Elusive Eloquence

Cardi – Esprit
Top – Costa Blanca
Dress –Ruche or Threadsence or Modcloth
Boots – Threadsence
Tights – F21

May I introduce you to the greatest thing in taking self photos, the remote control.  I got mine in the mail a few days back and it makes taking self-portraits with your camera and tripod so much easier!  You do a few test shots to find the lighting and position you like then, snap, snap, snap away.  Love it!
I’m not very eloquent lately in my posts, that probably has to do with the fact that it’s very busy around here with auditions, shoots, rehearsals and table reads.  That, and planning a bridal shower.   Eloquence will return on or after May6th….I hope.

p.s. I revamped my acting site. Take a look!

True Story:
Baby’s going to be a genius.
I know every parent says and thinks that, but I’m right.
She walked into the room with a book.
Sat down on the couch, opened it, and remained there reading intently for the next several minutes.
The book was Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing.”
See I told you.

Ola Senor

Cardi – H&M
Top – hand me down
Skirt – refashioned from old dress
Shoes – stolen from Andrew
Tonight’s companion is Senor Pinot Grigio and two episodes of Community.  We’re old friends, Community, not Senor Grigio to be clear. Senor Grigio and I are acquaintances.   Not often together, but we like a light hearted chat from time to time.  Tonight we’re discussing thoughts long forgotten and how to banish them at unwanted times…that, and how I can get the perfect Britta curl. I can’t ever get it quite right.   Gillian Jacobs, what is your secret?
p.s. Andrew’s in Texas and I really want him to get me some cowboy boots – size 6.5/7 if you’re wondering. It’s a bit of a fantasy.

Alien Zombie Baby

Cardi – Nick&Mo from Trixie in Toronto
Top – Gap
Scarf – Le Chateau
Necklace and Skirt – Ruche
Tights & Earrings – F21
Boots – Feet First

Do you watch The Walking Dead?  Have you
seen the season finale?  It kicked butt!  I saw it late because I’ve
been busy, but here’s a thought.  In the show they’ve discovered that
they are all infected and that when they die – no matter how they die –
they all come back as zombies.  You don’t have to be bitten to turn into
a zombie.  Also, one of the main characters is pregnant.

So here’s where my train of thought goes:
If
she miscarries in her third trimester, does her baby turn into a
zombie?  Does it claw it’s way out like that thing in Alien?  ‘Cause
though it would be really sad, it would also be kind of really cool.

Yeah, I know.
If you think that’s bad, imagine how I feel.  I have to be around myself all the time!

Trifecta of Flattery

Top – H&M
Cardi & Jeans – Gap
Necklace & Shoes – Ruche
Soooo…I’m a sucker for shameless flattery.  Yup.  I’ve figured it out.  People who shamelessly flatter me, not only get exactly what they want, but they also put a true rosy hue on my cheeks.  I can say ‘no’ to a strong case of the compliments, but I often don’t.  Flattery, chocolate, and a foot massage are pretty much the trifecta of getting me to do something for you.

Crap.  Andrew reads this blog…which means I’m going to be doing a lot for him. But it also means there’s a lot more chocolate and foot massages in my future.
I can live with that.

True Story:
Baby’s been obsessed with Grapefruit!
She has at least one a day – maybe even one and a half.
But don’t you dare try to give her an orange!
She’s having none of that.

Hey, Nice Undies

Cardi – Gap
Top & Socks – F21
Skirt – Ruche
Boots – Feet First
Necklace – gift from Mama’s Nest Designs
I had a Marilyn moment without trying to.  Walking home late at night in this skirt the wind was so strong that it completely blew my skirt up in the air.  No one saw though because, as I said, it was late at night.  I was relieved that no one saw it because I would’ve been so embarrassed, but also a little disappointed.  I was having a great leg day and wearing really nice undies, so if someone had to see some time that was the day.  You know it’s going to happen again when I’m wearing grannies and haven’t shaved.  You just know it will!
Remember how this skirt was completely destroyed on the very first day I got it?  Well, thanks to my talented Mother-In-Law it’s been resurrected from the dead. *I may or may not have been watching several episodes of The Walking Dead*  She took some material from the inside of the waist, and using webbing and other magical feats of sewing fixed it right up.  If you look closely you can tell, but when i put it on even knowing where the hole had been it still took me a few second to find it.  So yay!

p.s. I finished editing a recent shoot and posted a few choice pics here.  I’d love for you to check them out!

True Story:
Andrew and I watched the Modern Family episode where the ladies of the house get their cycles synchronized and Andrew turns to me, “I’m scared for when that happens.”
I don’t blame him.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Not A Family Friendly Brat

Top – Gap
Cardi – Anthropologie
Cords – Le Chateau
Boots – Threadsence
Necklace – c/o Scarlet Samples
Last night I did ADR for a short film that I was in not too long ago, and I have to confess I’m a little brat!  *ADR is when you go into the studio and record some lines that may have been lost or fuzzy and match it up to your lips moving – harder than it sounds*
You see the film is about serious stuff, and the lines are serious stuff – people arguing, dying, etc. etc.  – but I couldn’t resist turning some of those lines into shall we say less-than-family-friendly material? It was just too tempting.  those lines, without context and the way we recorded some of the things were just begging for it!  And I’m not one to turn that down.  The screening is in a few weeks, and I’m so excited to see the whole thing on screen!

