On my bike that is. My bicycle is tuned up and on the road. I know, I know, some people continue riding all year ’round. I admire those people…..those crazy people. Me? I like to ride my bike when it’s warm – ride all around the city – but not when it’s cold. So there’s this moment in Spring that occurs when the days are reliably warm enough that me and my bike are traipsing about town getting errands done.
It’s also really cool to be able to do that first 30 km ride and be totally fine afterwards. Here’s to cycle season!
What do you think of when you hear ‘Serenity’? That soft sun ray breezing through the curtains first thing in the morning. The smell and feel of a great cuddle with your little one. That brief humid pause of the world before the rains begin to fall and the clouds break for a thunderstorm. That sip of tea before everyone else in the house is up and the bustle of the day begins. A still lake without a ripple seen – untouched and full of potential.
Or if you’re like me you think of Joss Whedon, Malcom Reynolds, River Tam, Zoe, and Wash.
“I am a leaf on the wind.”
You know when you’re driving and you pull up to a red light alongside other cars, and in the car beside you you see that person? There’s that person who is blasting music, bobbing their head, drumming their hands, and is clearly singing as loud as possible. Either unaware or not caring that people are watching them, they make faces, act out all the bits of the song, and wait with anticipation for the guitar or drum solo acting it out on their steering wheel.
That person is me.
Janis Joplin, Rolling Stones, ’70s hits, and Queen. Yup.
For the record, my driving is superbly precise – I just do it while having a one woman dance party.
I look at minimalist outfits a lot…wistfully so. Wishing that my closet consisted of clean black, white, grays – it seems like such an effortless chic sartorial existence. But then you know what? I am immediately drawn to color pattern, embroidery, fringe, and what could be called a sartorially bold choice for the everyday. This vest. Most people would not grab it for their everyday. I did. This vintage piece is now an essential, a must-have if you will *some of you will get that reference, others, will need to click on the link*
And when it comes down to it, it’s the perfect expression of my style.
That, and neutral sandals.
There’s this time where I was really concerned about whether what I was wearing was age appropriate.
But recently, I just don’t care. I am who I am and that’s just that. I’ve never been a booty short kind of girl, so there’s really no fear of my being that kind of woman. Otherwise, braided buns over 30 with boho dresses? Why the heck not? You just gotta be who you are you know?
Still desolate, still snowy ice caps, but it’s a beach. The wind was cold and howling but…. It’s a beach and it’s not covered with piles and piles of snow. It’s a beach. That in itself makes me very happy.
What’s making you happy today?
Cleaning up after dinner, I reached down and squeezed my little girl’s bum.
“Mama, why you do that?”
“‘Cause I like your bum. It’s beautiful.”
“No Mama, my bum’s not beautiful.”
“No?”
“No. ‘Cause bums are stinky and farty.”
“Okay, well I still think it’s beautiful.”
“Maaaama,” she says shaking her head.
Andrew and I went out on a date. Dinner, a little shopping, and a movie. Yup, this was my hot date night get-up. Just a little reminder of exactly who he’s with…sci-fi obsessed nerd girl.
Some ladies might put on a sexy red dress and heels, I put on my Star Wars shirt and beanie. Oh yeah, hawt.
*sarcasm fully intended*
Here’s a quick outfit from a couple of days ago, you know before it got too cold to breathe. It was a unicorn of a Winter day: I could wear bare legs. Crazy I know!
The day also made me realize that I miss wearing dresses. But frankly my dear, it’s too cold. Right now, I’m into the double pants, or thermal long underwear scene.
Or just bundling up in front of the space heater and never leaving the house.
