I had a client scheduled for a shoot yesterday morning.  I woke up early and left the house early in the morning as well, ensuring that I would have plenty of time to set up and test all my gear.  You know how we all revert to the tried and true uniform of comfort when it’s early and we have a very limited window of opportunity to get ready?  Well this is pretty much mine:  jeans, nerd tee, boots, scarf, and cardigan.  Oh and of course I had no time to do me hair, it’s still super straight from a few days ago.

There you have it folks – full disclosure.

A Toddler’s View of Exercise

When I don’t have time or when I want a bit of a change from the regular, I throw on Shaun T’s Insanity or Asylum, or when in a time crunch the T25, and work out.  I do it on my computer when my girl is up and around.  Most of the time she joins in with me for a good chunk of it, and then sits in the room drawing.

Two days ago, I turned on Insanity and asked her, “You gonna come exercise with Mama?”
She replied with a very concerned look and, “No, ’cause it too hard, and it make me tired.”

She summed up exactly why a lot of people don’t exercise.
But within five minutes she was jumping and lunging away with me.  Her favorite are squats.

You Want Something Done, Do It Yourself

Top – Camilla Tree via Ruche  //  Cords – Le Chateau  //  Kimono – made by me!  //  Shoes – Threadsence  //  Turquoise necklace – I forget  //  Waterfall Necklace – c/o Atterley Road  //  Ring – Body Blue //  Sunnies – c/o Woodzee   *enter to win a pair*

You know that old saying, right?  Well, I’ve been coveting a few awesome fringe kimonos, but with price tags upwards of one hundred dollars on the ones that I want it was never gonna happen.  I budget and live within my means, and those means do not include hundred dollar kimonos.  So, I thought, “You want one?  Make it happen.”

Browsing through this huge fabric warehouse not too far from home, I stumbled across this gorgeous gray chiffon fabric and had one of those butterfly in the stomach moments.  It was the perfect material with it’s soft gray and white leaf print with specks of blue, and subtle silver sparkle.  Done.

The roll firmly tucked under my arm, I promptly waded through the fringe bin and found this long, soft, ivory fringe to match.  Copying another kimono that had been a gift from my mom, I then starting cutting and sewing.

The weight of the fringe as it swings back and forth while walking.  There’s something very satisfying about that.

Total price tag – $32.  That’s more like it.

Yup, That’s What I’m Gonna Do

Jacket & Top – Le Chateau  //  Pants – Gap  // Boots – Call It Spring  //  Necklace & Hat – Threadsence //  Scarf – street stand  //  Sunnies – F21
Wear hats and sunnies in the Autumn.  Clearly I’m so sun phobic that given the chance to wear a wide brim felt fedora I’m going to take it.  This was the morning we headed over to the grandparents before I headed out to the last day on set this month for the feature film, Synchronicity.    Knowing I was going to be on set outside for a lot of the day played into the sun-phobic outfit.
And of course the second I started taking pictures, baby girl had to get in there to join me for them.  The best part was that she started posing for them.  Copying the moves she’s seen me make, and telling me how to stand.

Contributions and Gains

Vest –  Piko 1988 via Threadsence //  Top & Jeans – Gap  //  Boots – Call It Spring  //  Necklace – H&M
When you’re working on a co-op production, even when you’re not acting that day you might have to be on set.  Why, because on such a production, all the actors are equal stakeholders and so they all profit equally and should also not be surprised to work/contribute equally.   Thus their presence is often required on set to help as PAs.  So today I was riding around on my bike delivering gear, running errands, and basically being a go-for for whatever was needed.  I sort of expected it this day, so I wore jeans and a fun vest that would keep me warm and cool on this weird weather day.

A Soft Caress Of The Wind

Kimono – Threadsence  //  Dress H&M  //  Necklace – Lustre Boutique  //  Shoes – unknown

There’s something about a warm breeze.  Something so joyful and, let’s be honest, sexy about it.  A warm breeze is like a lovers caress through your hair and on your skin.  It’s soothing, and comforting, and full of promise.  A freeing of inhibitions, and a reckless abandon now only left to the optimism of youth.  We all need more warm breezes.

Where Does The Time Go?

Dress – F21  //  Shoes – I forget  //  Belt – Threadsence  //  Necklace – I forget
A question that’s been on my mind for a few days now.  Somehow,  the summer is over and I’ve got a big girl sleeping in her room.  The pool is closed, and school’s in.  The baby crib is gone, and a double bed is in.  The weather turns cooler, and the days get shorter.  The baby furniture is replaced with “big girl” desk and shelves.
Where does the time go?  I had heat and sun and long days of sun.  I had a baby in a crib that could barely stand.  Now I have crisp and cool breezes.  Now I have a grown up little girl.

Indulgent In Me

Dress – Zara  //  Jacket – thrifted  //  Sandals – F21  //  Necklace – I forget
The heat has made it so that every day is a swim day.  And Baby Girl is really sad about it. *sarcasm fully intended*   I really did nothing else but hang about the house and then head for a swim.  She and I trekked the 10 minutes to the local pool for a fun dip and play time. *The playground is right beside the pool.  Convenient huh?*
So the fringe, lace, silver, and white is really for the sake of me.  Honestly, no one else cared how I was dressed, no one saw it, there was no special occasion.  Just me.  And I felt glamorous all dressed up.

Taking What No One Wants

Tank & Jeans – Gap  //  Vest, Belt & Sunnies – F21  //  Hat – unknown brand  //  Shoes – Rocketdog  //  Necklace – thrifted

My last day in NYC I packed up and walked around airplane ready.  Now for those of you who are imagining me tramping about Central Park here burdened with luggage, I will say this:  I went to NYC for five days with a small backpack that was half full.  I had all my necessary cosmetics, and clothes, in that to last me a week.  Yes, my secret talent is packing lighter than most think is humanly possible.  On the way back, my backpack was full only because I had such great thrifting success!

Case in point:  I picked up this necklace for under $4.

Side note:  thank you once more everyone for hating on this vest.  Because no one wanted it, I grabbed it from the F21 website clearance for a measly $7.  And I love it!

Animal Instincts Come Alive

Dress- Mink Pink  //  Jacket – Old Navy  //  Necklace – H&M  //  Shoes – Rocketdog
The warmth is here in full force.  As the sun comes out and the layers are shed I always think that somehow we shed our inhibitions as well and return to more primal roots.  We become more animal, shall we say, more in tune with our instincts.  Clearly that’s on my mind as I reach for animal print and faux suede fringe detail.
Plus,  whenever I wear animal print, the song, “Wild Women Do” from the Pretty Woman soundtrack plays in my head throughout the day.  We could all use a little Julia Roberts delusion now and then.
