Nowhere Near Spartacus

Dress – Numph via Bloom
Jacket – Gap
Shoes – Payless
Belt – H&M
Necklace & Sunnies – F21

Some days I feel just so uninspired when it comes to getting dressed.  Today was one of those days.  Seriously, if you were in my bedroom with me *although why would you be?!?* you’d have heard lots of groans, and sighs, and “ughs” and had lots of belts, necklaces and several dresses tossed in your direction.  Now, I realize that this could sound like the opening lines of a Spartacus Roman scene *you know what I’m talkin’ about…wink wink* but trust me when I say that it was nowhere near as sexy, definitely not as well lit, but probably in a similar state of undress.

My new obsession is Palazzo pants.  I mean how awesome are they?!  Loose, free flowing and totally comfy pants.  It’s like suddenly being allowed to wear sweatpants in public!
The best part was that for biking I had to tie my polka dot shoe ties around my ankles so as to not get the pants caught in the spokes and it totally made me look like M.C. Hammer in U Can’t Touch This!  I’d like to think I’m just as cool and just as well accessorized. I’ve never met James Brown though.

p.s.  they are the best PMS pants ever.  Loose with an elasticized waist for those days that you suddenly feel like you’re larger than the entire Atlantic and Pacific oceans combined.

p.p.s. Did I mention the elasticized waist?

…with fictional exploits of my imaginary life.  With the jaunts, the wishful thinkings, and the could-have-been of my fantasties.  Let me captivate you with all the possible presents, and the likely futures.  Let me regale you with all the things that are becoming. The wonders and the miracles.
Just don’t ask me to tell you of my failures, or my dreams unfulfilled.
Can you miss an opportunity that never existed?

The Start of The B.C. Madness

I flew from Toronto to Vancouver, and then got on a tin little propeller plane to take me into rural B.C.  Now, I’ve traveled a lot, but always on big huge jumbo jets, and this tiny little thing made me wonder if I had to wear a parachute and sit in a cargo plane. But no.  It was quite luxurious inside, just small.

The view from the plane as I came in.

Sitting on the deck just after arriving was super.  Just relaxing with all the mountains around me.

The food has been just so delicious and wonderfully spiced.  The chef is pictured here and not only does he make great food, but he also provides adult beverages to accompany it, music to match, and jokes for a good belly laugh.

Fashion Icon Misconceptions

Sunnies & Shoes – F21
Dress – Modcloth (sold out)
Whenever anyone thinks of Audrey Hepburn they always think of stark, well-tailored black pieces.  But they seem to forget Ms. Hepburn’s incredible affinity for dresses, full skirts, florals, and white capris with brightly colored shirts.  And let’s not forget that no one could rock a hot pink Givenchy suit quite like her.
It’s interesting the boxes we put style icons in.  I’m guilty of this as much as anyone, but style icons are just that because of their understanding of fashion and it’s malleability. I’m trying to break the boxes I’ve created in my own head to, both in relation to myself and those I consider icons.
True Story:
Baby Girl took my big floppy hat and put it on Drake the Dog while he was sleeping.
How do I know this?
I saw a small furry butt sticking out the backend of my hat and Baby Girl giggling as she looked at it.

We all know the ‘secrets’ to living a healthy lifestyle.  It’s not magic.  Good diet, plenty of exercise, and low stress.  So I’m not going to tell you any of this.  You know it.  I know it.  We all know it.  But here’s what I will say.  My best kept secret to a healthy life?  My amazing naturopath!

I don’t go to a regular General Practitioner anymore.  I go for my regular yearly check- up, and if I broke my leg I’d go to a hospital.  But when it comes to my day-to-day quality of life, sickness, and other ailments I see my talented naturopathic doctor, Jennifer Forgeron.  She has literally changed and saved my life as well as the lives of some friends I’ve sent to her.  She helped me to heal myself when 7-9 specialists *from oncologists, to hematologists, to rheumatoid specialists* had no idea of what was even happening to me.  I think the idea behind naturopathic medicine is the key: help the body heal itself.

Now, I’m talking about homeopathy, herbs and Chinese medicine.  These ones have definitely proven their mettle to me.  And the key is to find a really good and very capable naturopathic doctor.  They are not all made the same.

That’s my two cents.
This in no way replaces the advice of a qualified health care professional – whether natural or not.

What I Share With You

Through a recent comment, I had a great conversation with a reader named Dawn about some issues she brought up in her post, and issues I brought up in my first post.  We were discussing the issue of privacy and our choices regarding that. Namely, posting our child’s pictures on the net and sharing intimate details of our lives. I don’t post full face shots of my girl.  It’s my choice to maintain a level of her privacy. *Please don’t assume that this in any way takes away or belittles your choice to post your child’s pictures*

Dawn also brought up the issue of whether you can have a real connection if you don’t share everything.  I responded with this:

“I try to be as open
as I feel comfortable – which isn’t everything – while guarding her
privacy.  Also, you can still make connections.  I don’t tell the friend
I have coffee with everything about my life, but that doesn’t mean the
connection is any less genuine.  I don’t tell co-workers everything and
again, they are real connections.  So no, I don’t think you have to
share everything to have a connection as long as you’re genuine in what
you do share.

I just wanted to bring you in on this conversation and say that while you may not know the intimate details of my life, what I do say to you and what I do share is 100% me and sincere.

That’s the best I can offer.  Hopefully, that’s enough.

Asked about a simple healthy tip, I would answer, “Discover your intolerances.”  Food intolerance is not the same as allergies.  You may not go into shock like you would in an allergy, but your body still can’t handle it.  Signs of intolerance can be mood changes, gas, bloating, cramps, inflammation, and other issues.   I’m intolerant to gluten, dairy, and soy.  I won’t have to go to the hospital or anything, but I do get all those things I mentioned.  My body has thanked me since I’ve stopped eating them.  So, yeah.  That’s my tip.  Discover your intolerances.  A good Naturopathic doctor can help.

I’m going to see some Fringe Festival plays today as part of a fun gig to review them for Mooney on Theatre.  Definitely looking forward to getting out there and having a good time. It’s been a wonderful week so far filled with photoshoots, kung fu classes, audits of acting classes, and now this!  Keep it coming July.  Next up, several other projects, including the premiere of Posthuman on SFNTV.com, before I leave on the 22nd for my best friend’s wedding.  Oh yeah!

p.s. Due to the amazing response to the Coffee Talk: Posing vlog, I’ll definitely be adding a video element to ModaMama.  Next vlog coming at you on July 13th!

The Fantasy Does Not Become Reality

This is the fashion blogger I sometimes fantasize I am.

But then, just like that blurred head in the foreground of the photo, reality infringes.
And this is the fashion blogger I really am.

I’m okay with that.
