Romper/Jumpsuit – ThreadSence //  Top – Gap  //  Boots – Aldo  //  Scarf – thrifted  //  Necklace – Lustre Boutique

Lately, despite my sheer love for them, I’ve been wearing very few dresses.  The fault I believe lies in the discomfort while I was ill that has carried over subconsciously, and the general Winter malaise that tends to set in this time of year.

Plus, it’s damn cold!  That alone is enough to chase a girl away from tights to the double layers of tights and pants.  Plus, the abundance f cute pants and rompers in my closet doesn’t hurt.

No worries, the dresses will reappear shortly. I promise.

Merci
xoxo

Skull Kimono Cardigan – Fitzroy Boutique  //  Tee – gift from Europe  //  Flared Jeans – Dittos via UO  //  Scarf – SheInside  //  Fedora – ThreadSence  //  Necklace – Monserat de Lucca via Beau and Bauble

…that’s what the t-shirt says. And though as a freelancer there is no such thing as ‘weekend,’ if I were to have a *winter* weekend uniform this would be it: jeans, boots *though you can’t see them*, big cardi/kimono, slouchy top, and scarf.

With fringe.  You just know that something would have to have fringe.
And a fun pattern/graphic – like this tee and sweater.

Okay, so I guess my uniform is pretty specific.

Your Focus This Holiday

As Christmas approaches, I’m still amazed at the amount of green present.  I thought for sure we would have brown foliage, and white snow, but no,  Just damp, cold, still greenish stuff on the ground.  But hey, I’ll take that over negative twenty degrees any day.

This year I’m trying to go as low-key as possible.  I’ve avoided all the possible holiday parties, and am attempting to have the least amount of stress and business.  Sometimes, some years, I’m all about the parties and people and events.  Others, I’m really about the quietest possible of days.  It’s all about balance and figuring out what you need right?

What are you focusing on this year?

There was a snowstorm.
There. Was. A. Snowstorm.
There was a SNOWSTORM.

And it was cold.

I decided not to leave the house.

And tea.  I decided to drink a lot of tea.

Cowboy Boots!

Andrew’s been away on a lot of business trips lately.  But there’s an upside….sometimes he comes home with cowboy boots from Nashville!  I guess that’s allowed.

It was super cold, but I wanted to grab these shots before the light completely disappeared for the day.  I had been inside all day shooting portraits of some fabulous and gorgeous people, and you know me, I’m all about ease and function when in the studio.

SO thankfully, the cowboy boots are totally functional ’cause I wanted to wear them ASAP.

Geeky Kung Fu Girl

The geeky kung fu girl inside of me got loads and loads of giggles this day.  Why?  Because I coordinated my outfit to be the fighting style,  tiger-crane.  I wanted to wear my tiger shirt, and then I was thinking of layers to add on top, and when I remembered my fun crane embroidered sweater I was like yeah, Bruce Lee would love this!  ‘Cause in my head he really cares about what I wear.

So yeah, I had a great time with the little inside joke between me and Bruce Lee.

Evolution of Dusters

Duster – Spell Designs  //  Jumpsuit – ThreadSence //  Tee – UO  //  Bag – Target  //  Booties & Necklaces – I forget *old*

Dusters were originally worn by horse riders as light jackets to, you know it, keep the dust off their clothing.  In the fashion world, they’ve evolved into light kimonos that are usually maxi length.  To me, the wild python print on this one hearkened back those days of cowboys and the wild west.

Being the sci-fi nerd that I am, it also brought to mind Firefly, and made me think this might be a duster that someone living in that verse might wear.  I guess it’s the dreamer in me that is drawn to the free and untamed feeling that this duster evokes.

Now all I need is a tall ship and a star to steer her by.

Speaking of Animals and Maxis…

Leopard Maxi Skirt – Mink Pink  //  Sweater – Guess  //  Jacket – Le Chateau  //  Boots – Aldo  //  Leaf Necklace – F21  //  Eagle Necklace & Rings – I forget *old*

….how about bringing it all together?   The previous post was about maxis, and the one before that was about faux fur, somehow it feels like the perfect third part to bring maxis and faux animal into one outfit and one post, with this maxi leopard print skirt.

You would think genius like this is pre-planned, but you’d be wrong.  Yup, this three parter is brought to you entirely by happenstance and the weird, idiosyncratic workings of my mind.  I mean, er, yeah I totally planned this.

Aaaaaand, that’s the end of the genius.
It was very short lived.
Also, debatable if it was actually genius, but we’ll just give me that one, shall we?

Kimono – Spell and the Gypsy Collective  //  Top & Jeans – UO  //  Boots & Leaf Necklace – I forget  //  Short Necklace – Vanessa Mooney  //  Leather Bracelet & Sunnies – F21

There’s this shop I love, Spell and the Gypsy Collective based out of Australia, and as a newsletter subscriber I get all the updated info.  Usually their clothes are way out of reach for this artist Mama, but I marked my calendar when news came out of their big huge warehouse sale.

The thing was I was booked for a big photography gig out of town that same day.  The gig finished a half hour into the sale.  On the day, I drove to my gig and had a blast doing it.  The event started winding down early and after a discussion with my lovely client, we agreed that I should leave a touch early as things were clearly over *I had arrived early and started early so I felt that was fine to leave – normally I would’ve insisted on staying*

So I got in my car and started the long drive back home.  Soon though I remembered the sale and noticed that it had just started.  So what did I do?  I pulled over.

There I was: on the side of the highway, in an empty parking lot of a model home development/sales centre, in the middle of nowhere Ontario, on my phone shopping the warehouse sale.  If the police had been there and taken interest it would’ve been one heck of an explanation. But I grabbed some amazing pieces at incredibly low prices, so in my book it’s a win!

*this post will also answer the question that a lot of people have about me, both online and in real life: how do I have so much variety and great quality in my wardrobe? Side of the highway, empty parking lot, in the middle of nowhere on a phone people, that’s how*

Romper – ThreadSence  //  Jacket – I forget, it’s old  //  Sweater – Guess  //  Hat & Boots – Aldo  //  Necklace Monserat de Lucca  //  Bag – Target

I know some people rotate their closets for the seasons, but I don’t really do that.  Sure I put away any halter tops and bikinis, but otherwise it all stays in there because I just wear it differently.  This romper for example, it’s backless and strappy, and made for summer, so in the summer that’s how I wear it.  But it’s such a great print and I love the cut that to put it away for half the year seems a shame.  Enter layering.

A cami underneath, and a sweater and jacket combo on top and I’m ready to rock it for Fall.  Who says you can’t have your closet year round!
