Denial Was A Nice Place To Live

Well,  there you have it.  Snow has come.  We had a big snowfall.  You know what that means?  No more denial for me.  I can no longer deny that the cold temperatures are here to stay, try as I might.

For a while there, I could ignore the frozen fingers as they worked the tripod and buttons, but once you’re getting snowed on and the scenery is pure white, well, there’s only so far delusions can take you, am I right?

Or maybe I’m not trying hard enough.

The geeky kung fu girl inside of me got loads and loads of giggles this day.  Why?  Because I coordinated my outfit to be the fighting style,  tiger-crane.  I wanted to wear my tiger shirt, and then I was thinking of layers to add on top, and when I remembered my fun crane embroidered sweater I was like yeah, Bruce Lee would love this!  ‘Cause in my head he really cares about what I wear.

So yeah, I had a great time with the little inside joke between me and Bruce Lee.

Change My Mind

“I change my mind.”  That’s the new phrase around the house.  My girl learned that and now she’s using it everywhere.

She wants Dora instead of Blue’s Clues because, “I thought about it.  I change my mind.”

She picked her two Halloween candy treats, then came back to pick a different one because, “I thought about it. I change my mind.”

She wants oatmeal instead of eggs because, “I thought about it. I change my mind.”

She wants the blue pants instead of pink because, “I thought about it. I change my mind.”

“I thought about it. I change my mind” this.
“I thought about it. I change my mind” that.

It’s frankly really hilarious and I have trouble not giggling every time she says it.  She knows what she wants, and she makes it known. Pretty sure I know where she gets that from, huh?

Okay, okay, I’ll admit it, Fall is pretty.  The colors and the textures are wonderful.  But you’re still not gonna get me to like it.  I don’t like the dropping temperatures, or the fact that I know Winter is a blink away.

You can tie me down, and force feed me all the pumpkin chai teas, pumpkin pies, muffins, and ciders you can manage *and seriously I encourage you to do so* but that’s still not gonna change my mind.  I’m a summer girl.  Give me hot winds, blazing suns, and fluttering kimonos any time.

But I’m trying to find the positive in things these days, so….hand over that pumpkin chai already.

Yes, That’s Right!

I’m back!  Thanks for all your words, tweets, email, and facebook messages of support.  It meant the world that you hung in there with me and were so encouraging.

I’m happy to say that I’m back.  I’m feeling better, and I’m healing.  It was not a fun time.  Without going into too much detail, because I don’t want to,  I spent a lot of time shuffling between doctors, and specialists, and no one could figure out why I was having the debilitating symptoms I was having.  Everything showed up normal, and functioning.

Drugs to help allieviate my symptoms just gave me side effects without actually getting rid of symptoms. It wasn’t until I went back to what has worked for me in the past with any ailments I’ve had – naturopathy –  that I started feeling better.  My naturopathic doctor was the only one who had a very grounded and common sense theory as to what was happening and why my natural treatment was helping.  So we boosted the natural treatment I was already doing with herbs and supplements.

Now, I’m feeling much better.  I’m working on supporting my immune system to help my body heal.

And I’m looking forward to getting back to the life I put on the back burner for a month.  Speaking of, I’ll have some thoughts on that tomorrow.

Yay!

…put on a dress, a chunky cardigan, boots, scarf, and hat.  Done.  It’s really as simple as that.  And mix and match as necessary to create ‘new’ outfits.

For the winter, add tights, and maybe another top layer somewhere in there.

Thigh high socks are so cute.  I love layering them on bare legs and over tights.  But it seems that every time I do there’s this tightness and almost a muffin top roll thing that my legs do.  I never see that on any of the pictures on the internet. *I know they’re all photoshopped so that might be edited away too*  It’s one of those little pet peeves.  Like, I know my legs aren’t shaped weird so how come I get this roll?  And what is their secret?

You know, ’cause it’s like high school.  Everyone else is in on the secret except me.  Spill people.  Spill.  Whats the secret to non-muffin top thigh high socks?  What am I missing here?

Neutrality

Generally I’m against it.  I’m against is sartorially, and in a more broad metaphorical way too.  It’s non-committal, wishy-washy, and easy.

To dress neutral is a cop out because you know it’s going to look good, you don’t have to think about anything.  And by not thinking about things, you never really consider where you stand.  You never have to say that you’re this or that – boho, vintage, a pink lover, a hater of florals.  You never have to actually risk anything.

I’m always skeptical of and suspicious of people who only wear neutrals – because if you can’t commit and take a stand sartorially *where it’s arguably the easiest since there’s nothing on the line* then where else are you copping out?  Politically?  Socially?  Emotionally?

I know, you didn’t expect that today did you?

*This post has been brought to you by a woman who rarely cops out sartorially, politically, socially, or emotionally….except when she hasn’t slept for six nights and her brain has temporarily turned to mush*

Early morning rushes.  That’s my new reality.  Since my girl has started school the morning rush to get lunch ready, get breakfast ready, get her ready, get myself ‘ready’, and get out the door has created a new sort of wave to the day.

There’s this big push int he morning, and then the slow meander back home.  This morning for instance I just needed to get out my PJs and so I grabbed the things that were out and threw them on.  It was the stuff that I had just nabbed from a clothing swap I hosted.  And I’m pleased to say that thinking creatively about fashion has made it so that I don’t look like a total mess when I have three minutes to get dressed.

Hope in Exhaustion: A Sartorial Discussion

It seems these pants are being worn with white tops and buns.  But I swear it’s accidental.  What they are really worn with is exhaustion.  Exhaustion is the motivator, and it just so happens that exhaustion goes with white tops – less to think about – and buns – less to do.

Plus a warm sweater, ’cause it’s chilly.  Really exhaustion.  But this goes to show * I hope* that being an exhausted mother, with a husband away on a business trip so no help, doesn’t mean you can’t have some modicum of style.

*Again… I hope*
