The bath was done, the teeth brushed, pajamas on, story read, and it was time to turn out the light and cuddle. I snuggled up with my little girl as she reached for both her blankie and to wrap a little arm around my neck. A few moments of silence, both of us just breathing. Then out of this stillness comes a little voice, “Mama?”

“Yes,” I replied.

“You know what?”

“What, darlin’?”

“I’m going to be a great mom when I grow up,” she whispered.

“I know you are,” I said giving her a little kiss on the nose.

“You know why?”

“Why?”

In a sudden excited tone she said, ” Because she’s only going to be allowed one candy. Not two! No matter how much she asks, I’m going to say, ‘No, just one candy!'”

That’s the secret to being a great mom, apparently.
