My Little Girl’s Fashion Sense

Having a little girl is seriously fantastic.  She plays video games with Dad like a pro – except for when her gaming is reduced to one hand ’cause she’s sucking her thumb – and she has such a silly sense of humor.

I’m personally very excited to see her tastes and style developing.  There are weeks when all she wants to do is wear dresses, then there are purple days, and pink days, and blue days, and days where she looks through her drawer for a specific shirt. It’s really interesting to watch this person decide how to dress everyday.  Then there are the days she doesn’t care of course.

On those days I get to have a little fun.  That’s when I pull out that shirt or dress I wanted to see her in.  You see I usually prefer to go with her tastes and give her that freedom.  But on these days I get to make the call.

So when this shirt from Melijoe arrives, it’s going to be pulled out on my day.  Though to be fair, with it’s bright colors and vibrant patterns, I have a feeling she’ll want to wear it as soon as it arrives.  I’m starting to get to know her tastes, and Desigual is right up her alley.

Desigual is a Spanish brand I discovered many moons ago when travelling through Europe, and it’s a touch hard to find in Canada.  It’s easier to find their women’s line, but their children’s line is such a challenge to track down.  I was really excited to see that Melijoe carries it, but to be fair they have a lot of really great brands in their online shop, so it’s not much of a surprise.  Their online shop is filled with tons of cute pieces for children and teenagers. I could go crazy there.

I have a feeling she’s just going to run off with the shirt when it arrives.
I just hope she gives me time to wash it first before she skips off to school in it.

Overall – Spell Designs via Turquoise Lane  //  Tank & Bralette – F21  //  Boots – DIYed by me  //  Bag – Target  //  Necklace – Monserat De Lucca via Beau and Bauble in Toronto

It’s the last of the Miami outfits today.  Then we’re back to Toronto, and the chillier weather.

These walls were so stunning, and every new one gave me a new idea for a shoot.  Basically, I could’ve shot in the area for a whole year with each new wall giving me new inspiration for a new story to tell.

How do photographers ever walk away from here?

Momentous Day

Today is a momentous day here on the site.  For years, I haven’t shown my girl’s face, but today that’s changing.  Andrew and I have thought about it, and we’ve both decided that we’ve loosened our grips on that.

She’s older, and we’ve gotten a bit more relaxed about it.  I also thought about the wonderful people who’ve been reading this site for years, and wanted to show you the beauty that has been the center of all those crazy Mama stories and moments.

So here she is.  In all her smarty-pants glory.

Tank – Love Nail Tree  //  Skirt – Arnhem  //  Necklace & Hat – F21  // Sunnies – Lace Affair  //  Sandals – FreePeople

Walking around Espanola Way and the rest of South Beach in my graphic tank from Love Nail Tree was somewhat satisfying to me.  This particular one is about the perversion, and decline, of the Amderican Dream; so, I found it humorous to be a Canadian walking around with this on.

But of course, no one noticed, they were too bust looking at the fabulous skirt from Arnhem.  Loved thie fabulous way it just swished with me.

Miami: Wynwood Walls

An area of town just west of Midtown Miami, the Wynwood Walls area is an odd place. It’s very industrial, littered with wholesale clothing factories, run down residential homes, upscale furniture boutiques, and houses a little oasis of a cafe called Panther Coffee.

But amid all this the buildings themselves create a stunning living art gallery.  Every wall is a canvas, every door houses potential, and nothing is off limit.

It’s a beautiful place to wander about.

Kimono/Cardigan – Arnhem  //  Queen top – F21  //  Shorts – Spell Designs  //  Boots – DIYed myself  //  Necklace – Vanessa Mooney via ThreadSence

The Miami outfit posts are coming in now.  Monday’s walk through Coconut Grove and along the waterfront was glorious. And I couldn’t resist changing into shorts at the first opportunity.  These Spell shorts are fabulous. I sized up in them just a touch because I wanted the extra length in the bum. As in, I wanted my bum fully covered when I was walking.

This Arnhem maxi cardigan was definitely perfect in the day to protect from the sun, and in the evening to protect from the cooler breeze. Plus, it stole the show everywhere I went.  People were constantly remarking on it.

I wore this while travelling from Toronto with Jeans.  It provided enough warmth in the snowy weather, and then with a quick switch out to the shorts was perfect in the higher temperatures of Miami.  When I’m travelling like this I like to think about what will easily work with both climates so that you’re comfortable and not freezing or boiling on one end.

Side note: it also makes the perfect thing to wear when your breezing through the hotel on the way to the pool and back.

Miami: Espanola Way and Beach

Wandering through Espanola Way and Lincoln Road, we could only resist the pull of the beach for so long. Of course, that’s where we headed and I went straight into the waves. The water was deliciously warm.
What I loved was the woman who started feeding the seagulls and became completely surrounded by them as a result.

Miami Photos: Coconut Grove area

This was the view from the hotel room I was lucky enough to stay in the last few days.  It was a business trip that was heaven sent, as the location was sunny Miami and the work to play ratio was delightful.

The first stop after settling in was Coconut Grove.  We wandered around the shops and down Coco Walk.

The Art Deco architecture mixed with the Spanish influence was to die for, and I certainly was more than tempted to just unpack for good.

Wandering around the area and finally making the trek home via the waterfront, and lovely residential areas was perfect.  The sun and the heat were glorious.  Such a blissful moment, where I could feel my body relax from months of shivering.

This was by far the coolest house on the walk home.

And this photo sums up the feelings of the entire day for me.

Outfit photos from Miami go live starting Monday.

Staying Chic in the Winter with Maxi Skirts and Dresses

Skirt & Cardigan – Ruche  //  Top – UO  //  Belt – I forget  //  Boots – ThreadSence  //  Bag – thrifted  //  Metallic tattoo – eBay

Sometimes I think I’m completely crazy.  On this day, on one of the coldest Februarys on record, I took off all my layers and posed for the camera to grab outfit shots.  Yup, completely certifiable.

But seriously, maxi skirts and dresses are a great way to stay chic during the colder months because they look great but also allow for leggings and thigh high wool socks underneath….which you can bet that I had on!  It’s all about the layers and layers I tell ya.

What’s awesome is that right now, I’m in Miami.  Enjoying the much warmer temps.  See you in a few days and expect some much warmer and funner pictures.  Ones where I’m not wondernig if I’ve gotten frostbite on my clavicle.

merci
xoxo
