Guns, Games, Guys, And Gals

Monday night I met up with some friends and we pointed guns at each other.  You know, what everyone does on a Monday.  Actually, they were foam guns that are part of a robber heist game, the first of many games played that night.  Snakes & Lattes is awesome!  I get to hang out with friends, play awesome games and drink an almond milk latte!  Perfect night! What’s even better?  I won one of the games!  Boo-yah! *yes, I said it*

You know that web series I’m doing, Posthuman?  Well, we shot another episode recently.  I wasn’t in this one *you’re disappointed, I know* but I did show up on set to see what went down and grab a few behind the scenes videos and pics.  For more pictures – check out my acting site.

Tuesday In Review: Balea Facial Cleansing Cloths

I recently bought this little package at the drugstore.  Why did I get these you might ask since I have facial cleanser at home?  Well really convenience was the main motivation.  Sometimes when I get home late at night from hosting the show I’m so tired that I really don’t want to wash my face.  But I have to.  I wear a lot of make-up for tv and if I don’t wash it off and sleep on it that’s just plain gross.  Having these nearby is great.  More than that, I also wanted to have them for when I’m on set for films and such.  I often don’t stop and take off my make-up when I’m leaving a set, but once I’m gone I realize that I have all this stuff on my face and I just want to get rid of it.  So that’s where these lovely things come in:  when I need to clean my face but either can’t, or don’t want, to go wash it all off.

Now, I haven’t tried a lot of these facial cleansing cloths, so I really have no point of reference, but I’ve found this one to be pretty good with a bit of a give and take in terms of what you get.  I really appreciate how gentle it is and how it doesn’t aggravate my skin.  I don’t, however, find it to be thoroughly and deeply cleaning, but it does leave my skin soft and not irritated.  So I guess it might be a bit of a trade off in that respect.  It’s not super deep cleaning, but it also leaves my skin such that I don’t need to apply moisturizer right away.

Sun Flare Lenses Over My Eyes

Shirt – F21; Vest – AE; Dress – Ruche; Belt – came with another dress; Tights – Hue; Boots – Feet First.

The days are growing shorter and shorter and the world seems a little surreal to me, like I’m spending my days in a sun flare haze meandering through the hours until….until what?  That’s the question.  It feels like I’m waiting, but I don’t know what I’m waiting for.  Maybe I’m waiting for the snow to come so it actually feels like winter and the freezing temperatures are justified their existence.  Maybe I’m waiting for December 21st so that the days can start getting longer once more. Maybe I’m just waiting for the holidays to be over and all that stress and activity to subside.  Maybe I’m just, “Waiting for Godot.”

Who knows.

For now I’ll have a cup of tea and read.

What are you waiting for?

Clothes, Friends, And Food

On me: Top – thrifted; Dress – Ruche; Tights – Hue; Boots – Feet First. On Reggy:  no idea but she looks so cute!

I went to a fun clothing swap today, hosted by none other than the fabulous, Miss Reggy!  She had some lovely treats to eat and in between snacking and chatting we got to try on some fun clothes.  I brought three garbage bags worth of clothes and I’m happy to say that many items found themselves a lovely new home! Myself, I walked away with three pieces: a sweater, a vest, and a top.  Stay tuned for outfit posts featuring those items!

p.s. why is it that I’m always giggling in my pics?  I’m that person in the group shot that’s laughing while everyone else is looking all cool and glamorous *le sigh*

I Hate Christmas Shopping

Dress – boutique in Brugges; Tights – Hue; Boots – Feet First.

I forgot to do my hair for these pics.  I’m so sorry!  I was working off about four hours sleep and totally forgot that I left my hair in a pony.  But you guys understand, right? *please say you understand, please say you understand, please say you understand*

I used to despise Christmas.  Why?  Because I hate Christmas shopping.  I love giving gifts and I love spending time with family, but I refuse to go to the mall on a Friday or anytime during the weekend because I can’t stand crowds.  So going Christmas shopping every year was a stressful and unpleasant ordeal.  I always made sure that my shopping was done by December first so as to avoid the holiday crowds.  But now all that has changed.

I love Christmas shopping.  Why?  Because I can do it all online!  I bought my Mom’s gift on ebay, my sister’s gifts on F21, my nephews and Baby on Toys’rus, and Husband’s on a website subscription service.  Love it!  Husband also took care of almost all his shopping online too!  This is my kind of gift giving.  I can do it at home, peacefully, with a cup of tea and I don’t have to face crowded shopping malls or hectic lines.

This has made my holiday season.

p.s. check out some of my favorites pics from my recent promo shoot.  I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Reverse Raindance

Sweater – F21; Dress – Ruche; Tights – Hue; Boots – Petite Pieds.

These rain boots are magic.  Honestly!  Every time I wear them it instantly stops raining.  They’re like raindance shoes, but in reverse in that they stop the rain.  Then, when I came inside for the day and put these boots away, it started raining again. You think I’m joking, but the last seven times I’ve worn them in the rain, it stopped raining within 10 minutes.  Honestly!

