Sometimes you’re in a rush, things are frazzled, and don’t have the choice of taking ideal photos. Those days turn into black and white days. Not only in outfit choices, but also in photography styles. It just seemed right to take this day, this outfit, down to it’s barest essentials – that of black and white. Sometimes it’s just what you need.
Andrew and my Girl had a play date set up with a neighbor. There’s a little boy named Cole who lives a few houses down and his Dad and Andrew decided to arrange a day at the park. So they arrive at our house to pick Andrew and my Girl. Andrew says to our daughter, “We need to go to the toilet before we leave.” He takes her by the hand and starts up the stairs.
My Girl pauses, looks down at Cole and says, “You pick up my blocks…please.” Cole’s dad smirks good naturedly, “At least she said please.” Yup, she’s ordering boys around already.
Sometimes children open their mouths, say something, and you’re left standing there wondering where in the world they got that from.
My Girl was playing with blocks, building a tower to be precise, and it fell over. She huffed, balled her hands into tiny fists and vehement shouted, “Pickles! Oh No!” My head instantly did a quick swivel in her direction, and I was left thinking, “Huh?”
I decided to do some surveillance. And sure enough ‘Pickles!’ is the hip, happening swear word among these young, crazy kids. Well, at least my young, crazy kid.
Well, as much as I’ve been hoping to put away my winter boots, the trip to Ottawa *where it’s even colder than Toronto* had me committed to creating outfits centered once more around these blasted boots! Despite this, the chance to get outfit shots along the river, traipse through uncharted territory made up for the unfortunate limitation of footwear. As did the chocolate store I happened upon…
Some parents worry about their children heading off to school, or daycare, because of the tears their children shed. I don’t have to worry about that particular thing.
Today, I dropped off the little one at a Kindergarten prep course. Her very first class, very first time in the building, and very first time meeting these people. She was off and running away from me before I even got her coat off. Didn’t look back, not once.
When I came to pick her up the teacher said, “Look who’s here to get you!” She turned, took one look at me and frowned, “You forgot my snack, ’cause I had snack time!”
Yup, no issues with independence or being left alone. Really, we’re the transportation and snack providing machinery in her life.
Punk.
I don’t think so. I’m not much into positive thinking. In fact, it kind of drives me up the wall. Why ignore the reality in the faint hope that it’ll change. I’m not really a pessimist – despite people who think I always think of the worst case scenario. As much as I try to be jaded and cynical I fail, as a friend pointed out to me over drinks. So, label me a realist. And that means that sometimes you’re not a happy-go-lucky person. It means that when the circumstances suck, you acknowledge that they do, and you feel crappy about them.
I personally don’t think there’s a problem with that. Yes dwelling is not good, or exaggerating things, or spiraling down into depression. But I see nothing wrong with being sad, or angry, or frustrated over a certain set of circumstances. Every feeling has a certain benefit to it.
To put it another way:
You’re standing and you suddenly look up to see a piano falling down on you. The pessimist despairs and sees no way out, and is crushed. The optimist thinks she’ll be okay, or that it will miss her, and is crushed. The realist sees it, feels the danger and fear, and moves out of the way. Then, if you’re me, goes and finds out who the hell threw a piano!?
*Here endeth the lesson*
Crap. Andrew reads this blog…which means I’m going to be doing a lot for him. But it also means there’s a lot more chocolate and foot massages in my future.
I can live with that.

I’m actually kind of glad that Monday is here. Fresh week, fresh start. Feels great. I’m loving how busy I am and all the things I’m up to. Don’t worry, I’ll share as they become relevant. And hey, I got interviewed on the street today for CPAC. They wanted my political opinions and though I don’t usually speak out about politics, this time the questions were ones that I felt comfortable speaking about.
We’re experiencing an indian summer here and it’s wonderful! Anything that can forestall the cold temperatures makes me happy! These flares and chiffon top were a perfect way to continue this feeling of a laid-back, breezy extension to summer.

Sorry I haven’t been able to post in a while. I’ve been trying to organize my photo archives and have been distracted getting that up and running. And then I was on the air last night hosting – thanks for tuning in those who watched – so I relaxed and enjoyed myself there. Today, I had a great lunch with a fabulous friend as well. and so the days have simply gotten away from me!
But I’m back and good to go and ready for action.
I just discovered Etsy! *well, not really* I had used it before but I just discovered the fabulous assortment of vintage clothing you can get there! So excited! Just browsing is sooo much fun!
True Story: Baby loved eating her lentils and rice this evening! And surprisingly, most of it ended up in her mouth!
Hat – Zellers; Glasses – F21; Shirt – Ruche; Vest – AE; Jeans – Gap; Shoes – AE; Ring – Smart Set; Earrings – F21 |
The dresses were great, but I’m so happy to be putting together different outfits now! I’ve been meaning to wear these flares, like, forever! And I finally got the chance. They’re so long though that I have to wear a pretty mean heel with them. That’s not a big deal, but I felt kind of proud of myself that I managed to spend the whole day walking around Toronto in these wedges. It’s the little things you know???
