girl, who just happens to be sitting right there, picks up the celery without missing a beat.  And pops it into her mouth saying, “Thank you Dwake!” Only time she’s ever eaten celery.
