Doctor Who Tee – TeeFury  //  Cardigan – Hem&Thread  //  Jeans – Gap  //  Boots – Threadsence  //  Socks – UO  //  Scarf – thrifted

I had a client scheduled for a shoot yesterday morning.  I woke up early and left the house early in the morning as well, ensuring that I would have plenty of time to set up and test all my gear.  You know how we all revert to the tried and true uniform of comfort when it’s early and we have a very limited window of opportunity to get ready?  Well this is pretty much mine:  jeans, nerd tee, boots, scarf, and cardigan.  Oh and of course I had no time to do me hair, it’s still super straight from a few days ago.

There you have it folks – full disclosure.

Red Nosed Winter Boots

Epic fail as a fashion blogger.  That’s what this Winter has caused.  I’m wearing the same warm winter boots in every outfit because that’s the only thing that I can wear without my toes freezing off!  How sad is that?  Plus, my shots – excepting today – are mostly just outside my home as it’s way too cold to travel far for some inspired backgrounds.  And finally, there’s perpetual red nose on me *that I could photoshop away, except that I’d like to stay honest with you guys* from the bitter wind.

I’m sooo way past ready for Spring.

Have a great weekend.  See ya for more red nosed, winter boot outfits.

How To Avoid Being Crushed By A Piano *Or, The World According To Joanna*

I don’t think so.  I’m not much into positive thinking.  In fact, it kind of drives me up the wall.  Why ignore the reality in the faint hope that it’ll change.  I’m not really a pessimist – despite people who think I always think of the worst case scenario.  As much as I try to be jaded and cynical I fail, as a friend pointed out to me over drinks. So, label me a realist.  And that means that sometimes you’re not a happy-go-lucky person.  It means that when the circumstances suck, you acknowledge that they do, and you feel crappy about them.

I personally don’t think there’s a problem with that.  Yes dwelling is not good, or exaggerating things, or spiraling down into depression.   But I see nothing wrong with being sad, or angry, or frustrated over a certain set of circumstances.  Every feeling has a certain benefit to it.

To put it another way:

You’re standing and you suddenly look up to see a piano falling down on you.  The pessimist despairs and sees no way out, and is crushed.  The optimist thinks she’ll be okay, or that it will miss her, and is crushed.  The realist sees it, feels the danger and fear, and moves out of the way.  Then, if you’re me, goes and finds out who the hell threw a piano!?

Ice Planet Hoth, Currently My Residence

Toronto is currently engulfed in it’s third *third!* polar vortex!  What’s up with that?  I mean as much as I love Star Wars, and pretended to be Luke’s other sister all through my childhood, that does not mean I want to live on the ice planet Hoth.  For one, there’s a serious drought of cute clothing options.  Two, the only way to stay warm is to crawl inside a Wampa.  And three, the Empire eventually will invade.   Can please move on to the much nicer moon of Endor, with the Ewoks, those guys know how to throw a party.

Love What’s Here, and Anticipate What’s To Come

As you can see Winter is still fully entrenched here.  But I’m not minding it so much.  Why you ask?  * I know, you’re just dying to ask*  It’s because I’m busy with shoots, scripts, and scene work.  This feeds my soul.  Working scenes and playing characters completely feeds this girl and nothing, not even the threat of another winter storm can deter me.  I feel excited for more and more scripts coming my way and getting my butt into some workshops and classes in the coming months.  It’s that excitement that comes from the anticipation of what’s just around the corner.  But it’s accompanied by the joy at what’s here and now in the present.  And that’s about three scripts at once!

So tell me, what feeds your soul?  And are you feeling this sort of vibrant anticipation of Spring?  Tell me I’m not alone here.

Confession time, as I think you’re due.  I don’t usually talk about my health and such on the site. But I’ve been fighting an infection via antibiotics for a couple weeks, and last week I was hit really hard with something.  My fever and reactions were so bad, Andrew was told by the doctor that if it gets even a wee bit worse to race me to emergency or call an ambulance.  Luckily, things turned that evening and since then it’s been a slow and steady climb towards health.  Not 100% there yet, but enough that I managed a little run last night.

This is not to get any pity, just a truth moment as to why I’ve been absent on the site.  It’s not that I don’t care, it’s just that my outfit changes have involved changing from sweat soaked pajamas to fresh pajamas.  So I’ve also had nothing to post.

Lastly, being perfectly honest, this outfit is from just before I was hit hard for my week long stay in bed.   Hope you guys have a great Monday!

A Toddler’s View of Exercise

When I don’t have time or when I want a bit of a change from the regular, I throw on Shaun T’s Insanity or Asylum, or when in a time crunch the T25, and work out.  I do it on my computer when my girl is up and around.  Most of the time she joins in with me for a good chunk of it, and then sits in the room drawing.

Two days ago, I turned on Insanity and asked her, “You gonna come exercise with Mama?”
She replied with a very concerned look and, “No, ’cause it too hard, and it make me tired.”

She summed up exactly why a lot of people don’t exercise.
But within five minutes she was jumping and lunging away with me.  Her favorite are squats.

We all know we live in a consumer society.  When we need something we go to the shop.  So while out doing the groceries, Baby Girl turned to me and asked, “Mama, where you go buy me?”

I answered, “To the best store ever.”

I patted myself on the back for that quick thinking.

No Sugar For You

Chasing a toddler around the house to get cuddles is one of my favorite activities.  It’s a little bit of joy to get the kisses and hugs, and it’s a little bit of vengence too.

See, they make you do things you’re not keen on all the time, and bugging them back a little to get something you want is a tiny little parental rebellion.

I was engaging in this activity, while saying, “Give me some sugar!”

Suddenly, she stopped dead in her tracks, turned to me.  Gave me a death stare and a super cute toddler furrowed brow, “No!  No sugar for you Mama!”

I tried to looked appropriately put in my place.  Managed to hold it until she turned her back, at which point I giggled silently to myself at being reprimanded by a three year old.

Why You Eat Your Children

After bath time, I’m trying to get pajamas onto a little girl who’s more interested in talking and wriggling.

Suddenly, she runs over to the pregnancy photo hanging in the room.

“That my Daddy.  That Drake. That my mommy. That me in Mommy’s belly.”

And without out missing a beat she tilts her head towards me, “Mama, why you eat me?”

I had no answer.