Tuck That Right In

Cardi – Old Navy
Dress – Trashy Diva
Shoes – Payless
Earrings & Necklace – c/o/ This Enchanted Pixie

I’ve got some really great friends! We had an impromptu Snakes&Lattes meet up. *For everyone, Snakes&Lattes is a cafe where you pay a small cover then play every and any board game imaginable – it’s nerd heaven….so it’s my heaven!*  Fun games and even met two new people that I’ll maybe see again at another meet up.  And I’ve got an epic BSG game planned for Saturday March 31st…with both expansions.   Okay, is my nerd showing?  Oops, I think it’s peeking out the hem of my dress.  Let’s just tuck that right back in there.

p.s. yes, this is the same cardi as in this post.  I re-wear stuff.  I’ve only got one closet…for now. *insert evil laugh here*

True Story:
Baby’s developed a serious obsession with grapefruits.
She eats one to one and a half per day.
But don’t try to give her an orange instead.
She’ll “Neo!” and shake her head to set you straight.

Flash Thanks

Top – Thrifted
Skirt – Spotted Moth
Cardi – Old Navy
Hat &Shoes – Ruche
Necklace – won from a giveaway and I can’t remember from who

Yesterday I had a really rough day,  I mean really rough.  I won’t go into the details because that’s not the pertinent part, but let’s just say I was not a happy camper.  Having money set aside for just such days, I tweeted that I needed one of my favorite stores to have a flash sale so I can partake of some retail therapy.  I didn’t really expect a response, you know?  Lo and behold, Lauren from Emerging Thoughts tweets and facebooks with a one hour flash sale in my honor.  I was touched!  *I also picked up a gorgeous Dear Creatures dress I was hoping to get*

We’re in the middle of Blog Positivity week and I can’t express how much I appreciate the relationships I’ve formed with some amazing people online.   Like Lauren from Emerging Thoughts.  She’s a wonderful lady with a great eye for curating her boutique, and a great personality all around.  I’ve never met her in person, only online.  Through blogs and social media,  I’ve made connections with bloggers, retailers and just great people all around.

I’d like to thank you all.

True Story:
Baby has grasped the full extent and meaning of the word ‘No’, or ‘neoo’ as she says it.
*accompanied by the obligatory head shake*
Here’s a recent conversation.
“Do you want to eat dinner?”
“Neoo”
“Okay, well Mama’s going to eat dinner.”
“Neoo”
“Do you want to go take a bath?”
“Neoo”
“Well, Mama has to go to the bathroom”
“Neoo!”
“No?”
“Neoo.”

Dare I Hope For Soon?

Dress – Ruche
Sweater – made by my Babcia
The warm front we had for a few days made it seem like the fresh joy of Spring was just around the corner.  Now it’s freezing outside again.  So cold, that neither man nor beast dares to venture out of doors.  I long for the days when I pull out my sunhat and sunglasses and leave the toque and scarf abandoned in the far corner of the closet.  So I look wistfully outside my windows and wonder, “Maybe soon?”
Dare I hope?
True Story:
Drake the Dog reached for baby’s food.
She frowned, looked at him and said, “No, no, no” while wagging her finger.
It’s funny to see yourself reflected in your toddler’s eyes.

Key To A Large And Lasting Wardrobe

Sweater  – Esprit
Dress – Ruche
Necklace – Mama Nest Designs
Tights – Hue
Boots – Locale

Some friends over the years have remarked about the large closet of clothes I own, and they’re right I do own a lot.  But here’s the secret to the *as a friend once put it* ‘most extensive wardrobe I’ve ever seen’ : meticulous care, flexibility, and patience.

I have clothes I got in high school still hanging in my closet and they’re still in good condition because I care for my pieces.  I take care to follow the instructions on the label and make sure that everything is treated well so that it lasts.  What I mean by meticulous care is following the washing, ironing, and hanging instructions so as to prolong the life of the article.  That doesn’t mean I treat my clothes like museum pieces.  I’ll wear my
pretty dresses in the park with Baby and don’t care if they get muddied
and dirty.  After all, it’s about looking good while you live your life.

Also, I never say no.  When someone offers a hand me down bag of clothes, or my mom spring/winter cleans her closet I never turn it down.  Chances are I’ll find one or two pieces in there that I can work into my wardrobe in an unique way.

Finally, patience.  I like to shop and purchase fun pieces, but I don’t have a huge budget nor do I like to spend a lot on clothes.  So I’ll wait.  I’ll save my birthday and X-mas money for months and months, sometimes I have gift certificates from the season before still in my wallet when the next holiday rolls around.  If I see a dress, top, or skirt I really like I won’t buy it.  I’ll wait.  I’ll wait for a discount code, or a sale, or something else of that nature.  If I miss it and it sells out, no worries, there will be something else just as pretty soon enough…and it just might be 50% off.  Basically, don’t get attached to a piece then you won’t ‘have to have’ it, and two months from now it may be on sale.

Just one last note, don’t be afraid to return.  If it doesn’t work, fit or for some reason you doubt it.  Return it.  No harm, no foul.  That’s what those policies are for.

p.s. I love that the sock bun is making a resurgence.  I’ve been doing this
for years now, but lately it seems every blogger is talking about it.
So yay! I’m so glad that foot wear in your hair is becoming mainstream.
The best part is the curls it leaves you with afterwards.  Just like the
ones you see in the pictures.

True Story:
Baby stood on the edge of the toilet even though I told her not to.
She fell right in.  Soaked to the waist.
She started crying, clearly traumatized.
I stripped her, changed her, and held her…while giggling to myself just a wee bit.
Another bad mother moment.
