In the middle of industrial north Etobicoke sits a stunning Hindu temple that looks like a taste of the Taj Mahal here in modern Toronto.
It opened in 2007, and is currently being cleaned and restored. It is comprised of 24,000 pieces of Turkish white limestone, Carrar marble, and Indian pink sandstone sculpted by craftsmen over 18 months. The building was made with no steel, mortar, or a single nail.
It’s impressive, and volunteers give guided tours to visitors, but please research ahead as there are rules in terms of photos, shoes, and the separation of men and women during some of the daily rituals.
