Comfort in a Dress

You know how I literally just finished telling you that wearing dresses is all about the comfort for me?

Hot Pink TIFF Party Dress

TIFF parties have been rampant, and I’ve gone to my fair share. Wish I could’ve shared all the outfits with you, but sometimes the day just got overwhelming.

Like this day. The day was packed, and my outfit choice for the evening had to be based on “What will still look good after being smushed in the bottom of a bag all day?” So that’s the big grandiose thought process behind this look.

I shot a conference all day, quickly changed in the bathroom, ran to a film premiere, then off I went to the party afterwards.  Thank goodness for the trunk of a car which held all my clothes as they came flying on and off.

True, I could’ve passed on something. But when given the choice of spending an evening with good friends or not, I will do everything I can to make it happen.

Despite the crazy day, I managed to grab these shots in the underground parking lot – after just having changed out of work wear.

Moral of the story? A great stretchy dress rolled up in the bottom of a bag still looks pretty okay for a party at night.

But Mostly, The Beach

The beach, a delicious dinner, a stroll along the marina, a show, and catching up with an old friend.

That was on the agenda. But mostly, the beach. And what a great agenda it was.  I find the times when I get to sit around with friends the best of times.
Always brings a smile to my face.

Chase You?

Lace-Bodycon-Dress-womens-fashion

Remember the chase?  That whole chase between men and women. The whole dance of he moves, and you either move with him or shut it down.  I like that chase.

I know it’s not cool to say, but I like being chased. I like being wooed. I like when a man pursues and a woman agrees.  Here’s the key of course, it’s a dance, that means two. That means in the chase, the woman consents and agrees to the chase. It’s mutual. Consent. So with that firmly stated….I like the chase.

I like it when a man reaches for you. I like it when he moves to close the distance. Perhaps because I’m so strong and in charge in my life, I like it when a man can reach the same pace as me. When he can be strong and in charge, and I can let go.

‘Course sometimes it’s fun to be in charge too. Don’t get me wrong.
Just saying, I appreciate the chase.

The Dress I Wore

Zara-Bodycon-dress-womens-fashion

On pins and needles, I know. You’ve been eagerly awaiting the follow up post to this one. Well, here’s the dress I did actually wear.  This one didn’t move anywhere on it’s own, it only moved with me.

That’s one of my requirements for a good dancing dress: that it doesn’t move of it’s own accord, so that I don’t have to spend the evening yanking and adjusting.

My other requirements:

1. Comfort. Stretchy or loose it has to be comfortable.
2. Breathable. Too much material and you heat up pretty fast. Then you’re a sweaty mess, and not in the good way.
3. Not too intricate.  To many holes, loops, or architectural details, and someone at some point in the even is going to get caught in it, and something’s going to tear.

And my last requirement: that it makes me smile.  That I look at it and something about it makes me energized and happy.  ‘Cause a sad dancing dress?  That would be baaaad.

Last week, our power went out for four days due to the ice storm that hit Toronto, and Southern Ontario.  Then, just as the power came back on, on Christmas Day, my baby girl came down with the stomach flu.  So while nursing her and throwing out all the food in our fridge, we wished ourselves a Merry Christmas.  Once she finally started getting better, I started vomiting with the same stomach flu, and spent a happy birthday on the couch or…well…doing that vomiting thing.  Of course, I had just stopped and was still really weak, when Andrew got it.  Which brings us up to now.

Hard to believe it was all just one week.

That’s the reason I’ve been absent here.  As reasons go, I think it’s pretty good.  I hope you all had a much better holiday than us.  And I wish us all a fabulous New Year!

Salut!
