Stand By Me

Sweater- Jack from Girl Friday  //  Dress – Kimchi from Beacon’s Closet in NYC  //  Belt – F21 //  Tights – HUE  //  Boots – boutique in Rome, Italy.

When you set up your tripod and take off your jacket to take outfit pictures with your baby in the stroller next to you enough times, eventually she wants to get in on the action.  So as I set up my tripod, and took my place, she insisted on taking her hood off and posing right next to me for the camera.  Then she ran back and forth to double check on the photos.  You know, to make sure we had the shot.  I’m telling you, it’s getting real hard to not show her face here when she stands right beside me smiling into the lens.

Young and Stupid

Did I ever mention that I’m smart?  No really, I swear I am.  I’m so smart I decided that standing in a dress with no coat on, in the middle of a snowstorm, on the way to kids group just to get some pretty pictures was a good idea.   Me and Baby Girl walked there, though maybe I should call her Baby Abominable Snowman since by the time we arrived she was buried under a two inch layer of snow in the stroller, not moving and just glaring at the world with her toddler brows furrowed.
It was all worth it though because not only did she have a great time playing, but I was also asked if I was the babysitter and got a huge, “NO! You’re too young!” when I said I was the mama.  So, I would do it again.  ‘Cause I’m just brilliant that way, or I’m just too young to any better.  *wink wink*

You May Stop Traffic…

Dress – Line & Dot  //  Top – Jacob  //  Belt – thrifted  //  Tights – HUE  //  Boots – Feet First
…but I bring down fences.  Or so I would have you believe.  The truth is a lot less glamorous and not at all flattering to me.  We had a huge storm that blew off the fence separating our backyard from the neighbors.  That’s it.  Nothing fun or glamorous, and kind of depressing considering we’ll have to pay to get the fence re-done in the Spring.  So for now, I’m going to pretend that the fence was just totally blown away by the awesomeness of my dress. ‘Cause that’s a lot more fun, and kind of superpowery too.

Free Shopping Spree

Dress – Le Chateau *hand me down*  //  Tights – F21  //  Hat – made by my mom  //  Boots – Locale
Zebra necklace – Lustre from Montreal  //  Gold Necklace from Ten thousand Villages

I love it when my mom cleans out her closet.  She comes down with garbage bags full of great clothes.  It’s like a fun shopping spree for free!  The best kind, of course. Though we may not be the same size, I always find some fun tops, sweaters, and even the occasional dress. *like the one above*

That’s something to consider when swapping, you don’t have to be the same size.  My mom is shorter and she’s got a little more junk in the trunk.  So I don’t usually get pants because it’s hard to lengthen pants and get the perfect fit, but because she likes her clothes more fitted, and I like a lot of things looser and more flowy I still end up with a great haul.  Something to think about when debating a clothes swap with your friends too – you don’t all have to be the same size.

Now the issue is how to get a bigger closet.

Special Stand Out You

Dress – Trinity  //  Sweater – Darling via Emerging Thoughts  //  Scarf – Kensie  //  Tights – Hansel from Basel  //  Boots – Walmart

Standing out from the crowd is difficult.  How do you stand out from a crowd?  Other than running naked down the street flailing your arms, of course.  Don’t try that by the way, the results are never good.  In theory it’s all about being yourself, but in a crowd of people trying to stand out I don’t know if anyone can ever really do it. With everyone trying to feel special in our society by seeking that recognition of being the “most” at something, I wonder if it’s ever really possible to achieve it.  I don’t know.  Maybe I’m in the crowd so I just can’t see the way, or maybe I’m off to the side standing apart but not out, that I just don’t get it.  But I don’t.

I can’t help but wonder about that line from Hope Floats, “I’m just not special, and that’s okay.”  Maybe not everyone is meant to be special, and maybe that’s okay.
Maybe just being happy is enough.

Ugh, ever have those days where you could just get your pretentious brain to be quite?

Zou Bisou Bisou

Dress & Purse – H&M  // Tights – Hansel from Basel  //  Boots – Feet First  //  Earrings – Threadsence
Eagle Ring – Lulus  //  Black-Gold Ring – F21
New Year’s Eve.  For the first time in three years we had a sitter for the night and can go out.  So out on the town we went.  First stop, a Mad Men themed party.  So instead of channeling Betty, I decided to channel Don Draper’s second (or third depending on how you count it) wife, Megan.  I didn’t have to do a rendition of “Zou Bisou Bisou,”  but the temptation was there.

Also, I’m kind of sad to see Dressember go, but excited to wear pants again.
So show me, how did your last two days of Dressember go?

Fluffy, Furry and Wool

Cardi – Darling via Emerging Thoughts  //  Dress – Blue Pepper  //  Belt – AE  //  Tights – HUE
Thigh Socks – Hansel From Basel  //  Boots – Locale  //  Necklace – Etsy

It just doesn’t get any better than clothes that are soft, fluffy and warm.  Especially when that nagging head cold won’t go away and you just want to wrap yourself in a perpetual blanket.  I wish there was a way to wear a nice hot steaming bath around all day.  But I think that would be not only cumbersome, wet, and messy, but would also violate most, if not all, anti-obscenity laws.
Fluffy cardigan it is.  Not as cozy, but at least it won’t get me arrested.

I Dare You Not To Look *Dressember Link Up*

Top – hand me down  //  Dress – c/o eShakti  //  Tights – HUE
Shoes – Payless  //  Necklaces & Earrings – Ruche

I could not be happier with this red dress from eShakti.  Since having received it back in September and featuring it then, it has just grown and grown in my eyes.  I think I love the LRD more than I love the LBD.   There’s something so coy about  a simply cut dress in such a bold color.  It’s as if you’re outwardly blending in, but inwardly daring people not to look at you.  The subtly subversive side.

I also couldn’t resist featuring my sister in her kick ass animal print dress.  I would so totally steal that.

This week is the last link up for Dressember – so show me your best!!!

At Mom’s House

Sweater – Dear Creatures via Emerging Thoughts  //  Dress – Monteau
Tights – HUE  //  Boots – Feet First

When I’m at my mom’s house I just want to sit and chill in comfy sweaters and under cozy blankets.  So that’s what I did, when I wasn’t running around after a little toddler obsessed with the piano.  I kind of miss the days when I was the kid when I came home, and just had the chance to laze and lounge.  That’s no longer the case as I have my own little one, though it is fun to see her oooh and aaah at the big Christmas tree.

And her obsession with Grandpa does help to give me some time to myself.

Dressember Week Three Link Up

Dress – ModCloth  //  Cardi – H&M  //  Tights – HUE
Boots – Feet First  //  Necklace and Belt – F21
It may be sweet dressing, but I am drawn to big classic floral dresses like this one.  Perhaps my own biting and sarcastic mind is starving to create some sort of balance.  Or perhaps it’s a soft exterior designed to fool and lull into submission.   Whatever the reason, this is the exterior.
Now, let’s see how week three of Dressember went for you.  Link up your post, FB pic or twitter pic.  I’d love to see how things went.  And of course, a link back or button display is much appreciated.
