Heart On My – Bee!

Cardi – Yumi
Scarf – street stand
Dress – Bloom
Belt – F21
Shoes – Payless

So I was totally going to call this post “Heart On My Sleeve” in reference to the hearts on my cardigan, and I was going to talk about something sweet, but here’s a better story:

See that last picture where I’m looking all profound and philosophical?  Yeah, well just as the timer was going off on my camera I happened to hear a noise and noticed a bee flying dangerously close to me.  So the picture was totally forgotten while I focused in curiosity, indecision, and growing terror as the bee started a slow trajectory towards me.

Soon afterwards, I gave a high-pitched yelp, grabbed my camera and ran inside the house.  I’m just thankful I had the wherewithal to remember the camera!  Though in hindsight, I doubt the camera was a panicked as I was.

Give me zombies and I’ve got sword and gun expertise, but don’t you dare face me with a bee.

*Hangs head in shame*

Mama’s Gonna Go Lose Her Breakfast

 Jacket – F21
Shirt – Lucca Couture
Jeans – Gap
Shoes – Threadsence
Sunnies – Lace Affair

Okay last summer I did a rant about unsightly pantie lies, and this year it seems the rants are starting early because I have a grievance to air with you ladies.  Don’t leave the house in a sheer dress without a slip.  I have no need, or any desire, to see the exact pattern on the g-string you decided to wear with you chiffon white summer dress.  Check yourself in a mirror under proper light, please!  Don’t assume that two layers of sheer chiffon equal one non-see through layer of another material because they don’t!

I don’t care what lovely shape you may be in, Mama’s gonna go loose her breakfast over that!

Thank you, rant done.  We now return to our regularly scheduled program…how’s your week?

Life Is Good

Hat – Ruche
Sunnies – Lace Affair
Belt – F21
Shirt – Lucca Couture
Cardi – Old Navy
Skirt – F21 dress I sewed into a skirt

Sitting in the backyard, the golden setting sun warm on my shoulder and my legs tucked up underneath me,  I sip my cold, crisp white wine.  My husband is mowing the lawn while my baby girl squeals as she chases the dog who’s running for his dear life in fear of sticky fingers clutching his ears. Right now, right here life is good.

p.s. have you entered the giveaway?  There’s still two days left!
p.p.s.  I’m talking photoshoots today on Mom 2 MemphisAnd Ruby.  Check it out.

Krikee!!

Cardi – Jacob
Scarf – Thrifted
Tee – F21
Pants – Esprit
Shoes – Threadsence

Drake and I are wracking our brains.  When Baby gets upset or frustrated she says/yells a word that sounds exactly like, “Kirkee!”  *She’s never seen the Crocodile Hunter*  I’m Polish, Andrew is Canadian/British, how did we end up with an Aussie baby?  So confused….

Hey, Nice Undies

Cardi – Gap
Top & Socks – F21
Skirt – Ruche
Boots – Feet First
Necklace – gift from Mama’s Nest Designs
I had a Marilyn moment without trying to.  Walking home late at night in this skirt the wind was so strong that it completely blew my skirt up in the air.  No one saw though because, as I said, it was late at night.  I was relieved that no one saw it because I would’ve been so embarrassed, but also a little disappointed.  I was having a great leg day and wearing really nice undies, so if someone had to see some time that was the day.  You know it’s going to happen again when I’m wearing grannies and haven’t shaved.  You just know it will!
Remember how this skirt was completely destroyed on the very first day I got it?  Well, thanks to my talented Mother-In-Law it’s been resurrected from the dead. *I may or may not have been watching several episodes of The Walking Dead*  She took some material from the inside of the waist, and using webbing and other magical feats of sewing fixed it right up.  If you look closely you can tell, but when i put it on even knowing where the hole had been it still took me a few second to find it.  So yay!

p.s. I finished editing a recent shoot and posted a few choice pics here.  I’d love for you to check them out!

True Story:
Andrew and I watched the Modern Family episode where the ladies of the house get their cycles synchronized and Andrew turns to me, “I’m scared for when that happens.”
I don’t blame him.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Not A Family Friendly Brat

Top – Gap
Cardi – Anthropologie
Cords – Le Chateau
Boots – Threadsence
Necklace – c/o Scarlet Samples
Last night I did ADR for a short film that I was in not too long ago, and I have to confess I’m a little brat!  *ADR is when you go into the studio and record some lines that may have been lost or fuzzy and match it up to your lips moving – harder than it sounds*
You see the film is about serious stuff, and the lines are serious stuff – people arguing, dying, etc. etc.  – but I couldn’t resist turning some of those lines into shall we say less-than-family-friendly material? It was just too tempting.  those lines, without context and the way we recorded some of the things were just begging for it!  And I’m not one to turn that down.  The screening is in a few weeks, and I’m so excited to see the whole thing on screen!

