I’ve been reading “Gypset Style” by Julie Chaplin. I got it as a gift once, and well, every style blogger I know and every brand I know was singing its praises; so, I figured I should probably read it. And I don’t like it.
It’s quiet here. And not in a good way.
Boots and a dress – other than jeans and a cute top – are a no fail outfit. They go together perfectly. And just like anything else in my life, I don’t like things to be too sweet; so, the sweetness of a cute dress is toughened up a little by boots. Not cute little pumps or sweet Mary Janes. But boots.
Boots that look like they can take you places. That recall cowboy boots, or riding boots. Something that looks like they can take you on a multitude of adventures.
Because I may be wearing a pretty dress, but I can roll in a field, or climb a tree, or get into shenanigans at a moments notice.
Sometimes, rarely, I do enjoy wearing an all black ensemble. But whenever I do monochrome, I love playing with textures upon textures. Sequins, wool, fur, and pleather….did I miss anything?
It’s just interest I guess. I love to see some interest in clothing. When there’s textures, or colors, there’s interest, feeling, and a sense of that individual’s attitude for the eve. I don’t presume to encourage people to judge by the cover, but it’s fun to say something about your state of mind at this particular moment.
Mine was all about the party.
Can we talk about how awesome braids are? They’re really easy, and take little time *this took me 10 minutes* but look like you really put in an effort. Oh, and you can pretend your hair is super clean when really you’re just too darn busy to give it a wash.
Yeah, I can really get behind anything that allows me to save time.
Personally, I think it’s so much fin. It adds texture and interest to an outfit immediately. But to me it always has the danger of getting too glam or dressed up, so the fact that this jacket had a hood made it perfect because the hood brings it back down.
There’s a great level on contradiction in the playful, laid back hood, and the luxe, glam faux fur. And contradictions in clothes, and in people, are what adds such kaleidoscopic beauty to life.
Plus, it’s fuzzy.
This weekend was a roller coaster. Friday night I had the chance to celebrate a great lady’s birthday. Saturday things seemed to go well but my Girl was a bit under the weather. This progressed to a full blown fever that persisted the rest of the weekend. As this is posted this morning, I know she’s not going to school.
Poor girl spent Sunday on the couch drinking tons of water/juice and sleeping on Mama a lot. Let’s see how the Monday goes.
Oh and trust me, this is not how I was dressed on Sunday…but it was how I was dressed on another day.
I know some people rotate their closets for the seasons, but I don’t really do that. Sure I put away any halter tops and bikinis, but otherwise it all stays in there because I just wear it differently. This romper for example, it’s backless and strappy, and made for summer, so in the summer that’s how I wear it. But it’s such a great print and I love the cut that to put it away for half the year seems a shame. Enter layering.
A cami underneath, and a sweater and jacket combo on top and I’m ready to rock it for Fall. Who says you can’t have your closet year round!
Toronto is currently engulfed in it’s third *third!* polar vortex! What’s up with that? I mean as much as I love Star Wars, and pretended to be Luke’s other sister all through my childhood, that does not mean I want to live on the ice planet Hoth. For one, there’s a serious drought of cute clothing options. Two, the only way to stay warm is to crawl inside a Wampa. And three, the Empire eventually will invade. Can please move on to the much nicer moon of Endor, with the Ewoks, those guys know how to throw a party.
These boots? Super clearance. I’m talkin’ the final, final clearance. The sweater? Same thing. Bought it in late spring tucked away in the back of the boutique with the final, final, final markdowns. The Jeans? Ditto. Clearance. Same goes for the necklace. The only thing that wasn’t clearance was the shirt, which was a gift.
I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it time and time again – thank you all for hatin’ on the things I love…..’cause that means I get ’em cheap.
*side note: I had a totally different post lined up, but when I started going through the pictures, I laughed when I saw that everything here was on the final final clearance when I bought it.*
