What Rules?! : Mixed Metals

Sweater – Cotton Candy   // Skirt – Uncle Phuncle c/o Emerging Thoughts  //  Coat – UO  //  Tights – Hansel From Basel  //  Boots – Feet First  //  Leaf Necklace – I forget  //  Pearl necklace – Ruche  //  Purple Chain – bought in Spain  //  Right Hand Bracelet – F21  // Left Hand Bracelet – made by me

The link up was a bit of a failure.  I think that means you guys just want some inspiration.  Which is totally cool with me!  So I’m going to continue breaking fashion rules, and if you’d like to join me leave your link in the comments and I’ll be sure to check them out.  ‘Cause I love seeing what you do too.

Next week I’m breaking a rule from the 50’s that said you should never wear high heels with cropped pants.  Apparently the connotation was that you were more than a bit promiscuous.  So I’m breakin’ that rule next week before it gets too cold to do so.

Yup, That’s What I’m Gonna Do

Jacket & Top – Le Chateau  //  Pants – Gap  // Boots – Call It Spring  //  Necklace & Hat – Threadsence //  Scarf – street stand  //  Sunnies – F21
Wear hats and sunnies in the Autumn.  Clearly I’m so sun phobic that given the chance to wear a wide brim felt fedora I’m going to take it.  This was the morning we headed over to the grandparents before I headed out to the last day on set this month for the feature film, Synchronicity.    Knowing I was going to be on set outside for a lot of the day played into the sun-phobic outfit.
And of course the second I started taking pictures, baby girl had to get in there to join me for them.  The best part was that she started posing for them.  Copying the moves she’s seen me make, and telling me how to stand.

Cover Your Butt..Or How To Wear Leggings

Jacket -Le Chateau  //  Top – Vero Moda  //  Hat – Aldo  //  Sunnies – F21  //  Leggings  – H&M  //  Boots – Call It Spring

It seems that women *the teens and early twenties variety especially* seem to forget that leggings are not pants.  They are leggings.  A hybrid between tights and pants.  Therefore you should always remember one thing:  cover your ass!  Ladies, regardless of how nice or well scuplted you deem your derriere, please cover it when wearing leggings.

Too many a time have I walked behind a young woman on the metro and seen the exact shade and shape of her underwear through the bum she presented to me underneath her leggings.  It’s not a view I particularly enjoy with my morning coffee.  I don’t want to see it, and while there are some who do, please for the sake of the rest of us keep it off the public metro and streets by just doing me one little favor:  cover your butt.

Night Shoot with Leopard

Jacket – Le Chateau  //  Top – Mink Pink  //  Tank – Gap  //  Necklace – I forget.  //  Pants – Lululemon  //  Boots – Call It Spring.

A friend of mine asked about this top when I wore it.  I told her that I’d worn it several times but each time forgot to take pictures.  So when I headed out for the evening I tried to play around with a bit of a night shoot.  But wouldn’t you know it I forgot to change the batteries on my external flash.  So it was a bit of a scramble to try to find some practical light to use.

But hey, I was determined to finally get this top on the site.  And finally I managed it….sorta.

Hope you’re all having a great time today.  I’m on set all this week for Synchronicity, so check me out on Instagram for some BTS shots.

This is How We Roll…or How A Toddler Saved Her Dad

Pants –  L’Atiste via Threadsence //  Jacket & Sunnies – F21  //  Shirt – Gap  //  Shoes – Aldo  //  Necklace – c/o Atterley Road
Andrew made a mess of the counter and walked away.  I walked up to said counter, looked at it, and turned to him, “Really?  Is this how we roll in this house?”  From the peanut gallery on the couch came a little girl voice, “No Mama!  I show ya.”
She got on the floor on her back and proceeded to barrel roll down the length of the kitchen saying, “Look!  This is how you roll Mama.  See?”
I looked at Andrew and said, “You realize she just saved your butt, right?”
Side note:  these palazzo pants are so amazing.  I think other than pleather pants, palazzo pants are my other love.

Casual Glam with Pleather Pants

Pants, Clutch & Shoes – H&M //  Top – Zara  //  Jacket – F21  //  Bracelet – c/o Atterley Road
Toronto is in the midst of it’s International Film Festival.  That means, screenings and events galore.  My favorite kind of industry or TIFF party is the kind that calls for what I like to call, “casual glam.”  To me that’s when you get dressed up and glamorous up but not in a formal dress kind of way.  I love that I could take out my new pleather pants out for a spin for just such a party.
I think you’ll be seeing pleather pants a lot from me this season.  I love leather and pleather accents and now they’re everywhere!  Used to be that I would find that single gem semi-annually that had pleather accents.  Id’ snap it up in a second.  And now it’s everywhere.  For a pleather hog like me it’s a veritable wonderland!

p.s.  I tried to do Jon at Evoke Salon proud by recreating the soft waves look he gave me after my recent haircut.  Passable, but there’s no substitute for the pro!

Rod Stewart’s Lovechild

Jacket – Threadsence   //   Shirt – hand me down  //   Jeans – AE  // Boots – DIYed by me  //  Sunnies & Necklace – F21

I found this Rod Stewart shirt in the donate bag at my mom’s house.  I think it was my sisters.  Anyway, I cut and altered it to fit me, and now I think it’s the best ironic t-shirt ever.  You see, though I’m not a fan of Rod Stewart, my mom is.  So much so, that if they had ever met in the 80’s I’m pretty sure I would’ve been their illegitimate love child.

So really, this post should go out to my Dad in another life.  Love you man.

Everyone Needs A Doctor Who Tardis Dress

Dress – Geekyu //  Jacket – Zara  //  Boots – Feet First  //  Necklace – Threadsence
When I saw this Doctor Who Tardis dress it was love at first sight.  A cute, comfy Tardis dress is pretty much a must have for this nerdy girl.  Thank you GeekyU!  They have some pretty cool things.  Honestly, I want one of their Zelda hoodies for Fall.  It’s on my dream wishlist.
In the meantime, this was the perfect dress to wear while promoting my feature film Synchronicity.  The soft scif-fi about time travel is a natural jumping off point to someone commenting about my Tardis dress.  So yes, sometimes my clothing is very strategic.  It also helps that a Tardis dress is just plain awesome!

p.s.  I thought I’d show you one of the pictures that doesn’t usually make it into an outfit post.  But this one had me laughing so hard at myself I just had to share.   I have no idea what I was doing.

Lack of Concern For Execution

Dress -Sweet Rain  //  Sandals & Jacket – F21  //  Sunnies – Lace Affair
A casual day spent at my mom’s house means that my uniform is a dress and easy denim jacket.  It also means that my humid wracked hair is up and away from my face without concern for the style or beauty of it’s execution.  Which would be fine, were I not a person to chronicle everything I wear.
There you have it folks. Some days were you to stop by my house you would find my hair a veritable braided rats nest.  C’est la vie.
p.s. Make sure you guys check out my Gracie B giveaway.  It’s pretty kick ass.

Wild Ferret

Top – some random site  //   Jacket – Ark&Co.  //  Jeans – Gap  //  Necklace – Threadsence  //  Shoes – Payless  //  Sunnies – F21
You all know I love a good paradox or contradiction in terms.  Well, pairing a feminine, sequined jacket with an Aliens inspired tee is pretty much the perfect combination for me.  It’s like the rock ‘n roll tee and chiffon pairing but for nerds you know?  Here I was on my way to a backyard fencing league some friends of mine started.  My fighting sigil?  Wild Ferret, because at one point someone sparring with me said it was like trying to bottle a wild ferret.  That’s me.  Cute, cuddly, wily and vicious when I need to be.
