Inappropriate Things I Say

Top – F21; Dress – Lulus; Ring – Spotted Moth; Tights – Hue; Boots – Locale.

Oh goodness gracious my mouth gets me in trouble!  I’m one of those people who just says things, sometimes without thinking.   I say them because I think they’re funny, or true, or odd.  But sometimes I don’t realize what I’m saying until it’s far too late, and I can’t take it back.  I realize an hour afterwards that what I said could be totally interpreted in another way – a mean way, or inappropriate way.  And that’s not where I’m coming from at all.  I don’t mean anyone ill will, unless you’re that idiot on the crowded bus who’s shouting into his cellphone like the person is two football stadiums away. And even then, I don’t wish him ill will….maybe a hemorrhoid or two. But otherwise, I very much believe in live and let live. I just wish my mouth would get on board.

Really.  Please?  Will you just once, co-operate please?

I say stupid things a lot: wise-cracks, smart ass comments, sarcasms, inappropriate examples, dirty jokes, must I go on? Things that I regret or cringe at when I’m trying to fall asleep, and wish I could take back because they were stupid, dumb, embarrassing, TMI, or really just take your pick.  I wish that I could learn to hold my tongue.  I’ve been on this planet a certain number of years, and I still haven’t gotten the hang of it.

I’m just thankful for the friends I have that have learned to see past this little flaw quirk of mine, and see that I’m fiercely loyal, trustworthy, dependable and well-meaning.  I have and will drop everything if a friend’s in need and be there to support you if you need it.  Just ignore the things I say which might be stupid, dumb, embarrassing, TMI, or really just take your pick.

Reverse Raindance

Sweater – F21; Dress – Ruche; Tights – Hue; Boots – Petite Pieds.

These rain boots are magic.  Honestly!  Every time I wear them it instantly stops raining.  They’re like raindance shoes, but in reverse in that they stop the rain.  Then, when I came inside for the day and put these boots away, it started raining again. You think I’m joking, but the last seven times I’ve worn them in the rain, it stopped raining within 10 minutes.  Honestly!

Oh, and I absolutely adore this dress!  It’s so perfect and magical and I love the simple horse print on it.  The material  is a soft silky type that feels just so decadent and indulgent.  And the subtle sweetheart neckline with a cross-over back is flattering on everyone! *when it’s warm enough outside to wear it without layering of course, like here*  I originally got it from Ruche here, but they only have a couple left, so you can get it here, from Modcloth, too *especially if you’re looking for a medium*, and if you like the idea of black and pink, get the dress in this color from ShopSosie instead!

p.s. no I didn’t wear the same tights two days in a row.  I’m just a little behind and disjointed on outfit shots.  I wore them two days apart.

p.p.s.  Check out some behind the scenes shots that the fabulous make-up artist took at my latest shoot!

Silence Is Golden

Dress & Tights – F21; Sweater – made by my Babcia; Socks – Ruche; Boots – Threadsence.

I’ve had a crazy day!  I haven’t processed everything and it’s been just a lot of running around and dealing with things.  But I’m loving the moment of quiet right now.  The silence and stillness is so very comforting and soothing.  I’m basking in the lack of movement in the house.  It’s a glorious feeling.  Too often we’re so busy to get places and do things that we don’t really appreciate the power of silence.

I’m going to take a moment.  Join me.

True Story:
Tampons.
Taking them out of the box and putting them into the box.
One by one.
45 minutes of pure focused, counting fun.
Who knew!

Nerdy Versus Cute

Sweater – F21; Shirt – AE; Jeans – Guess; Shoes – Sketchers.

I was really concerned that this sweater would be too cutsy for me, but I love penguins so much I got it anyway and just made sure that I wouldn’t pair it with a full, floral skirt.  That I think, would be too cutsy for me.  Instead, I wore it with ripped jeans and plain sneakers.  I thought that would ground the sweater a bit more in preppy chic that cute-little-girl.  Do I think about this too much?  Am I the only one who is concerned about this?  Maybe.  Maybe I should just get the heck over it.

True Story:
You know that infinity scarf with a hood I have?
Baby loves it too!
She wears it around dragging the back on the floor, and lays down to cuddle with it.

To Bang Or Not To Bang

Top – H&M; Sweater – F21; Scarf – somewhere in Europe; Jeans – Guess; Shoes – Payless.

I flip flop back and forth as to whether I should keep my bangs or not. Granted, I’m very happy that this is my biggest concern right now.  So yesterday, I chop, chop, chopped them off! This is what I do, I grow them out and chop them off, always in the midst of indecision.

Do you guys have a things like that?

