Daily Exuberance

Baby Girl goes to the shed with me every morning.  We open the doors and reveal her pink tricycle in it’s nightly slumber.  This reveal is accompanied by a very over pronounced and energetic, “Oooooooooh!” Followed immediately by, “Wow! I like my bike!!” I just love how this simple event evokes such joy from her.
How do we lose that as we age?

MASH For Hard Times

Jacket – F21  //  Top – SammyDress  //  Jeans – Gap  //  Boots – Feet First  //  Necklace – H&M Icon Collection
Have you guys ever seen MASH?  I haven’t, but I’ve been watching it recently from the very beginning and I must say I love it.  The quirky, campy feel of it, especially considering the subject matter, hits a perfect note.  I think it’s especially applicable considering the tragedies that happen all around the world today.  Even in the worst places, and the worst times, joy and humor can be found.  They help us get through it.
Thinking of you Boston.

Occupy Winter

There’s new growth and sunshine, and though my heart does not rise with it yet, my brain knows it’s only a matter of time before the warmth and light of the sun push aside the dark and dreary nooks of the spirit left by the grey of Winter, and take up permanent residence.  Until such time, the softness of loose cotton, raw silks, and soft knits will keep me company and blur the hard lines.

Geeked Out

So in stark contrast to yesterday’s post, I’m completely and utterly dressed down and geeked out.  Yup, that’s a word.  Geeked.  The official definition in the dictionary has my picture next to it.  In fact, this exact picture.  Or maybe the picture in any of my other Star Wars shirts.  Oh yes, there are more than one.  ‘Cause just like good chips, you can’t have just one.

On Personal Style

Style.  It’s an elusive thing, that sense of personal style.  I see other people who have it down pat in their personal aesthetic. Never deviating from it.  I can’t seem to do the same thing. There are so many different styles and silhouettes that I want to wear day to day.  I swing from feminine frocks, like this lovely one sent to me by eShakti from their Spring collection, to rocker chic, to boho chic, to casual and contemporary.  It seems that my personal style is not one particular aesthetic but more of a reflection of self and mood on any given day.

I like frills and poufy skirts one day, pleather and studs the next, and soft lace and loose fits on yet another.  I know people say you need to nail down a personal style.  But I ask why?   I like to think that I’m a multifaceted individual, so why can’t I express those various sides of me depending on how I feel that day?  I see nothing wrong with playing with the freedom that fashion provides.

Course, I may be aggrandizing the fact that I have as yet to nail down one aesthetic and stick to it in the name of ‘Personal Style’.

Office Days

I’m working in an office part time now, so you may see a bit more office wear from me.  But here’s the caveat, it’s office wear from me; so, no stodgy blazers and cardigan sets.  I like how office wear has become loosened and become more creative.  Yes, with 20 minutes to get ready I put together this fun office appropriate number.  I loved that I was the only one in the elevator wearing color and red no less!  It made me smile, and there’s no better way to start your day than with a big grin.

Bon Jovi Twirls

Cooked Marrakesh Curried Stew tonight while listening to Faith Hill and then Bon Jovi.  Hey, I’m not ashamed of the love I bear for Country Western and Rock.  Not ashamed at all.  Faith Hill and I cried while I chopped the onions and Baby Girl and I rocked out on the living room dance floor to Bon Jovi.  Bet you didn’t know that Bon Jovi has a great twirling and bouncing beat.

Betcha didn’t know.

Broken Kettle

Sweater – F21  //  Top – ModCloth  //  Jeans – Gap  //  Boots – Locale  //  Bag & Necklace – Ruche

Do you know why I have a slight grimace in these pictures?  Because it’s freezing!  It was so cold I almost got frostbite in the five minutes it took to take these pictures.  I had to warm up my fingers to get the feeling back enough to put my camera away.   Why do I say this?  I say this to reiterate why I hate this time of year.

Oh and to add insult to injury our kettle broke.  So I’m boiling water for my tea in a pot over the stove.  In a pot people.

Young and Stupid

Did I ever mention that I’m smart?  No really, I swear I am.  I’m so smart I decided that standing in a dress with no coat on, in the middle of a snowstorm, on the way to kids group just to get some pretty pictures was a good idea.   Me and Baby Girl walked there, though maybe I should call her Baby Abominable Snowman since by the time we arrived she was buried under a two inch layer of snow in the stroller, not moving and just glaring at the world with her toddler brows furrowed.
It was all worth it though because not only did she have a great time playing, but I was also asked if I was the babysitter and got a huge, “NO! You’re too young!” when I said I was the mama.  So, I would do it again.  ‘Cause I’m just brilliant that way, or I’m just too young to any better.  *wink wink*

…but I bring down fences.  Or so I would have you believe.  The truth is a lot less glamorous and not at all flattering to me.  We had a huge storm that blew off the fence separating our backyard from the neighbors.  That’s it.  Nothing fun or glamorous, and kind of depressing considering we’ll have to pay to get the fence re-done in the Spring.  So for now, I’m going to pretend that the fence was just totally blown away by the awesomeness of my dress. ‘Cause that’s a lot more fun, and kind of superpowery too.
