Appreciation, It’s A Hard Thing

Top & Earrings – F21   //  Jeans – Gap  //  Boots – c/o Dansko
It’s a casual day.  A slow day today.  A day where I get to lounge.  Translation:  I get to have a 10 k run, catch up on emails, edit photos, and do research for a new project that I’m trying to get off the ground.  So you know, practically nothing.  But it does feel that way at this moment.
It feels like I should be on set, memorizing lines, or running to an audition.  We always want what we can’t have and we never fully appreciate what we do have.
So I’m going to do my best and appreciate this slow time.  This week of rest, research and catch up.  Oh and a facial from Pure+Simple!  Can’t wait to show you guys that experience.

Repeat, Repeat, Repeat *And a New Link Up announced*

Sweater – Smart Set //  Tank & Jeans – Gap  //  Boots – Feet First  //  Necklace – c/o Atterley Road  //  Scarf – c/o Sexton In The City  //  Ring – Body Blue Toronto  //  Bag – unknown
People often ask me if it’s okay to repeat outfits.  And my answer is always, “Of Course!”  If you find a great combo use it.  Use it and re-work it, repeat it, whatever.  Often just changing a necklace or earrings is enough to add some freshness.  I do this all the time.  Mix up pieces I’m loving and re-wearing fun outfits.  There’s nothing wrong with it.
We seem to have this idea that everyday has to be new and different.  But think about those things we love:  our favorite book, favorite movie, favorite grandma’s stew.  We love them because they’re great and they never change.  I don’t see the problem with a great outfit either.

NEW LINK UP!  On that note, I’ve been wanting to do a fun link up for a long time.  And I’ve finally got the idea for one.  With Thursday being the unofficial start of  the weekend, and with the weekend being a time when we feel it’s okay to break some rules, I’m going to be hosting a Thursday link-up all about breakin’ the rules in fashion. *’Cause I don’t really think there are any*  Link up starts next Thursday October 10th.  I hope you join me.

And the first rule I want you to break is : No white after labor day.  So antiquated.  Let’s show ’em how fabulous we look breakin’ all the rules.  Style an outfit that breaks this rule and link up next Thursday.  Easy peasy!

When You Have That Child

Cardi – Beulah  //  Tee – Unknown  //  Scarf – street stand  //  Pants – Le Chateau  //  Boots – bought in Roma, Italy

Baby girl went to her first ballet class.  Yes, she did.  And she looked so cute in her bodysuit and tights.  But Andrew and I sat there both rather embarrassed.  You see, we have that child.  You know the one.  That child that runs around while all the other girls are nicely in a circle.  The one who sits down while everyone dances.  And the one who pouts in a corner because the music stopped, and she wants to touch something she was told not to.  Yup, we have that kid.  And while it’s funny now, at the moment we looked at all the other parents, who looked right back at us with that other look in their eyes.

On set recently, I recounted this story and my friend said to me, “Look around at everyone here.  We were all probably that child.”  It’s true.  I was.  I turned out *sorta* all right.  As did those other folks on set.

Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder..Or Something Like That

Top – thrifted // Tank – hand me down // Jeans – Gap //  Boots – c/o Dansko  //  Necklace – Lustre Boutique
Shooting the first block of Synchronicity last week was great – apologies for my absence here.  Those of you who follow on Instagram saw a lot of the behind the scenes.  Also, I’ll be posting updates on my acting site regularly so you might want to check that out too *more details and pictures from the shoot*.  This was actually a ‘to set’ outfit.  Driving two hours means I want to be comfy all the way.
Getting back to regular life has been hard, mostly due to the fact that I’m soooo tired for some reason.  I’m dragging and not really feeling very motivated.  But that doesn’t mean anything. I’ve gotten back to work on client photos and other things.  Looking forward to getting some rest too!
p.s.  Can you believe that it’s September?!?!?!

