Funny Face?

Top – Jacob; Sweater & Earrings – F21; Velvet Pants – Le Chateau; Socks – Calvin Klein; Shoes – Payless.

The movie Funny Face has been on my mind, so much so that I felt compelled to echo the spirit of Audrey Hepburn from the beatnik cafe scene.  She’s such an iconic figure in terms of beauty and fashion, but what I always think about is that she broke the mold of the time. She was a former ballerina with a very boyish figure in a time when every woman was aspiring to the curves of Monroe.  Hepburn’s beauty was not in chic, she was elfish and boyish, but her appeal was undeniable.

When I consider things like fashion trends, and standards of beauty I think of her and how her confidence and unique beauty shone through despite the critiques of her contemporaries and she became an icon for generations.  So I always think that though it may not be in ‘chic’, who knows who the next Hepburn will be.

True Story:
Last night I worked a night shift hosting Movieola, so I needed coffee.
I stood in front of the automated espresso machine at work and pushed the ‘on’ button.
It asked me to push another button.  I did.  And another.  And another.
Six buttons later, I’m begging the machine to please stop messing with me and just give me my espresso! It’s so high-maintenance and demanding.
I just want my espresso.
Pretty please?

Inappropriate Things I Say

Top – F21; Dress – Lulus; Ring – Spotted Moth; Tights – Hue; Boots – Locale.

Oh goodness gracious my mouth gets me in trouble!  I’m one of those people who just says things, sometimes without thinking.   I say them because I think they’re funny, or true, or odd.  But sometimes I don’t realize what I’m saying until it’s far too late, and I can’t take it back.  I realize an hour afterwards that what I said could be totally interpreted in another way – a mean way, or inappropriate way.  And that’s not where I’m coming from at all.  I don’t mean anyone ill will, unless you’re that idiot on the crowded bus who’s shouting into his cellphone like the person is two football stadiums away. And even then, I don’t wish him ill will….maybe a hemorrhoid or two. But otherwise, I very much believe in live and let live. I just wish my mouth would get on board.

Really.  Please?  Will you just once, co-operate please?

I say stupid things a lot: wise-cracks, smart ass comments, sarcasms, inappropriate examples, dirty jokes, must I go on? Things that I regret or cringe at when I’m trying to fall asleep, and wish I could take back because they were stupid, dumb, embarrassing, TMI, or really just take your pick.  I wish that I could learn to hold my tongue.  I’ve been on this planet a certain number of years, and I still haven’t gotten the hang of it.

I’m just thankful for the friends I have that have learned to see past this little flaw quirk of mine, and see that I’m fiercely loyal, trustworthy, dependable and well-meaning.  I have and will drop everything if a friend’s in need and be there to support you if you need it.  Just ignore the things I say which might be stupid, dumb, embarrassing, TMI, or really just take your pick.

Scarf – street stand; Jacket – Jacob; Bag – Matt by Matt&Nat; Sweater – F21; Dress – Ruche; Tights – Hue; Shoes – Clarks.

I saw this outfit on The Clothes Horse a while back and knew that since I owned the same dress I just had to recreate that look.  You know what they say about imitation.  But I wasn’t crazy about the color of her sweater for myself; it looked great on her, but I knew that it just wouldn’t feel right on me.  So when I found this poodle sweater on F21, I knew it was the perfect way to recreate that darling outfit.  And well, I had a certificate burning a hole in my pocket, so I made sure to snag it.  What’s funny is that the very day it arrived at my door, I saw Rose a la Mode wearing the exact same sweater.  Great minds, huh?  Anyway, I’ve been saving this outfit for a day when I get to go out for a bit, and I finally got the chance, so here it is!  Yeah poodles!  Yeah horses!  Yeah mixing prints!

This outfit was a hit with both the Moms and the kids that I help teach.  Cross-generational outfit?  yes, please!