Oh, and I absolutely adore this dress!  It’s so perfect and magical and I love the simple horse print on it.  The material  is a soft silky type that feels just so decadent and indulgent.  And the subtle sweetheart neckline with a cross-over back is flattering on everyone! *when it’s warm enough outside to wear it without layering of course, like here*  I originally got it from Ruche here, but they only have a couple left, so you can get it here, from Modcloth, too *especially if you’re looking for a medium*, and if you like the idea of black and pink, get the dress in this color from ShopSosie instead!

p.s. no I didn’t wear the same tights two days in a row.  I’m just a little behind and disjointed on outfit shots.  I wore them two days apart.

p.p.s.  Check out some behind the scenes shots that the fabulous make-up artist took at my latest shoot!

Opening A Can Of Worms

Cardi – Smart Set; Blouse – F21; Skirts – Jacob; Tights – Hue; Shoes – Town Shoes.

A person recently tweeted *and I’m paraphrasing* “To those who think gay marriage ruins the institution of marriage, I have two words: Kim Kardashian.”  That got me thinking, not about gay marriage – because I’m not going to touch that debate with a ten foot pole – but about marriage and what is meant when we, as a society, talk about protecting it.

Marriage throughout history was used as the official stamp on things: alliances, deals, contracts, peace agreements, etc. They were all sealed with a marriage between the two parties.  Even those not in the well-to-do ranks or aristocracy *this goes beyond Europe, and I use aristocracy to mean the upper castes of society* used marriage to seal deals – whether that was to secure two farms to each other, secure care for a daughter, or just to get rid of a mouth to feed. *’cause that’s what an extra daughter was thought as being*  Our modern idea of marriage has been present throughout history as well – I think love has always been –  but it was either an accident, luxury, or done out of wedlock.  Poorer people often had what we consider ‘marriage’ but they had it outside wedlock and without the sanction of the church, or ruling authority, because it was common that people couldn’t pay for a ceremony or pay taxes/fees to their lord to be allowed to marry.

My question is this, what exactly are we talking about protecting?  The institution of marriage has not been sacred historically – it’s been a rubber stamp, which we don’t need anymore since we have lawyers and contracts and courts.  Our modern idea of marriage was considered a foolish notion, indulgence, or occurred without official sanction – people just lived together as man and wife.

So are we talking about protecting the 1950s idea of marriage?  The one where women had no real means, or power and stayed in abusive marriages because of lack of options, or had to marry because of the same? Is that what we’re protecting?

I know what marriage means to me.  I know how strongly I believe in it and how important I think it is.  But I also know that the institution of marriage is not a pure and innocent thing.  It has routinely been used without regard for the two individuals involved, so I’m not particularly adamant in protecting it either.  I’ve seen people enter into it casually and leave just as casually *Britney Spears 72 hours Vegas wedding, anyone?* and I’ve seen first hand people live together in love for decades without being ‘married.’

If we’re protecting the idea of what a love marriage means, well then I don’t think we should worry because as I said, love marriages have always been around and have survived despite humanity’s best efforts to use them as a tool.
So I repeat my question, what exactly are we talking about protecting?
And that’s not rhetorical.  I want to know.   I don’t mean to open up a controversial topic, I’m just inquisitive and curious, and I’d like to know what we’re talking about.  I want to define exactly what is being debated.

p.s. sorry about the blurry pics.  Yesterday was crazy and I had five minutes to grab a record of what I wore.

Silence Is Golden

Dress & Tights – F21; Sweater – made by my Babcia; Socks – Ruche; Boots – Threadsence.

I’ve had a crazy day!  I haven’t processed everything and it’s been just a lot of running around and dealing with things.  But I’m loving the moment of quiet right now.  The silence and stillness is so very comforting and soothing.  I’m basking in the lack of movement in the house.  It’s a glorious feeling.  Too often we’re so busy to get places and do things that we don’t really appreciate the power of silence.

I’m going to take a moment.  Join me.

Necessity Is The Mother Of Invention

Sweater – Gap; Dress – H&M; Belt – F21; Tights – Hue; Boots – Threadsence; Leg Warmers – Legs Beautiful.

I don’t have snow boots.  I should, I live in Canada after all where the snow falls and the temperature drops below what I consider human.  But I don’t.  And it’s not because I’m too cool for them or anything.  It’s because two winters ago mine died.  Then last winter I was pregnant and didn’t want to spend a ton of money when I wasn’t sure what my feet were doing *feet can change size during pregnancy* This winter…well let’s just say there’s been some belt tightening ’round these here parts.

So I made a thrown together, DIY pair.  What are snow boots?  Waterproof boots with a warm lining.  So I  took a  loose pair of boots that’s waterproof, put on warm legwarmers and shoved it all into said boots.  And voila!  Snow boots!  These will do until looser pants reign supreme.

p.s.  I’m writing over here today about the trials and tribulations of blog/website design.

Another Sneak Peek

Victoria Murdoch and Jessica Jean Myers

Here’s another sneak peek of the shoot I did.  And I figured since it was Vintage themed that I would put a vintage effect on this behind-the-scene shot.
