It is ABSOLUTELY your responsibility to provide your guests with more than water and somewhere to use the restroom. You are obliged as a host to provide some sort of snacks and libations. Whatever measure or capacity you have, when you invite persons into your home you are required to look after their care. And in our culture, that’s food or drink. If you can’t do this, don’t host.

This with the previous post are absolutely the social contract we all enter into as members of society. It may seem silly, but it is a mutual recognition that both hosting and being a guest have their own responsibilities and take effort – travel, clean up time, etc. It’s mutally appreciating that the other put some effort into this social function.

So just do it.
