Star Wars Competition Sponsored by Disney and Mercedes-Benz

Star-Wars-Fashion-Event

World Mastercard Fashion week is always nuts. This time though I can’t go to any shows because of my schedule. The one thing I made time for was the Star Wars design competition sponsored by Disney Consumer Products and Mercedes-Benz Star Up Competition, because well, it’s Star Wars.  We all know what that means to this geek girl.

Inside were six creations all inspired by different characters or aspects of Star Wars.

We walked around, and viewed these creations from all angles while snacking on delicious food and drinking lovely bubbly.

After a little while, Roger Christian *the Academy Award winning set decorator and the man who came up with the lightsaber and R2D2!* came out and announced the winner.

Of course, I was very excited to see that the slave girl inspired outfit won. It was stunning!

Not only was I as an attendee treated so wonderfully inside at the event, hanging with Stormtroopers and what not, but there was also a nice Star Wars bag given out with lots of goodies inside. I’m excited to show you that Star Wars outfit.  Watch for it soon.

Thanks to Star Wars, Disney, Mercedes-Benz, and Sandra at Veritas for giving this Star Wars fan a fantastic experience.

You Say That Like It’s a Bad Thing

Many people, most really, when they first meet me are surprised to learn about the raging nerd I am.

Sci-fi anything and I love it *B5, BSG, Doctor Who, Firefly, Star Trek, Star Wars, etc. etc.*
Post-apocalyptic, and you’ve got me transfixed.
RPG table top games, and I’m running two Firefly seasons.
Board games, and I’m parked at a table.
There is little end to my geekdom.

Then someone looks at me and says, “Wow Jo, you’re such a nerd.”
And I think, “You say that like it’s a bad thing.”

I believe in heroes. I believe in strength and the will to succeed against dire odds. I believe we can all be more than we are. I believe that humanity has a hope and will get better. I believe that even in the worst situations our better parts will survive. I believe that there is magic in the universe. I believe that we will travel the stars. I believe. I hope. That’s sci-fi and that’s fantasy.

So ya, I’m a nerd.

Here’s To Our Friendship Flaws

Spell-Shorts-Arnhem-Kimono-Star-Wars-Tee-Boho-Style

I have very imperfect friends. Some overshare, some drink too much sometimes, some say stupid things at the most inopportune moments, some can be harsh …basically they make mistakes and have flaws, and are human.

All of them are well meaning, and caring, and accepting, and honest.

I can tolerate a lot as long those things are present. Tolerate isn’t the right word. A lot of things don’t bother me because of the presence of the others – that’s a better way to put it. In fact, I count on my friends being imperfect, because that means that they’ll hopefully be forgiving of my own imperfections. Of which I have many, and I try to surround myself with people who will forgive me when I say/do something stupid at the most inopportune of moments knowing that I probably don’t mean it, because I’d like to think I’m well meaning, caring, accepting, and honest.

You Can’t Take the Nerd Out: Star Wars Vans

Regardless of what may come. Regardless of shifts in my style. I have been and always shall be a nerd. *Anyone catch the Wrath of Khan reference?*

So when a good friend shared a picture of the Star Wars Vans his wife got him.  I immediately commented with, “WHERE?!?!!?”

They were on sale, and the next day I had called to have them set aside in my size, because there was no way I wasn’t getting a pair.  Now, I have A New Hope on my feet, and it makes my geeky little heart sing every time I look down at my feet.

Which I do a lot now, and I really wish they’d stop putting poles and people right in front of me suddenly.

You Can Take The Girl Out Of The Nerd…

…but you can’t take the nerd out of the girl.  Clearly, my nerd-dom still rides strong and free.  To be fair, no one has as of yet taken the girl out of the nerd either as I took these pictures on the way to my WoD role playing game meet up.  That’s like Dungeons & Dragons gaming but in a post apocalyptic world.  Yes, I am that big a geek.  This is all to say that you just gotta be proud of who you are.

Sharing a Room With a Jedi

Everyone needs a casual day.  Here’s mine.  Not only was I motivated by comfort, but also a cool dream where I was bunk mates with Luke Skywalker (the Mark Hamil “return of the Jedi” one).  It was total genre mixing, because we were fighter pilots on the Battlestar Galactica and bunking in those four to six person dorm style rooms, but he was clearly a Jedi master.   He had the top bunk, because clearly when you’re a Jedi master you can have any bunk you want.

A Tribal Cardigan and Star Wars Tank Will Not Win a Toddler Over

Even a cozy tribal, aztec cardigan *which my daughter likes to cuddle in* wasn’t enough when I came home.  She had been having fun all day, and when mommy came home she was having none of it.  She came up, and instead of the usual hug, I got a firm shove out the front door.

That did not feel good.

And then the following day she did not want me to leave.  Ugh, kid, can you make up your mind?  It’s really tough when you play roly poly with my emotions like this.

She’s lucky she’s cute.

And that I have a steady supply of wine and chocolate.
