CoffeeTalk Vlog: Vegan…Sort Of

Storm

These were taken literally right before we got hit by a huge storm.  In fact, you can see that the wind is already going crazy.  We got a fresh load of snow mixed with rain, which meant that I was shoveling heavy, water logged snow.  Not my idea of fun, but at least a good upper body workout.  
Spring?  Where are you Spring?

Bus Stops Are The Best Aparrently

It seems to be a thing right now, me taking photos while waiting at the bus stop.  These were quickly snapped when I missed my connection and ducked into the side of a building to grab some pics.  I can not get enough of loose lace tops lately.  There’s something so relaxed and dreamy about them, but also really cool.  Something feminine and sexy without being childish.

In case you were wondering *which I know you probably weren’t, I’m not that narcissistic*  I was on my way to do this:

Swirling

 Today is one of those days where there are so many thoughts swirling about my head that I can’t seem to pick out one in order to focus on it.  I wish I could pluck one out and share it with you.  Instead, all I have for you are these pictures.
p.s.  A couple of you have asked about how to get this hair.  Well, it’s really the result of wearing this Easy Headband Updo in for a whole day.
True Story:  
Baby Girl has decided to help me with my boots the way I help her, by holding them out for me to put my foot into.  
She insists on it and won’t let me do it myself.  
But because she’s two what that really means is I spend 10 minutes hopping around on one leg trying to catch the ever moving boot opening. 

Projected Self Image

If you passed me on the street right now, what you’d see is that bundled up lady in the second picture pushing a covered up grumpy baby, but of course those of you on the web usually only see the first picture there.  It’s clearly a projected self image that, while true, is not representative of the whole picture. *pardon the pun*  It’s like FB or twitter.  The rates of depression have soared because of social media where everyone presents their best selves, the image of the selves they would like to be project to the world, and that makes us all compare ourselves to these false representations of people.  No one can live up to that. 
You never see that the woman jet setting around the globe cries herself to sleep at night.  Or that the man with the perfect family is swimming in debt. Or that our favorite blogger who looks so cute or does so many crafts is in pain all the time.   Nor should you really since social media is public and we don’t air our dirty laundry in public or on the street.  But my point is that as hard as it is we should never compare ourselves to people on FB, twitter, or blogs, because we don’t see the truth behind the pictures.  
Your life is good, warts and all.

Fringe in February

So two things have happened.  One, I’ve gotten tired of February keeping me in pants with long johns or tights underneath.  And two, I finally got up the nerve to wear my ModCloth stylish surprise dress and in the middle of a frostbiting blustery day.  And I nearly froze my fingers off again taking these pictures.  So I guess that’s three things.

Pardon the wrinkled nature of the dress.  I did have it on all day with the babe, through the ordeal of forgetting items and running back to the house then back to the bus, and a test shoot with a very lovely lady.  While we’re on the subject of the dress, I love it.  It’s one of those pieces I never would’ve chosen myself but now it seems to fit seamlessly into the shifting aesthetic of my style. 

If you haven’t noticed ModaMama is moving ever so subtly away from sweet dressing and more into a boho style lately.  Maybe I shouldn’t say it outright, maybe that’s some bloggers faux pas, but I find myself drawing away from certain sweet items like Peter Pan collars in favor of fringe and loose fitting soft materials.  Who knows.  One thing I love about fashion is it’s ever evolving reflection of the changing nature of our selves.

This apparently.  Yup, this – sans the jacket – was the outfit in which I prepared zucchini with bacon and a greens rice bowl.  Yup, the cooking continues and I think if I have to do it, at least I’ll look good.  Maybe I’ll even distract you from the food by my cute outfit?

Boycotting February

Freezing cold.  I think I’ve decided that I hate February.  Even with Valentine’s Day and copious amounts of chocolate, I think I could do without the entire month.  It’s cold. And everyone gets all cabin fevery. *yes, that’s a word* 
On days like this I don’t even dare to step outside to take out the recycling.  It can sit there until it walks out on it’s own, or Andrew takes it out, whichever comes first.  
Time for tea.  Stay warm everyone.

Random Sundays: Deep Freeze

It’s freezing here.  I mean -21 degrees freezing.  It’s so cold that my little snow angel is out for a total of 10 minutes before she’s crying to come back in. 

She’s braver than me.  I didn’t even step out to get her back in the house.
What?!  She’s got two feet, she can use ’em.

Really Just A Wimp

Yeah I know.  Bad blogger lady.  But it’s so cold I’m loath to take any pictures.  I’m still getting dressed it’s just that when my body is covered in goosebumps head to toe I’m really finding it hard to get any motivation to take me coat off for pictures.  Which is really to say that I’m too much of a wimp to take pictures in this weather.  C’est la vie.  Spring is just around the corner n’est pas?