And speaking of bangs, I’ve decided that I’m not going to give Baby bangs.  My mama always did that whole bowl haircut thing, and though I know it was the easy choice and I totally understand that now that I’m a mama, I always hated the bangs.  Straight across and blunt cut.  Ugh!  Gives me shivers just thinking about those grade school pics right now.  So I’m going to try to persevere and resist the temptation to cut and give her bangs too.

First, she has to grow some hair though.  The little baldy has hair on the top and back, makin’ an awesome mohawk, but she’s seriously lacking some side coverage.

p.s.  I’m not crazy about this outfit, but my commitment to you guys is honesty, so in that vein I was obliged to show you what I wore.

A Great Tip For Mixing Prints

Shirt – AE; Sweater – F21; Jeans – Guess; Shoes – Payless.

How much do I love the fact that I’m wearing nerdy chic with ripped jeans?  A lot!  It’s so much fun to mix styles and patterns together that “shouldn’t” go together.  Like the fact that I’m wearing a checkered shirt with a poodle sweater.  I read a great tip today in December’s Marie Claire about mixing prints: “Lay out the items that you plan to mix.  Now squint your eyes.  Each item should remain separate and distinct when examined in this way.” Isn’t that a great little tip?

I’m on set for the next three days, so I’m going to try to keep posting, but you’ll forgive me if I’m a little lax about it until Monday, right?  I’ll be sure to have lots of pictures for you to see over on my acting site.

Hair Please

Shirt – Smart Set; Sweater – Ruche; Jeans – Gap; Boots – Feet First.

I miss my long hair.  I mean I really miss it!  And though I don’t regret chopping off all my hair last year at all – it was totally the right thing to do, I don’t have the patience to grow out my hair.  It takes too long.  So, I’m wondering about hair extensions.  I don’t really know anything about them.  So I’m reaching out to you guys.  What are they like?  What’s the maintenance?  Do they damage your hair?  How much do they cost?  I heard they can be a lot -which would be sucky since that’s not something I can spend a lot of money on – so it’s probably not gonna happen, but I thought I’d look into it anyway.  Anyone know anyplace in Toronto where you can get them cheap?

I’m a hair extension virgin.  So what are your thoughts?

Rebellion Of Bad Mother

Look how cute Drake the Dog is!

Pin – c/o Blue Eyed Owl; Sweater – Jacob; Gloves – Ruche; Jeans – Guess; Boots – Petite Pieds.

When I get something I like, or simply when I remember that I like something a lot, I tend to wear it like mad for several days or weeks straight. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one. It’s happening with these boots, and it’s also happening with this set of pinwheel bobby pins you see in my hair that I recently received as well.

These pins have me addicted and obsessed. There’s something about the shape and movement in a pinwheel.  I think it’s a way to combat, nay embrace, the blustery winds we’re having here right now.  Or maybe their cheery colors are my small Spring rebellion against the grayness and cold of Fall.

True Story:
Baby has a cold.  Boo, yeah, whatevs.  Here’s the point:
When she sneezes her entire head goes forward at a great force.
So standing beside me this morning while I make my tea, she sneezes. Hard.
And slams her head into the dishwasher.
She cries.
I laugh.
I’m a bad mother.
tee hee.

Oh Fail.

This shot was me trying to get into place on time, but I failed.  I just thought it was funny.  So I wanted to share it with you.

Sweater – made by my Babcia, Scarf – somewhere in Europe; Pants – Billabong.

So I tried to rag curl my hair yesterday after I saw a tutorial online.  It failed miserably.  I think maybe I did it too tight, or my hair’s too short.  I’ll try again sometime soon.  I’m determined to get it right ’cause it looks so cute when it works out.  Anyway, that’s why my hair’s up right now.  ‘Cause it’s a wild and crazy mess, but not in a good way.   Do you have ideas on how to wear your hair on a bad hair day?

You can’t tell from these pics, but it’s grey and rainy and wet today.  I’m spending the day inside watching Netflix.  Boo.

Air Conditioning Overkill

Necklace – F21; Earrings – somewhere in Europe; Tank – thrifted; Sweater – Costa Blanca; Cargos – Esprit; Shoes – Rocketdog (Winners).

You know one thing I don’t like about summer?  The studio becomes crazy air-conditioned, so that even on the hot, hot days I have to wear *or bring* a sweater and have my legs covered.  I’m not a fan of such strong air-conditioning; the environmentalist in me gets livid at the use of energy.  But that’s the reasoning behind this outfit.  It was light enough to wear outside, and with the pants rolled up, it allowed me to stay cool, while at the same time the sweater and the fact that I could roll down my pants kept me warm once I got to the studio and settled in for the evening live on-air shift.

And I have to say it was a great shift in that we aired some fabulous movies and and I had a lot to say.  I also said some silly things, but hey, I’m a nerd what can you do?
