The town of Bracebridge initially built up around these waterfalls.

They first served to power a sawmill in the late 1800s, and the hydroelectric generating station came in 1892. Two years later it was bought by the town and was the first station to be operated by a municipality. Another larger station was added in 1902 and still generates power today.

There’s a wonderful viewing platform that connects to a great walking path along the river. So enjoy a walk, and stop at the falls if you’re in the area.