These Boots Were Made For Walkin’

Jacket – Zara  //  Top – unknown  //  Jeans – Gap  //  Boots – c/o Dansko  //  Sunnies – F21
You know how they say shoes make the outfit?  Well they do.  These cool Dansko boots have a great weight and feel to them.  Such that they give me a bit of a strut.. and hells yeah I’ll take that.  I put on the outfit and felt good about it, but when I put on the shoes all of a sudden I got a bit of rockstar attitude.  Yes, I know it’s all in my head and I’m not really a rockstar but hey that’s what clothes are for right?  To play pretend.
The boots are really what did it.  Despite the fact that my bootcut pants covered the top of them *side note:  can’t wait to wear them with a cute dress to show off the button detail*  they added a great finesse to my whole day.  I love the classic cut with a little unique detailing.  It’s something that can go with anything in your closet, and be timeless, but still have a bit of stand alone edge.
Oh and yeah, they’re super comfy.  My feet were not sore after a whole day of walking, meetings, and biking.  Yes, I biked in them all around Toronto.  That’s just how I roll.

Indulgent In Me

Dress – Zara  //  Jacket – thrifted  //  Sandals – F21  //  Necklace – I forget
The heat has made it so that every day is a swim day.  And Baby Girl is really sad about it. *sarcasm fully intended*   I really did nothing else but hang about the house and then head for a swim.  She and I trekked the 10 minutes to the local pool for a fun dip and play time. *The playground is right beside the pool.  Convenient huh?*
So the fringe, lace, silver, and white is really for the sake of me.  Honestly, no one else cared how I was dressed, no one saw it, there was no special occasion.  Just me.  And I felt glamorous all dressed up.
p.s.  Remember to enter the cool Gracie B giveaway.

Shedding some Skin

Dress – Lush //  Necklace – don’t recall  //  Belt & Bracelet – F21  //  Boots – Feet First
Heat & humidity.  Oh joy.  I love the heat but could easily do without the humidity.  Now biking around town brings a whole different type of experience to it.
I have to say that despite everything I love the chance to strip down from all the layers that I wear most of the time here.  It’s nice to think that boots and some jewelry are all I need to accessorize.
Plus, I must say that biking home at midnight in this weather is great.  Cool breezy and the city is just glorious.

More Than Aphrodite

Dress – Mango //  Jacket & Belt – F21  //  Necklace – Threadsence  //  Boots – Feet First
Black, textured, and chiffon.  This dress feel like it was made for me.  Something about the loose, drapey quality of it makes me feel like some kind of goddess.  Not that I am one mind you, just feel that way.  Though if I were to be a goddess, I think I would choose to be Artemis – the goddess of wilderness, the hunt, and animals.  More than Aphrodite, which seems to be the one everyone goes for, I love the athleticism and uncontrolled quality of Artemis.  The wild and unpredictable wildness, coupled with the grounded nature of the animal kingdom.  Yeah, I’d go with that.

*I’d love for you to continue to vote for me daily in the Wallis Summer Stylist Contest*

Wallis Summer Stylist

Top- c/o Wallis  //  Pants & Necklace – F21  //  Shoes – Threadsence  //  Sunnies – Lace Affair  //  Bracelet – thrifted
I’m taking part in the Wallis Summer Stylist Contest.  Basically, if you vote for me I might win a shopping spree and be featured on the Wallis website as their select stylist.  Can I just say that this would be amazing?  I would love this chance to share my style with a new group of incredible ladies.
I chose this amazing top, and when it came I was overwhelmed with the ideas that flowed into my head.  But since this contest is a new thing for me, I thought I’d try two new things and pair it with colored pants.  I know!  I’ve never worn colored jeans here before.  I like how the tones played off of each other and how the bold pant brought out the darker aspects of the top.  Since the pattern on the blouse was so bold, I kept everything else in terms of accessories minimal, allowing the print to speak for itself.
The tribal and ocean air feel of this top has me enthralled.  I would love your support on the Wallis Facebook page with a vote for the win

The Classic Combo…

Dress -ASOS  //  Sweater – Smart Set  //  Boots – Call it Spring  //  Necklace – gift

…a dress and cardigan.  Throw in a pair of boots like I have and the result is a veritable cliche of dressing.  But you know my thoughts on a cliche?  It’s there for a reason.  This sartorial cliche exists because those things fit together.  I love this trifecta of clothing, and I’m not giving it up no matter how cliche that is.  ‘Cause I’m no quiter *sorry, to throw in an actual cliche somewhere*

p.s. I’m downright giddy that I can wear dresses and boots without tights right now.