Flash Thanks

Top – Thrifted
Skirt – Spotted Moth
Cardi – Old Navy
Hat &Shoes – Ruche
Necklace – won from a giveaway and I can’t remember from who

Yesterday I had a really rough day,  I mean really rough.  I won’t go into the details because that’s not the pertinent part, but let’s just say I was not a happy camper.  Having money set aside for just such days, I tweeted that I needed one of my favorite stores to have a flash sale so I can partake of some retail therapy.  I didn’t really expect a response, you know?  Lo and behold, Lauren from Emerging Thoughts tweets and facebooks with a one hour flash sale in my honor.  I was touched!  *I also picked up a gorgeous Dear Creatures dress I was hoping to get*

We’re in the middle of Blog Positivity week and I can’t express how much I appreciate the relationships I’ve formed with some amazing people online.   Like Lauren from Emerging Thoughts.  She’s a wonderful lady with a great eye for curating her boutique, and a great personality all around.  I’ve never met her in person, only online.  Through blogs and social media,  I’ve made connections with bloggers, retailers and just great people all around.

I’d like to thank you all.

True Story:
Baby has grasped the full extent and meaning of the word ‘No’, or ‘neoo’ as she says it.
*accompanied by the obligatory head shake*
Here’s a recent conversation.
“Do you want to eat dinner?”
“Neoo”
“Okay, well Mama’s going to eat dinner.”
“Neoo”
“Do you want to go take a bath?”
“Neoo”
“Well, Mama has to go to the bathroom”
“Neoo!”
“No?”
“Neoo.”

Man o’ Bear

Dress & Boots – Threadsence
Belt, Socks, Necklace & Hat – F21
I’m a bit obsessed with the show Man vs Wild right now, and this week I’m grieving the loss of Bear Grylls as the shows lead.  Contract negotiations caused Discovery and Bear to go their separate way and I’m really sad because to me, he totally made the show.  But on a bright note, I still have several seasons of Bear to watch on Netflix.  Also, recently Andrew has gotten into it as well.  I think it’s because I may have said something about Bear being my current crush…maybe.

Great Day!

Jacket – Smart Set
Shirt – H&M
Scarf – Lace Affair
Jeans – Gap
Shoes – Payless
Sunglasses – thrifted

There was a large heat wave one of the days this week, and Baby and I decided to take advantage of it by having a fantastic day together.  We walked to school for kids group, ran around the gymnasium, then after her nap headed out for the entire afternoon getting some things done, but also and more importantly, spending about an hour at a playground having a ball.  But even that hour was not enough for her because when I told her it was time to leave she started crying and fighting with me.  I knew it was time though, when the fight didn’t last long at all and the thumb was in the mouth within seconds.  She was tired.  She was so knackered after our day I had to put her to bed early so she would have time to relax and wind down in the dark silence of her room.  During this interlude, Mommy enjoyed some of her delicious port.  Boy, did we have a great day!

True Story:
Baby has no idea how to drink with a straw.  She made me open my unsweetened fruit iced tea so that she could drink it.  Then she thought the straw was a toy that came with the drink.  *sigh*

Key To A Large And Lasting Wardrobe

Sweater  – Esprit
Dress – Ruche
Necklace – Mama Nest Designs
Tights – Hue
Boots – Locale

Some friends over the years have remarked about the large closet of clothes I own, and they’re right I do own a lot.  But here’s the secret to the *as a friend once put it* ‘most extensive wardrobe I’ve ever seen’ : meticulous care, flexibility, and patience.

I have clothes I got in high school still hanging in my closet and they’re still in good condition because I care for my pieces.  I take care to follow the instructions on the label and make sure that everything is treated well so that it lasts.  What I mean by meticulous care is following the washing, ironing, and hanging instructions so as to prolong the life of the article.  That doesn’t mean I treat my clothes like museum pieces.  I’ll wear my
pretty dresses in the park with Baby and don’t care if they get muddied
and dirty.  After all, it’s about looking good while you live your life.

Also, I never say no.  When someone offers a hand me down bag of clothes, or my mom spring/winter cleans her closet I never turn it down.  Chances are I’ll find one or two pieces in there that I can work into my wardrobe in an unique way.

Finally, patience.  I like to shop and purchase fun pieces, but I don’t have a huge budget nor do I like to spend a lot on clothes.  So I’ll wait.  I’ll save my birthday and X-mas money for months and months, sometimes I have gift certificates from the season before still in my wallet when the next holiday rolls around.  If I see a dress, top, or skirt I really like I won’t buy it.  I’ll wait.  I’ll wait for a discount code, or a sale, or something else of that nature.  If I miss it and it sells out, no worries, there will be something else just as pretty soon enough…and it just might be 50% off.  Basically, don’t get attached to a piece then you won’t ‘have to have’ it, and two months from now it may be on sale.

Just one last note, don’t be afraid to return.  If it doesn’t work, fit or for some reason you doubt it.  Return it.  No harm, no foul.  That’s what those policies are for.

p.s. I love that the sock bun is making a resurgence.  I’ve been doing this
for years now, but lately it seems every blogger is talking about it.
So yay! I’m so glad that foot wear in your hair is becoming mainstream.
The best part is the curls it leaves you with afterwards.  Just like the
ones you see in the pictures.

True Story:
Baby stood on the edge of the toilet even though I told her not to.
She fell right in.  Soaked to the waist.
She started crying, clearly traumatized.
I stripped her, changed her, and held her…while giggling to myself just a wee bit.
Another bad mother moment.
